  1. The biggest tipoff that it's a lie is when he talks about actually paying attention during corporate IT security awareness training.

Is this a problem unique to the US? Our players can't respect an MLS coach, but every other nation can respect a coach that likely came from their national league and has zero experience coaching players of their level? Scaloni had no head coaching experience before taking over Argentina. Tite only coached in Brazil. If you look around at all of the World Cup teams, most of them have coaches that you would likely not consider "a real manager". Guys like van Gaal, Deschamps, and Luis Enrique who have experience at multiple big clubs is not the norm because a national team coaching gig just isn't the goal for a soccer coach.

Gio himself didn't do anything. If they already worked through all his bullshit in camp and are fine with it, it's pretty likely he can work through this. Claudio is going to have some problems though.

Dike was called in to friendlies and the 2021 gold cup when he was healthy. He hurt his shoulder during that gold cup. He could have been brought back in to the end of 2021 qualifiers after having not played that many MLS games since coming back from injury but it's not like he was core to the team at that point. Then he missed basically all of 2022. The whole "why wasn't this guy called in, he would have saved us!" that has happened in a lot of places after any player who wasn't on the roster scores a club goal (even in a friendly) is fucking stupid. And it's even dumber when the player wouldn't have even been available. It's like people don't actually watch the team or follow the players and just come here to bitch about things.

There was literally not a time when Dike was playing in 2022 to be called in. He played 80 minutes over two games in January, got hurt, didn't play again until he got 12 minutes in July, got hurt, played half of a u21 game in November and then one single minute in the championship before the World Cup. Please complain about him not getting called in.

Have to be healthy to make the roster and he wasn't healthy so...

The Netherlands were the better team and won the game by finishing their chances but outclassed isn’t the right word to describe what happened.

It blows my mind that people out there really think the US looked bad against the Netherlands.

Isn't that Berhalter's whole statement though? There was a problem with Gio. They addressed the problem. Gio apologized. Everyone moved on. All is well. No reason to be disgusted with either of them for what occurred. It's like the situation with Weston last year. Then this leaks to reporters after the fact, Berhalter's supposedly off the record statement is also released, and everyone makes a big deal out of it. I'm not sure why anyone cares other than to use it to reinforce whatever narrative they'd already bought into.

Is there a point in firing someone whose contract ends at the end of the World Cup?

Klinsmann is the worst coach we’ve had in the last 20 years. We should stop talking about him. Berhalter is perfectly fine as a coach and I wouldn’t mind giving him a short extension while we do a coaching search, but the national team job should be a 4 year gig. We need new ideas. Infinitely more important than the coach is having the talent keep developing. The growth of MLS academies has been huge there. We really need a two deep roster on the level of our current top 8-10 players if we want to make a deep run in 2026. Anyone who thinks this World Cup was a failure is a dumbass. We were in a group with two teams around our level we were slight favorites over and one team better. We advanced and were arguably the best team in each game. Then we played another better team and lost, but if you think we looked like we didn’t belong on the field, I’m not sure what game people were watching. We’re just not good quite enough yet.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable explanation that also doesn't really address the problem. When Zimmerman and Moore subbed on against Iran, putting in Reyna would have been the wrong choice and not at all fit the game situation. If they were being cautious with Reyna having some tightness earlier in the week, not putting in Reyna for the last 5 minutes again Wales also makes sense. Reyna played against England but didn't come on until the 83rd minute. The real problem being that the subs took too long against both Wales and England. For Iran, subbing Reyna on instead of Acosta to replace Weston (and shifting Aaronson into Weston's spot) would have likely been better.
  13. Way too many people who thought we had zero chance of getting a point against England are now pissed when we did get a point and look essentially their equal.

Weah at the 9 is the new "thing" that apparently is making the rounds. It doesn't make any sense. He's never been very good as a solo forward and is the perfect right wing for this team. His role should be exactly what it was against Wales, we should just actually get him the ball more when he has space. It's not reasonable to think we're going to completely overhaul the way we play with putting Weah at the 9. Maybe if we went to a two forward system, but again, we're not about to change that much about the way we play. The lineup against England should be the same as the lineup against Wales but with Aaronson over Weston. Reyna is the planned 60 minute sub in for Weah and Weston likely comes in at the same time if it seems like either Aaronson or Pulisic need to come out (or maybe for Musah if he's fading and we feel we need to go all out for offense but an Aaronson/Weston pairing ahead of Adams is asking so much of Adams). If we're panicking and throwing experimental shit at the wall, Reyna as a false 9 with Weah in his normal spot on the wing is way more appealing to me that Weah at the 9. Honestly, give me Weston as a 9 over Weah for this team.
  15. Dest? Weah? I'm fine with Pulisic taking free kicks but I'd rather our most dangerous player but in and around the box on corners.
  16. Wales could absolutely lose to Iran. And so could we.
  17. It really makes zero sense for Pulisic to take corners.
  18. I wish we hadn't completely ignored Weah on the right basically the whole 2nd half. It felt like every time we had a decent break, he had tons of space there and never saw the ball. Also shocked that Reyna didn't come in at the same time as Aaronson.

Aaronson being listed with the midfielders is interesting. I think we see him get a start over Weston at some point. I would have taken Pepi over Haji and Arriola over Morris. No Steffen is a shocker but completely comfortable with Turner starting and either of the other guys playing if it comes to that. The biggest worry to me with the roster is what happens if Musah can't play every minute? Acosta can be fine backing up Adams but needs to play out of his mind to do anything other than kill off a game as an 8 and Weston/Aaronson are great but I don't think pairing the two together would work at all. And Luca isn't playing and has looked bad lately and Roldan is Roldan.

FIFA rules require you bring 3 GK. The US is also not super fucked if the 3rd GK has to play. The difference between Turner/Steffen and Johnson/Horvath isn't a situation where you might as well just not play the game if you have to go to 3rd or 4th string GK.

Is making the MLS best 11 for the season generally considered to be a mediocre year?
  23. It's Gandalf. They aren't directly quoting Gandalf to have it be a blue wizard no one knows anything about. This video even starts with "I do believe there is a very good chance he could be Gandalf". This is a content creator making a video about something he hopes is true that he knows isn't going to be true.
  24. 4, 5, 6, and probably 3 are things that you'll probably just have to keep watching the show to find out more about. But I agree that if you're going to type out that list and nitpick everything in the show, you should just stop watching. You're not going to enjoy it because it's not going to perfectly match the lore. My main complaint about the show is that they really made Middle Earth seem small. The one time they did this well was the Harfoot travel scene with the song and map. Other than that, people are just wherever is convenient whenever it's convenient. It was also weird that the Southlands village was like 50 people, half left and there were now only 50 people, almost all of them die in a battle cutting them down to 50 people, and then they get volcano'd reducing their number to 50 people. Like I'm sure there was covid stuff that made filming weird, but they did a bad job showing the scale of things. But overall I really enjoyed things and can't wait for the next season.
