Except that in Back to the Future, Marty's interaction with his parents sets off a change reaction of unintended consequences and Marty's "fixing" this issue changes the future versions of his parents. We see that played out for us through the progression of the movie. If things don't get fixed with the parents there is no Marty and with no Marty what becomes of Doc Brown.
Since the couple separated and then reconciled they really haven't been much in the series other than props to advance stories and Space Beth has replaced Earth Beth as a worth companion to Rick.
The Beth and Jerry episodes pretty much gave us episodes the focused upon them and in the case of Beth really didn't do anything other than reinforce what we already knew about her. With Jerry, I think they missed the opportunity to have Jerry truly address the one person who has continually gotten in Jerry's way, himself.
Rick is no longer fighting the Galactic Empire, we haven't seen him searching anymore for the Rick that killed his wife, we haven't seen Evil Morty, and what might have been the best episode of the season touched on the aftermath of the destruction of the Citadel of Ricks.
I am not sure where the writers are taking this show, but it really has fizzled out.
