  1. This is as good as Auburn was gonna do. I’m quite surprised that Harsin took the job, Boise is not at all a bad place to wait for a really great job to open.  If the money is guaranteed, though, he can put in four years and then quit work and leave his grandkids set for life.

  2. Nothing says drain the swamp like pardons for career politicians that siphon off campaign funds for titty bars and for healthcare moguls that stole a billion taxpayer dollars.

The minor drug offender pardons are legit and need to happen. Perfect example of the poison pill this man makes us take every time he does anything.

  3. Our Republican run state is awful but honestly— show me a significant state or community that does CPS/foster care correctly. It is always criminally underfunded and it is always a laboratory for the worst kind of social experimentation— the kind on people who can’t say no and who can’t even really advocate for and explain what’s wrong.

This is just who we are, not as a country but as people. In pretty much every society, children hold the shit end of the stick.

  4. Probably not unpopular here but it is controversial with Yankees and other morons.

A flour tortilla is the better choice for some dishes. It’s also authentic as all hell.  The Spaniards brought wheat to the New World 500 years ago and people have been making flour tortillas in Northern Mexico and South Texas ever since.

If you’re gonna tell me a flour tortilla is inauthentic, then you better not serve me a marinara sauce either.

I'd be curious to hear a candid analysis of why Trump thinks 230 should be repealed.  Sure it would kill those Twitter meanies that don't let him lie without reperucssions.  It would also kill parler, and facebook. and many of the very things that are responsible for his ascendance.

Why Trump wants it repealed? He wants it repealed because he is angry at Facebook and Twitter and someone told him that repealing 230 would make life difficult for Dorsey and Zuckerberg. It’s really that simple and he doesn’t have any deeper or thoughtful analysis. It’s always a mistake to ascribe more thought him that what’s on the surface.

  6. I love everything about this story and can think of no better karmic justice for Shrekli than to have this gal and her obsession problem.  This long story is worth the read.

    Quote

Smythe has only one photo of the two of them, propped next to her bed. Shkreli, his arm around Smythe, has a wide-open smile. “Doesn’t he look human there?” Smythe says, laughing. Cushenberry made a blanket for Smythe with the photo on it, with a caption that reads, “All my better days are the ones spent with you.” I tell Smythe I’ll need to ask Shkreli for comment. “Maybe this will be a reason for him to reach out to me,” she says. Later, when I relay Shkreli’s statement—“Mr. Shkreli wishes Ms. Smythe the best of luck in her future endeavors”—to Smythe via video chat, she says, “That’s sweet,” quietly, not convincingly.

I can’t gauge Shkreli’s motive, and ask Smythe what she thinks. “That’s him saying, You’re going to live your life and we’re just gonna not be together. That I’m going to maybe get my book and that our paths will”—she sighs—“will fork.” She tears up, and I think about what her journalism professor said, about everyone having an agenda. Watching Smythe, I finally realize her motive for telling her story. She wants Shkreli, and hopes putting their love on the record might at last give her some power in the relationship. “He bounces between this delight in having a future life together and this fatalism about how it will never work,” Smythe says. “It’s definitely in the latter category now.” Sitting in her basement apartment, her eyes wet, her voice quavering, she says she will continue to wait for him while he serves the remaining years of his sentence: “I’m gonna try,” she says. “I’ll be here.”

I don’t think fried turkey is any better than a well
Cooked oven turkey. I don’t understand how people go all orgasmic over a fried turkey.

A quality chicken (roasted, fried, bbq) is superior in every way to turkey as a table bird. If you have a big crew it’s understandable to want one big bird to feed everyone.  Four people or fewer, a chicken and all the traditional sides is better, less hassle, less clean up.

Or cook a pork or beef roast if you really want something to eat on for days.

Maybe I'm just old, but I call them "Intercontinental" and "National."

I don't think anybody in DC calls it "Reagan."

There's a lot to be said for that.

It's also already a very appropriate code for that city.  Gawd almighty, those people.

