  2. Photos of the maskless dinner showed the Democratic governor going against what he had been urging for months to combat the coronavirus: don’t gather in groups, keep your distance, wear a mask. That it was happening at the French Laundry — where the cheapest meal is $350 — fueled the idea Newsom was out of touch. The dinner turned up the heat on the fledgling recall, and the extra time allowed it to reach full boil. By March, organizers had more than the 1.5 million signatures they needed to force a vote on whether to remove the first-term Democratic governor in the nation's biggest blue state. “We had a perfect storm with the judge's ruling, with the French Laundry incident, with the greater environment of COVID and the economic disaster," said Mindy Romero, director of the Center for Inclusive Democracy at the University of Southern California. 3. Sure let me find the link and article, in the meantime here is something from the alternate reality right wing rural red state trash magazine (The New Yorker), implicating the same: The current attempt to recall Newsom began in late 2020. It was spearheaded by Orrin Heatlie, a retired sheriff’s sergeant from Yolo County. Heatlie’s disapproval of Newsom stemmed from a video he had seen, in 2019, of the Governor stating that undocumented immigrants had a right to bar authorities from their homes in the absence of a warrant. In February of this year, Heatlie filed a notice of intent to circulate a recall petition. “Governor Newsom has implemented laws which are detrimental to the citizens of this state and our way of life,” the letter read. “Laws he endorsed favor foreign nationals, in our country illegally, over that of our own citizens. People in this state suffer the highest taxes in the nation, the highest homelessness rates, and the lowest quality of life as a result.” The recall campaign attracted the attention of Californians who were upset about mask mandates and shutdowns, and felt that Newsom was mishandling the pandemic. Then Newsom was seen dining with lobbyists, indoors and maskless, at the French Laundry, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Napa. Meanwhile, California’s Employment Development Department, which had been inundated with unemployment applications, was found to have paid what experts estimate is upwards of thirty billion dollars in fraudulent claims; hundreds of thousands of jobless Californians were left in the lurch. The recall effort began to gain momentum. At first, the campaign found supporters in anti-vaccination protesters, QAnon adherents, and several far-right groups. The campaign has since been taken up by more mainstream Republicans and received significant contributions from several Silicon Valley venture capitalists. (One of them, Chamath Palihapitiya, briefly floated the idea of running for governor himself.) Tim Draper, a well-known venture capitalist who, in 2016, supported the “Six Californias” ballot initiative, which would have divided the state, and recently submitted a new initiative to abolish public-employee unions, is among Elder’s supporters.
  4. Maybe I read a too simplified and reductive article, but it was framed as a seminal, "tipping point" event type catalyst that got the funding and momentum 10x'ed whereas pre-French Laundry it was just Qanon in echo chambers mentally masturbating (like Texit).
  5. Dude this is crazy-- from what I read this could have all been avoided if he didn't make the massive political misstep of going to French Laundry. I read an interesting article that highlighted pre-French Laundry recall momentum and feelings (and donors/investments), of which there was little-to-none, and post-French Laundry which is where it took off. Crazy how certain events can be tipping points and don't think it's complete hyperbole that if not for Newsom's bad judgment on French Laundry, this would have never got any oxygen.
  6. I know a few "Bob's" who made a killing with Nutanix stock. Was hoping to reverse engineer that one lol
  7. Gross. Go be a pervert on a different thread. There is a “reach out to the other side of the aisle” thread for you and pervert DDDdad to ogle and objectify women. This thread should be about the politician and politics.
  8. Was on the HOA board from 2017 to two weeks ago. Never again.
  9. Strong Cruella-crashes-the-Barroness-Gala energy.
  10. I've already gotten multiple group texts with rich friends (note: I am not rich) this morning who are up in arms about this dress/event. Hilarious; AoC cannot make a misstep. She's trolling these people and they are incensed and frothing. Her instincts are amazing; she's a disruptor.
  11. I know you can’t wait. I hope it’s enjoyable for you. Peace and love.
  12. Yea I’m not mad at this or judging. Play on, playas.
  13. I like to see her unapologetically embracing life opportunities being a celebrity politician opens up for you.
  14. Got it, thanks. If I die because I gambled on love, it will be a worthy death.
  15. Lol a legend in your own mind, I love it.
  16. What’s your point though? What’s the implication you are trying to make?
  17. obviously an agnostic joke was obvious.
  18. The SEC is starting to get better at comedy and it's making Pac-10 football programs nervous!
  19. I don't disagree. Again, China is the chola that threw the beer can at the drunken NFL fans of opposing teams that started the brawl and slinks away to avoid the mess.
  20. That's the original reference, extrapolated to mean applications or even general business and culture. Consultant jargon out front shoulda told ya: https://www.oliverwyman.com/content/dam/oliver-wyman/global/en/2016/jan/A-new-paradigm-for-competition-clock-speed.pdf
  21. What world are you living in? Please go back and see my post about being lazy or naive. My opinion of course. As an interesting aside and tying back to your comment about lines of service and availability, did you know that McAllen and Laredo have the best/fastest 5G connectivity in Texas? Neither here nor there, just an interesting aside. And this little tidbit should hit @jimmyjazz and his ilk in the "I resemble that remark" feels: According to an April 2021 YouGov poll, one in five US adults (20%) have not heard of 5G coverage at all. Additionally, among those who have heard of 5G, 27% are unsure what it will be useful for, and 15% explicitly think it won’t be useful at all.
  22. Completely different events in their impact and the effects they elicited. The nuance would be in trying to reduce down to a common denominator in cause and to tie similarities and parallels together would be a stretch, was my point. I hope that helps clear it up, but I'll try and answer any questions you might have.
  23. So we agree more than we disagree. At least at the thesis level.
