Pretty much why the right wins everything. They don't worry about right or wrong, they don't worry about feelings, they don't worry about hypocrisy. They defend themselves and attack the opposition without fear. They relentlessly defend and attack until the other side gives up. And then they attack some more. They have been fortunate that they have such a shitty opponent.

Even with this, progressives have been supporting Wolf for a day very strongly. But then the WHCA comes in and cuts them off at their legs. And now the WHCA is going to do everything Trump wants to save face.

    Yep.

And this is one of the reasons I am not a fan of the "new normal."

Before, we had boxing.  Sure, there were cheap shots that the ref didn't catch, but there were norms.

Now -- and the analogy is not just an analogy, it's actually who we elected, and the crowd that elected him -- it's late-night wrasslin' with folks smashing chairs over each other's heads.  And that's the way it's gonna be.  If you wanna win, you best pick up a folding chair AND play to the ignoramus audience to get them on your side.

    We are the USWWE now.

For some normal cheap ass stuff:

I use cash to make myself save money by not swiping a card. When I "eat out" I tend to keep it around $2. Save the change, roll it up, and take it to the grocery store for 12 packs of cheap beer. Pennies go into the coin star. But to hell with losing 11% of my dimes and quarters, those I roll.

Broke my "real" phone, and replaced it with a $20 Go phone. Years ago.

Been driving the same jeepish little car for 18 years. I lavish money on the mechanics so I can save triple that in car payments. The fabric top is missing the sides. Would cost about $400 to replace. In winter, I wear extra clothes and imagine that I just earned 400 bucks. For about ten winters so far.

Fixed up an old bike I bought in the 90s. It works great. Thought I'd have to replace the 10-year-old inner tubes. So far, no.

    I like this RD fella.

He and my old coathanger "radio antenna" woulda gotten along just fine.

Read The Catcher in the Rye again and tell me if you don't think Holden Caulfield is a whiny little bitch.

I used to read that book every couple of years and one time the switch just flipped and I went from "Yeah!  You tell 'em Holdy!" to "STFU you punk ass kid."

    Also, get off my grass.

I have always wanted to punch Holden in the f'n face.

One of my best friends in college -- also happens to be a knockout blonde -- was (and remains) a huge literature fan.  She actually runs an English department nowadays.  but our freshman year, we had an honors English class together where we read Catcher in the Rye.  And the first day of class discussion turned into just the two of us arguing with each other about Holden.  We left class and went to Quacks, and kept arguing for hours.  Every positive point she made about him, I argued was evidence that he was a whiny bitch who needed to be punched in the face.

Yes, there was real tension between us.

No, I never closed the deal, because freshman brisket was a pussy, and stuck himself firmly in the friend zone.

Thanks for opening up that old wound you sonofabitch.

  4. You ain't livin' till you've stayed in a S. Texas hotel that has a sign taped to the mirror that says "do not clean fish or birds in sink."

That's how you know you've chosen a classy joint.

I have stayed in at least a half dozen such establishments. On at least 4 of those trips, the sign was applicable -- had to clean my critters outside, and some of these places didn't even have a cleaning station.

We always calculate 5 lbs per person (live) for a boil. How much do you have left, and are we talking peeled or unpeeled crawfish?

Yeah...my first crawfish boil in Austin (15 years ago or so) was a shock.  We used to calculate 5 lbs a person back in Houston.  Here, I dialed it down to 3 lbs.  We invited a diverse (very Austin-y) crowd....and went through 1.5 lbs per person.

Seriously, in Austin, if you're inviting a broad spectrum crowd, including a good number of folks who look at a boil as a social occasion and didn't grow up eating them, 1-2 lbs a person is plenty.  If you have at least 1/3 of your crowd as real eaters, go up to 3 lbs a person.

Nowadays, I only boil crawfish for real eaters, and 3 lbs a person is a bit light.  Did a 30 lb sack for 10 of us for the helluvit, and it wasn't quite enough.

There is not going to be a jury trial Hugo. My posts aren’t about what I want to happen. They are what I think is likely given reality. If mueller presents evidence of payments to hookers and past shady business dealings, that is not going to get trump forcibly removed,  no matter what you, I, or anyone else thinks he deserves. That may well get an impeachment trial started if/when the Dems take the House, but it’s not going to get 67 votes in the senate to convict. Clinton’s votes straight along party lines in his trial. That’s what you’ll see here UNLESS mueller has solid evidence of trump conspiring with Russia. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think so

I've already said what I think will happen if mueller does have concrete evidence

Firing mueller is a whole other deal politically. I don’t see trump doing that and if he does I expect him to be successfully impeached

Yeah...remember when a SINGLE act of malfeasance -- lying under oath about a blowjob -- was enough to get a president impeached?

