  1. I think this is pretty close. The top 3 are all great and you can shuffle them around.
  2. There are many extremely influential people in the admin who are legitimately pro-Russian and who want to see them win and the United States governed like Russia is now. There are only a few who are even close to pro-Ukraine. Honestly it’s really only Trump’s vanity that has prevented a total capitulation on this; Putin has played things pretty badly. But it’s going to keep inching in Russia’s favor. Ukraine represents a threat to the MAGA ideologue’s worldview as a nation that democratically wishes to be governed normally and to embed in Western institutions.
  3. I’m trying to think of the old Dem aesthetic. Kennedy cool and modern was for sure a thing, different a bit, and really tasteful. Think the AF1 livery. Clinton’s White House to me looked like a well-done tv set at the time. Of the moment, not ostentatious.
  4. One of the genuinely good things about the old GOP WASP era was the aesthetics, tracing a direct line back to old Yankees’ Protestant aversion to showy displays of wealth. Like driving an old Volvo. A confident and wealthy America secure enough not to rub your nose in it.

This is today’s entry in the “cruelty is the point.” No matter your thoughts on the policy, all these people gave over a decade of their lives to the country under the rules that were in place. Shit like this reveals that none of this is about principals or beliefs. It’s about harming people their constituents don’t like for cheap points.
  6. American Lysenkoism. A drug-addled, worm-brain making decisions about science funding based on pure smooth-brained ideology.
  7. Was coming here to post this. Thus far its only the Congress website. Leaves out stuff about habeas corpus, bills of attainder, and the prohibition on states coining money.
  8. DC has a huge problem with youths starting shit all over town and the city refuses to do a damn thing about it. Most of the problem is that they are where they shouldn’t be, when they shouldn’t be there. - Turn off their Kids Ride Free cards at 6 PM - Brick the scooters and e-bikes at 10 pm - Ruthless curfew enforcement and onerous fines for parents for curfew violations
  9. I see that the gambit to blame NPR for the MIC failed so we pivoted to the cruder but more broadly effective strategy of complaining about immigrants while gesturing.
  10. Africa Corps has some advisors in DRC but has not really been involved in stirring the pot either way. They could see an opening to offer security assistance in exchange for mineral access but the other players— Uganda, Rwanda— make this more complicated. Russia wants to profit in Africa and have influence and pose as an alternative to meddling Western powers. They see openings to help authoritarians crack down on insurgents or dissidents and to force Westerners out. Less interested in refereeing or getting involved in potential inter-state quarrels.
  11. I think that when the “facts of life, can’t change them” line gets trotted out over and over again, someone like Trump who demonstrates that they CAN change had a lot of appeal to those who feel without agency or influence. And I think it’s a blind spot of process and norm loving shitlibs like me that we are unwilling to recognize when those “unchangeable” facts have built up to the point that inside-the-lines civic participation begins to feel pointless.
  12. Then the system is ultimately fucked. I’m sorry, it’s farcical to allow a presidential candidate to run the clock out and never go to trial and then grab immunity. Justice delayed is justice denied works both ways.
  13. Is this the 90 percent spot on or the 10 percent insane? Having trouble getting fidelity on which is which.
  14. Elon Musk is the Most Divorced man alive.
  15. One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing even Texans who aren’t rodeo cowboys wear these big silver buckles and its even worse when you’re a drunk Fox News preppy.
  16. Trump is not following through on loving Russia enough so that wing of the party is getting antsy. No coincidence that Dugin sent out the points.
  17. Visionary genius here posting AI boobs.
  18. More evidence of meme stock status: Translation: “Our car company is not doing so well as a car company anymore, especially since Elon helped elect the person who killed our sweet federal dollars. We need Elon as an edgelord tech guru to fleece rubes on something that isn’t making money and we aren’t really good at either.”
  19. This is a tacit admission that Tesla is really a meme stock that depends on Elon’s manic presence not to crater. He basically blackmailed the board and leaned on friends by threatening to go away.
  20. Denver steaks, mushroom-Parmesan sauce.
  21. Ah yes. NPR, which along with the Pentagon and defense contractors is famously the third pillar of the MIC. At least this will stop the revolving door of two and three stars to the Tiny Desk.
  22. Wrong, its because the Deep State Woke BLS tweaks the numbers to undermine Trump. We got that fixed now though.
  23. This is a good thread on avoiding the “waste, fraud, and abuse” trapdoor. This rhetoric mostly is pumped actively by the GOP but Dems don’t push back, because who can be “for” eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse” The problem is that in a generally functioning first world state, it’s small potatoes. You end up either cutting core functions or not saving money and often both. The place to focus is on the appropriations side, and that’s the side no incumbent wants to touch.
  24. Fuck, things have gotten bad. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/republicans-push-bills-stop-government-weather-modification-chemtrails-rcna220045
