  1. I don’t doubt it, most of the world is a very unforgiving place. It’s not Nazi Germany circa 1939, however.

Of course I would have, they were refugees.

No you wouldn’t have, you sack of shit.

Most importantly, because they had even LESS legal right to claim asylum at the time - modern asylum law didn’t exist then.

I thought you were about following the law? So which is it? Follow the law, and send the Jews packing, or break the law, and let them in illegally?

You’ve already said that following the law is super essential. Now you’re saying you’d have broken it. Be consistent.

  2. Wait, are you comparing these economic migrants to Jewish refugees escaping the holocaust? Whoa.

Really? You spend much time in A Honduran neighborhood lately? In terms of risk of life and limb....it’s pretty fucking stout.

Would you let the St Louis in or not? Answer you fucking gutless coward.

  4. No we are not being cruel to them on purpose.
They are being used as a political punishment for the current administration.
If we were rounding them up and forcing them into America, you might have a point.

This is what incredible stupidity/lies looks like. Read it, folks.
Your inability to even address the most basic premise of your argument (that they aren’t attempting to enter legally) shows that you are completely full of shit

    It isn’t. You’re fucking stupid.
    Whats misrepresented?
You are advocating violating our asylum laws. They are following a legal process.
    You’re also a gigantic pussy.

it's amazing how many people breathlessly clamoring that the LAW NEEDS TO BE FOLLOWED!!!!!!! don't have any idea of what the law is.

    And all of this.

Simple question for Slorch: early in the nazi regime, a ship of Jewish children tried to enter the US (the St Louis). The law did not allow them to enter.

Should we have allowed them in or not?

I remind you, everything the nazis did was 100% legal.

    Slavery was legal.

“It’s the law” is a TERRIBLE argument. And I say that as a practicing attorney.

  6. Did the Round tower and walk through Nyhavn and a long walk through the pedestrian shopping district (most photos have the fam in them, so not here). I will say...we all loved the damned LEGO store. 16 or not, the boy was very tempted there.

At the hotel bar, recharging before the FIFA match tonight (I think we have found a place to watch...):

  7. Had to get lunch there, of course.

The boy was thrilled with caccio y pepe from a fresh pasta stand:

And we got some Smørrebrød - fish cake for the girl, wife for shrimp and egg, and I got liver pate with lingonberries, bacon, and beets (holy shit):

And did I go back to the seafood counter? Fuck yeah I did. Fried herring in a curry seasoning (goddamned amazing, but I’m the only herring fan here), octopus salad (meh, not great seasoning), fish cake made with cod and pork fat (so yeah, good), and simple local fried shrimp.

And some candied dates for dessert:

  8. In Copenhagen. Already regretting only scheduling 3 days here. We like it MUCH more than Oslo - such a classic old world city.

We had a free form kind of day. Slept in (needed the rest), headed to the palace a block away to watch the changing of the guard (meh...they were not terribly crisp, and my god, they all looked 17). Then, coffee and a simple brunch: porridge for the ladies, an egg, rye toast, and cheese for the guys. Then we walked through the old place gardens.

Lavender and yellow roses (Texas, y’all) smelled incredible.

Then we walked a bit more, to Torvehallerne. Dude...that place is fucking COOL. Next time we come, we’ll air BNB, so we can shop and cook dinner ourselves a few times.

And hey, outside they had tacos!

We talked (espanol, man) with the crew - Mexican and Argentine. Didn’t get any, but they knew what they were doing.

  9. That is not entirely true. My brother and father are Trumpkins. My mother voted for Trump but has come around a bit. She cannot believe how shitty of a person he is and his communication style makes her cringe. She was disturbed by Brett Kavanaughbeerme.

She offered this on her own without any knowledge of the graft going on. No surprise she never heard of this on OAN or FOX.

But she’ll still end up voting for him over that damned socialist (name). “Reluctantly,” of course. Guaranteed.

538 listed Emerson as the second most accurate polling service since Nov 2016.
Emerson’s June poll has Trump at 45-48% in five races.  He’s in margin-of-error country against candidates like Warren, Buttigieg, and Harris.  Many who do not approve of his performance will nevertheless vote for him over a Democrat.  Those voters can be swayed.

No. They can’t. All Fox News has to do is cal the dem candidate a socialist once (and of course, they’ll do it 700 times a day), and all of those people will “reluctantly” vote for Trump.
So... we should basically become the Blue version of the Red evil we oppose?  Fuck that.  We are better because we are principled.  Because we believe in truths, rights, and mutual respect that transcends superficial partisanship.  If we sacrifice our principles to win, the victory will be a devastating defeat.

Now you’re getting it. That’s why there’s no “win” to be found. You want to fight nice, fair, and reasonably? Adorable...and you’ll lose, badly. Want to win? Then you have to play by the new rules of the game...meaning fight dirty. Which means our victory is a defeat.

Heads they win (the country is toast), tails we lose (same).
  11. The levels of dissembling and hiding of information are just incredible.