    Yeah...good times.  Good times.

The problem is the complete destruction of any and all of good norms of the office.  It took over two centuries to build up the office of the presidency (and it ended up overbuilt -- too much power in the executive, too much power ceded by Congress).  It takes no time at all to wreck it.  And that's where y'all think I'm "hysterical" and whatnot.  Sorry, but I've read enough history, and been an active part of the process as institutions/businesses/similar entities that have existed for decades fall apart in a matter of months.  This is EXACTLY how this shit happens.  It takes centuries to build a city.

It takes one firebombing to destroy it (sorry, Dresden -- you're just too good an example).  Building is hard.  Destroying is easy.  Trump is destroying the institution and the norms.  And the GOP is a gang of grinning accomplices.  We'll see how they enjoy the rubble, and what comes out of it.

    I disagree.

Trump's brand promise is defeating and humiliating tribal enemies regardless of the cost, regardless of ethics, or anything else. Winning fights is his brand.  Midterm losses sufficient to lose the House in 2018 will wound and deflate the Trump coalition for that reason.

However, if the house impeaches and the Senate doesn't convict, Democratic enthusiasm collapses and the GOP is galvanized. If the Bill Clinton impeachment demonstrated anything, it's that impeachment must be a bipartisan process with broad bipartisan consensus. FWIW I think removing a president for the first time in our history is too serious to be undertaken on a one-party basis. But even if I didn't, it's just not smart politics in this situation.

If you can’t win it, don’t give the enemy the fight that he wants.

they should only impeach 1) after Mueller releases his report, and 2) if they actually have the votes to convict.

Which they won’t.  No matter what the Mueller report says.  The GOP has declared war against the rule of law and anything that’s actually good for the Republic, so don’t expect them to change their ways.

I’d like to make an announcement. According to that quiz, all you alpha worshipper right wingers need to follow my lead, because I am officially an alpha!

Oops.  They shoulda included a “do you like other dude’s dicks?” question.  Woulda kept you from slipping through.

  9. Had a witness to interview in Parsipanny, NJ a few years back.  Choice of two hotels: Sheraton for $350, Red Roof for $59.  Needed two rooms (one for my associate), and had a cost-conscious client.  So, Red Roof it was.

The sounds of “commercial activity” in the parking lot soothes us to sleep, and occasionally woke us up.

Sheets were stained enough that we each independently chose to sleep in our clothes, on top of the bedspread.

Shampoo came in like a little ketchup packet.

When we got in our car to head out. My associate said “new rule - we only stay in places with doors that open to an INSIDE hallway.”  Turns out she blocked her door with a chair leaned against it, as the drug deals outside her side of the building involved some heated “negotiations.”

But I’ve stayed in other Red Roofs that were fine.

I did the opposite once.  I was behind a lady eastbound on slaughter from Mopac, and at two consecutive lights before Brodie she had her head down and I had to honk.  We got to Brodie and she was in the left turn lane just ahead and to the left of me as I was going straight. Head down again.  The green light going straight turned and as soon as I started going I honked.  She promptly hit the gas and rear ended the car in front of her.  I laughed the rest of the way home.

    You’re a COMPLETE fucking asshole....

    ....and I kinda approve.

Yup, I posted it up on the top of this page. She has also been complaining that her email was hacked, so I'd expect we'll start seeing documentation relatively soon.

If her emails were hacked, and leaked, I presume that our esteemed POTUS will be most excited about it, because...

This is good news Brisket, enjoy it. Once the terms are finalized, then let the tirades commence.

    I agree.

But I also like to play chess.  I have a habit of looking several moves ahead.  I don't like the way this board looks.

But maybe I'm wrong.  I'd sure like to be wrong on this one.

My alternate hypothesis might actually qualify as a theory (note that the two terms are not synonymous):

    1) It is supported by massive amounts of evidence (see every post the POS has ever posted).

    2) It is the simplest explanation that fits the data.

    3) It is widely accepted to be the correct and true explanation of the data.
