  1. Posted on the gift wrapping thread, not sorry for repeating since I am still ragey.

Leaving Target now because my kids’ (under ten) gifts got stolen off the front porch at my parents’ place.  The adult gifts made it (we are visiting from overseas). Dad said he got the packages, should have counted I guess.  Went to wrap and no Christmas presents for the children.

    Fuck thieves.

  2. It’s Christmas Eve and where am I? At Target.

WTF am I doing here like some dipshit who didn’t prepare? Glad you asked.

We traveled home from overseas for Christmas and instead of packing presents, we just did Amazon and had them shipped to the parents.  Dad said they got several packages, they are stashed in the guest room, no worries.

Time to wrap and drink and what do I find? My adult family members’ shit got here. What’s not here? Gifts for the two kids (under 10). Looking at Amazon and the packages were left on the porch on days my mom is out of the house, it’s clear that they were lifted.

I am not in favor of the death penalty but actually, I am and I’d happily deliver a bullet to the head of thieves that steal packages at Christmas time.

90% of what is posted here is troll posts of shit posts or pretty basically personal attacks that none of the pussies that post on here would ever say in real life.
mid an idea is worth talking about I talk about it. I think that the Logan act is antiquated and stupid. It’s being flouted right now by Joe Biden. There is no constitutional office of “president elect” and he’s a private citizen.
it’s also the same thing every presidential elect has done in my lifetime (and probably forever), it makes sense foR Biden to talk to other heads of state, and it’s good policy.
the Logan act is stupid. The fact that anyone ever threatened Flynn with it is stupid. The idea that anyone who will be part of a new administration could ever violate it is stupid. That’s what I was talking about because that’s what I wanted to talk about.
It’s  not a “both sides” argument it’s a “this law over here is stupid” argument.

In all seriousness, I think that a lot hinges on what a “dispute or controversy” is. Merely talking with any foreign leader about policy is not a violation.

Textually, there’s a lot of leeway but talking with Russia about sanctions and reciprocal diplomatic mission closures is very different from “when I become President, let’s focus first on migration and trade” with the leader of a friendly nation that is also dealing with the same issues vis a vis Central American migration.

Now if Biden was talking to the mullahs in Iran and telling them to just hang on a few more weeks, I think you’d have a stronger case for equivalency.

I get that.  It it also seems like the state is implicitly admitting it’s a money grab on their part.

I don’t see it that way at all, if it were really just a money grab they wouldn’t be trying to deter it.

Just the same as the “click it or ticket” campaign, stupid people are more likely to try and avoid a fine than save their own damn lives.

That’s why I started with the first thing as saying it allows for racial discrimination. Any cop that wants to follow someone for a minute bc he thinks they look sketchy has a whole host of tools at their disposal to pull people over with. It’s wrong. And insidious.
I don’t understand exactly what you mean about Jose and dwi- (was he drunk or not?) in your example, but it’s always been troubling to me that the posters and commercials for dwi stress “you can’t afford it” not, you are a danger to yourself and society.

Those posters are probably more effective as a deterrent. We discount the likelihood of the consequences of our own actions and overestimate our abilities (other assholes can’t drive drunk, I just had a few beers and am fine).

”If you drive drunk the man will go in dry on your ass” is a different message entirely. It’s telling you to not give other people the chance to mess with you.

  6. Charles Kushner is a garbage person, just a reminder. He hired a prostitute to seduce his brother’s wife and gave a sex tape to his own sister during his nephew’s engagement party. That’s in addition to witness tampering and tax evasion.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t say “the crimes of the father....” But Jared Kushner is a garbage person, too. By all accounts he engaged in a revenge campaign against the U.S. attorney for doing his job and prosecuting crimes.  He could, you know, be a man and say “he’s my dad and I love him, but he did something wrong and has to accept that responsibility.”

But he’s a simpering, smug, coddled pissant in a skinny suit and not a man. I like to imagine the future as a boot, stamping on Jared Kushner’s face, forever.

It is all bullshit. The COVID relief package was passed together with an omnibus spending bill to fund the government. They are two separate things and shouldn’t be conflated. Surprise surprise, there’s foreign aid and assistance funding in an omnibus spending bill.

It’s much better policy to just fund the government via continuing resolutions indefinitely, I guess.

I read this whole thing (exactly what investigative journalism should be). It all makes you ragey but this:

The arbitrator notes, however, “No evidence of prior disciplinary action or corrective action appears on the grievant’s record.” In fact, this is the only case of discipline against Warnberg in his more than three decades on the Minneapolis police force, although he was convicted in Wisconsin of sexually assaulting a private at a National Guard training in 1992 while he was a captain. He was reinstated to the police force.

Even 30 years ago....who says “A history of sexually assaulting subordinates in uniform? I think you’ve got a bright future on this force.”

I had a conversation with a friend last night who is a low-information voter.  I was explaining how Facebook and social media in general works, a la, The Social Dilemma.  She basically tried to bury her head in the sand and didn't want to think about the implications.  I fear there are a lot of people out there like her that when are confronted with uncomfortable and/or serious life scenarios (politics, social media, finances, whatever) would rather just pretend these problems don't exist.  This is a big part of why we are where we are, imo.

Not sure where I was going with this, other than, god dammit people, pay attention and help us fight this goddamn fight instead of pretending it's not happening.

I guess that’s one thing you can do with girls who have teh dumbz.

Just here to note that the Mustang Bowl is the coolest damn stadium in all of Texas high school football.

Why do you diss The Puncherdome like this?

But yeah, it's cool. I forced the family to take a detour through town to see it last time we drove to Denver.

Puncher dome is also great.  But for my money it’s the Mustang Bowl and Alamo Stadium as 1a and 1b. Not coincidentally, two WPA projects.  Time is ripe in America for something similar/nocloakroom.

  12. These are mangalitsa pork chops. I took the photo at the grocery store in Slovakia, where I used to live.

The mangalitsa pig is a curly haired breed that most people link to Hungary, but there is a small herd in Slovakia as well thanks to the strong historical links between the countries. I won’t go into the history here but let’s say it’s not quite an Iberian hog raised on acorns, it’s damn close. You can see from the marbling and color, this is a heritage breed bred mostly to turn into the best bacon and sausage you’ve had in your life.

Fresh mangalitsa is a bit of a luxury product but it’s not obscenely priced and is relatively available. The way I like cook this is to simply grill it or pan-sear and serve with a big pad of homemade garlic and chive compound butter. Because it’s got plenty of marbling it can stand up to a longer cooking time and temperature, with super lean American pork I don’t go beyond medium.

This is the platonic ideal of a pork chop. If you ever see it in a specialty store or on the menu, don’t hesitate.

  13. This is as good as Auburn was gonna do. I’m quite surprised that Harsin took the job, Boise is not at all a bad place to wait for a really great job to open.  If the money is guaranteed, though, he can put in four years and then quit work and leave his grandkids set for life.

  14. Nothing says drain the swamp like pardons for career politicians that siphon off campaign funds for titty bars and for healthcare moguls that stole a billion taxpayer dollars.

The minor drug offender pardons are legit and need to happen. Perfect example of the poison pill this man makes us take every time he does anything.

  15. Our Republican run state is awful but honestly— show me a significant state or community that does CPS/foster care correctly. It is always criminally underfunded and it is always a laboratory for the worst kind of social experimentation— the kind on people who can’t say no and who can’t even really advocate for and explain what’s wrong.

This is just who we are, not as a country but as people. In pretty much every society, children hold the shit end of the stick.
