  1. Seems a shame UCONN can beat Butler and Georgetown by 1 run and not falter. That’s worse than losing to KU and their pitcher.
  2. Hookem is the RPI calculator man. But I’m still betting on 1 BIG 12 host. Of course, if the 3 contenders all go 0-2, that’s a different story. There are still lots of losses to rack up this week for many teams in and out of the Big 12.
  3. I must be old. I’m fascinated by the changing of teams RPIs. The SEC and ACC are so insulated it’s kinda amazing. People talk about Texas road record. Kentucky is .500 on the road. No impressive road wins out of conference and the best being midweek games. And they’re barely above .500 in conference. It seems the morale of the story is just don’t play the 100 worst teams. Ever.
  4. TCU. Too bad they can’t. But their RPI can pull into the 20s.
  5. Player of the game for Texas. Yeah.
  6. We just wanted to challenge ECU for the worst loss in conference tourneys.
  7. And we get to avoid TCU tomorrow. They’re playing pretty well. Maybe.
  8. At least we’ve only used 2 pitchers.
  9. Well there you go. It’s all or nothing time for KU.
  10. Perhaps. KU can hit a little too. I bet he goes as long as he can. No pitch count.
  11. Belyeu. Interesting. Not too surprising I guess.
  12. Looks like the AAC tourney is double elimination thru the semi-finals. USF was #175 in RPI. ECU dropped from 24 to 28 in the RPI. This should be a heavy hit to their hosting prospects. Their only shot is probably to win their tourney and hope for others to falter. That’s probably about as bad a loss as you’ll get in the tourneys.
  13. If Tennessee loses, that ought to remove them from consideration as a host site.
  14. Nice efforts to get ACC and SEC through. West Virginia of all teams out to Stanford as the #2. The Big 12 gets good representation but not many great seeds/draws.
  15. I think the play that broke GG was a 4th and 2 from the UCLA 40. He went to the 4th option. To Greg Smith for No yards. Brilliantly drawn up.
  16. That’s wasting LBJ. It doesn’t have to be Witt either. Remember when we had a 15 game win streak and most of them weren’t close? That’s the competition at #4. And we had many pitchers do just fine in those games. From the bullpen’s perspective, if Gordon and LBJ get 6 or 7 in the next two games, then you’ve got guys fresh again for a 4th game if necessary. This week will be interesting to see how DP plays it with his starting selections. If he feels he needs to win it, then he needs 4 wins, right? Kansas is the most winnable game. It might be a slight indicator of how DP handles a regional as a #1.
  17. This is the right line of thinking. If you get a truly scrub #4 seed, you don’t go your #1 or #2 unless your 3rd option is horrible. And in this scenario, our bullpen by committee can work. You still have to win 3 games at a minimum. You are no worse off losing game 1 versus game 2. Plus Gordon and LBJ are very different pitchers. Last year AF had Skenes and beat us soundly during the year. They could score.
  18. The RPI is interesting. Indiana St is 6-11 versus Power 5 + Northeastern. Swept by Kentucky (also getting a boost from playing mighty Indiana State) and Northeastern. Their other games are against Big 10 (5-4) and a win over Vandy. RPI #10. Pitt is sitting at #74 at 7 games under .500. They lost 3 to WVU getting outscored 28-12. They lost 2 of 3 to Maine with the win being by 1. Looks like they split with Penn St, Youngstown St and Kent St (who’s 47th in RPI). Speaking of Kent St, they played 14 teams (not games, teams) with losing records. They only played 3 teams 10 games above .500. One of those was #58 Wofford, which was 12-9 in the Southern conference and swept in 3. By Mercer. Kentucky has the #1 non-con RPI. 3 games versus Indiana and Louisville. Then it’s Elon, Western Kentucky and Xavier. Obviously winning them all is big, but that’s not markedly different than our early season run. There’s tons of volatility in scores these days. I don’t fully get the RPI other than it’s centered around wins and losses, which results in some circle jerking. Tuesday games introduce more volatility too since few teams have a legitimate 4th guy. Throw in some run differential and drop the lowest 2-3 teams from each team’s schedule on the RPI, and it’s more meaningful.
  19. I got you. But I do enjoy discussing the possibilities until they’re no longer possibilities.
  20. How about a roll call for all the punkasses that said the conference run was over? This is an entertaining team.
  21. Is it ok to talk sweep now StassneyHorn?
  22. So without the 75 foot ground ball followed up with a shitty high throw to 2nd they get 1.