“If you’re not doing anything wrong, you don’t have anything to worry about.” Isn’t that what our law-and-order GOP types love to say?
  12. So in summary, he drowned her?

See, and y’all wonder why I periodically wish for people like Chrispy to experience such dire straits where risking a river crossing with a two year old is a better option than what they’ve come from.

The only choice Chrispy has to make about his daughter is where to send her to preschool. I wish him and all Trumkpkims that desperation. That terror. That pain.

And here’s the confession: I don’t wish that because that will help them realize the error of their ways. They never will. They’re all-in on evil. I just wish it because the universe is short on justice these days.

  13. How successful were the Norwegians at changing the minds of the Quislings, even as the Gestspo was imprisoning and executing their neighbors and countrymen? Not at all.

In fact, the Quislings LIKED it. The Trumpkins aren’t going to be appalled at their neighbors being hauled off - THEY APPLAUD IT.

You are appealing to the emotions of people who have chosen evil. And yes, that’s what they’ve chosen. They’ll deny it. They hate the label. But it’s what they’ve picked. That is where we are now. It is TOO LATE. They are gone. Beyond saving. Which is why the republic is toast. Our BEST case is a country where an opposition party tries to govern a population where 42% of them oppose the very concept of a free and constitutional government and people. There is no winning path left. Just different ways to fail.

Keep fighting. I will. Till the fucking end, because fuck them. But don’t ever fool yourself. They’ve condemned the country to its doom, we just haven’t smashed into the ground yet.

  14. Y’all, don’t block Chrispy. Read it. This is what the rationalization, and the banality of evil, looks like. This is how the nazi regime rationalized. You’ll note that everything - literally EVERYTHING - bad that has happened is the victims’ fault.

He MUST care about children, he has one of his own. And if only those terrible brown people cared as much for their kids as good white folks like Chrispy do, well, they’d stay in their place, and their kids wouldn’t drown. I mean, sure, they might die of any number of other things that are causing people to flee the only home they’ve ever known. But they wouldn’t drown. So see, this is really the brown peoples’ fault. Men wearing SS uniforms said this exact sort of thing as they bounced their own laughing children on their knee. Everything Chrispy says, we’ve read variations of before.

Read it. Soak up the evil. Realize that Chrispy is who we are, and who is in charge of the country. And then realize that everything you thought you knew about this country - boiling down to the US being the good guys - is a complete lie.

  15. And, had an ethical quandary at lunch. The girl ordered the smoked fish plate.

    53f06b88e6c3696fabb96089319ac227.jpg

It included both whale salami and smoked whale. The girl ate the salami... it then stopped, and couldn’t do more. I ate the smoked whale - like a very moist smoked beef, just a hint of fishiness. But...it really bothered me. Seriously, my first stirrings of environmental conscience were when I was 8-9, and became a lover of all things cetacean. I donated to save the whales, wrote letters, the whole deal.

I understand that there’s an indigenous whaling culture dating back a long ass time. But still. I already kinda regret taking part in it. Oh well. I tried it. I won’t be doing it again.

  16. Also, we went to the Norwegian resistance museum. If you’re not pissed off walking out of there, then you’re not paying attention. When I read about Quisling being summarily executed right outside the walls where I was standing, I fucking grinned.

The press is “truly the enemy of the people.” Huh. Man, why does that ring a bell?

I fucking hate nazis. Old ones, new ones, collaborators, quislings, all of them.

  17. I don't think the importance of networking can ever be overstated, this shit here is a good example of that.  Man, what a great trip for your kids.  Really enjoying the food pictures.  Isn't it amusing how we're more proud of some meal from a hole-in-the-wall cabin than a five-star restaurant?

Although this snack did just take the boy to his happy place:

  18. I still remember thinking I was big shit when I was a kid because I got to spend most of one summer in Houston with my dad. Told my friends about “big city” life when school started.
Now I read this about kids summering in Berlin & going to school in foreign countries and it ruins my perception of childhood and damages my ego. Check your privilege, Brisket.

Yeah...as a kid my typical summer vacation was driving 15 hours to visit family in the Mexican desert, with a stop off in the RGV to visit my mom’s folks. The big years were the years we road tripped to Colorado, and then a couple years later, to Florida. I was thrilled if we stayed in a motel with a pool.

My kids have been made VERY aware that their first trip to Europe was MY first trip to Europe. And that with experience and perspective comes responsibility and obligation. They know a lot more about this world and the people in it than I did...so what are you going to do with that?

And, this trip is a bit nicer than I had originally planned, as my wife’s uncle left us a nice gift, and he was a world traveler (flew in for our wedding direct from Botswana), so we thought it appropriate.

It helps that we’ve cultivated friendships with folks in several countries - people to host us, show us around, etc. (and of course, our door is open to them - my kids’ friends call our house the “Europe house,” because we often have someone from overseas staying with us).

    We’re very fortunate.