DC locals mostly call it National or DCA. I don’t think I’ve ever called Houston anything but Intercontinental in my life, not out of principle or anything though. I like Poppy.

How does one feel when doing this as a grown adult in a store. Is there any reflection going on at all? Is there any moment when you ask “why am I laying on the filthy floor of a big box store with everyone staring at me and a security guard asking me to leave?”

  10. Call people out on that shit. Politely so it leaves them a graceful exit, framed in a way that makes it seem you’re confident they will do the right thing.

”Hey sir, I think you forgot to throw that away.”

”Ma’am, did you notice this is an express checkout.”

Not worth escalating beyond that for sure, but it is worth making an asshole come to grips with who they are if even for a moment.

The SEC always gets ”extra” because the media kisses their ass.

ACC had 15 teams. 7 finished with winning records 2 were .500 and the rest had losing records

Big 10 14 teams. 4 had winning records. 1 was .500 and the rest were below .500. Media loves OSU, PSU and Wisconsin.  If a Big 10 team is undefeated, they will always be in the playoff

Pac-12 only played 6 games 6 had winning records.  1 was .500 and the rest had losing records

SEC had 14 teams play. 5 had winning records. 2 were .500. The rest had losing records.

Big 12 has 10 teams. 6 finished with winning records. 4 losing records.

The SEC didn't deserve 2 teams in the playoff.

Comparisons to the ACC and Big 12 are useless this season, because they had OOC games, the B1G, PAC-12, and SEC did not. Maybe that was a shitty decision, but it’s what happened. Their games are going to come out to .500.

You’re basically saying that the SEC lost half its games against itself and therefore it sucked. I’m telling you that’s how math works. Especially— take note— if you have an undefeated team in the mix.  There aren’t ways to get more than half the rest of the teams above .500 if that happens.

Best part is watching all the aggys who commented when we were hosed in 2008 have to eat it.  They all said we should have been leaped over because we lost to TT.  Well, they lost to Alabama and not on a dropped interception or a last second fluke TD.  They were blown out. The facts remain:

The SEC was a shit show this year.  Half the teams finished .500 or worse.  Aggy beat 5 teams that had 3 wins or less.  They only beat one team that was ranked.  All their Dumpster fore bullshit was a perfect description of the best grinder that usually is the SEC.  This was their shot and they missed.

They lose 6 starters on offense.  3 are OL.  They also lose a 4 year starter at QB.  LSU will be better next year and they play in BR.  They also lose 6 on defense.

Today has made me a smile at their misery and that their unbridled hate for Texas came back to haunt them.

Not arguing about the committees decision, but “the SEC sucked, half it’s teams finished at .500 or below” is a really bad argument. That’s also true of:

    Big 10

    ACC
    Pac-12

Thats how the math is going to work out when you have conference only schedules.

  13. 5A (when it was the big schools) pioneered the division split and for many years 5A-D1 had a smaller pool.  Three teams from each district went to the playoffs, the bottom two went to DII. DI played one less game in the playoffs. It wasn’t perfect but it worked.

Still think there should be an attendance cap or just force high schools that get too huge to field two varsity teams of equal size with the rosters split by last four digits of SSN.

  14. FFS, every member of Congress is getting the vaccine because they are mostly a bunch of olds and it could seriously impact government operations and security if there was a big breakout. Not because they are influencers.

Kudos to any politicos who publicly get the shot and try to turn down the volume of stupid in this country and set an example, regardless of which side of the aisle they are in.

  15. At home in the RGV, luckily the family are not Trumpsters, but we hit our favorite Mexican joint after church and a Trumper family strolled in.  What kind of dipshit wears a camo Trump hat to a Mexican restaurant in the RGV (and doesn’t take it off at the table, animal). Dickhead was pretty short with the waitress, too. He should be condemned to eat well done steak with ketchup for life, no chips and salsa for you.

I view wearing Trump gear in public as an announcement that you are a cowardly asshole who is too chickenshit to just be a real asshole in public so you passive aggressively speak through Trump. Voting for Trump is basically just vicarious assholery.
