  1. Sounds like Clemson has about 80% of a plan. All they need is: 1. Either the SEC or B10 to invite them 2. A way out of the GOR.
  2. That’s not the Pepper Hamilton report. That’s what Baylor admitted to, when the NCAA investigated (and the NCAA hasn’t had teeth in 13 years). Baylor lost the benefit of the doubt a long time ago.
  3. Ok, then you understand that ctj was correct when he said that 2005 Texas was the last clean MNC.
  4. OU sure wasn’t as dirty as they were under Fairbanks and Switzer, but… Big Red Auto- Bomar and the right guard may have been the only players cut loose, but they weren’t the only ones getting paid for nothing AD Peterson was definitely paid for. His dad was taken care of, too.
  5. It’s funny. I got my MBA from SMU (night school), and I can appreciate some of their history, but I’m not really a fan. That said- I don’t get the argument that they are anywhere below TCU and Baylor, as programs, going forward. I don’t really see that the Big XII is superior to the ACC as a conference. I don’t see that the TCU and BU 46,000 seat stadiums make that much of a difference over SMU’s 32,000 seat stadium. I think recruiting is going to come down to NIL and SMU has a good plan for that. I wish the Big XII had admitted SMU, because now SMU is inviting the ACC schools in to recruit Texas. I guess those fools old SWC friends, TCU, BU, UH and TT, always mindful of the significance of maintaining old rivalries, didn’t want the competition.
  6. ESPN is paying a lot of that money to facilitate Texas leaving the B12. There was a report about it last week. Care to share which B12 future matchup you see being on ABC, when OU is playing LSU at the same time? We will see what happens with the next B12 media contract.
  7. The flex is- there aren’t going to be any Big XII games on ABC in Texas. There will be SEC games involving UT, OU or TAMU. There won’t be many Big XII games on ESPN; most will be on ESPN2, etc. Texas could have Big XII games on Fox, unless there is something bigger like a Big 10 game involving blue bloods. (Think Fox will put a Big XII game on Fox when Texas plays Michigan?😄). Maybe they will have Texas-Auburn on ESPN instead of ABC, so they can have the UH-TT game on ABC. Does that seem likely to you?
  8. They won’t be recruiting against Texas and TAmU so much…I think. They’ll be recruiting against Baylor and TCU, and I think they’ll do just fine. I wonder which of these schools will be the first to figure out that the smart way to play the NIL game, if you’re not a top level funded school, is to focus the NIL on the top 45 players and not the whole roster.
  9. I know. Neither stadium was on campus. It was as bad, maybe worse, than Baylor playing at Floyd Casey.
  10. They recruited just fine from 1978-1984, with a crappy stadium issue. Why couldn’t they now?
  11. Oh, good point! I’d like to see Baylor and TT apologize for 2008 coaches’ poll votes. I’d like for Baylor to apologize for not providing the Pepper Hamilton report to the conference when the Big 12 voted to request it, and to provide it now.
  12. It is funny. According to William Cunningham: In 1990, Texas was planning to accept an invite from the PAC-10, but the PAC rule was that the vote had to be unanimous. Stanford blackballed Texas, presumably over concern of a threat to their non-revenue sport dominance. Cunningham called the SWC office and said Texas was now committed to stay. Three weeks later, the Stanford president called Cunningham to extend an invitation to join (the rest of the PAC told him he had to be the one to make the call, for obvious reasons). Cunningham said, “Sorry. We made a commitment. Can’t accept”. The PAC has been making really bad decisions for a long time.
  13. I don’t think Texas will ever again play a game in a stadium in Texas that doesn’t provide Bellmont with at least 50k tickets to distribute
  14. I used to, years ago, make the HL my listen while driving home. Today, when my podcast ended, I turned over to it. Sturm was going on about how Dak Prescott should take over and call the plays and offense he wants in late game come back drives. 😬
  15. I have seen plenty of Baylor fans and Briles apologists (the Venn diagram is almost a circle) say that the large amount of money paid Briles is proof that he did nothing wrong (Nevermind that they were paying for the NDA). If you have info, I’d love to hear it.
  16. I think Baylor football had a freshman player initiation that involves running a train on a girl. If they couldn’t find a willing one, they’d roofie one. That’s pretty heinous, if the HC knew and didn’t start a criminal investigation. (He did know and he didn’t start a CI). Baylor fired him and wasn’t going to pay him. Briles figured out how much silence was worn to to Baylor, and he called their bluff, threatening to talk. They paid. This one kind of slid under the radar- Briles’ S&C coach, Kaz Kazadi, was in the middle of all this. He ended up at SMU and Dykes brought him to TCU with him.
  17. The thing about this “No Blue Bloods Conference of Equals” is that each member thinks of their best team in the recent path, and in their heart of hearts, believes that will be their norm going forward- a series of B12 championships and playoff appearances. In their darker moments, they will allow that, perhaps, things may go awry for a while, and their team may have to take turns at the top with other teams. None of them foresee a future of regular 25k attendance, ESPN+ and FS2 broadcasts, developing players for portaling out to P2 teams and occasional Conference participation in playoffs.
  18. You made me look. Oh, my. I see a lot of complaints about NIL (“they’re paying players!”), followed by complaints about the PUF (because, evidently, that’s how we’re funding NIL? If only…) Rhule parlayed his 2019 season into an NFL job. Aranda parlayed his 2021 into job security.
  19. Aren’t there some posts on this thread, claiming the strength of the Big 12 is its lack of just crappy teams? Are the B12 ADs disappointed that they can’t extract more money from Texas? There is still o e way- if Texas makes the CFP, doesn’t the B12 profit?
  20. The 1992 “Teaff’s Last (regular season) Game” screw job had a lot of miscalls that would be corrected by replay today. In 2021, when Texas announced it was leaving, we saw bad calls and non-calls on roughing the passer and roughing the kicker, that we haven’t seen since. (They’ll call roughing in Texas when it didn’t really happen, but at least they’re not ignoring it when the other team roughs a Texas passer or kicker). Maybe somebody talked sense to them about player safety (and liability). Nobody from Texas will complain publicly. It would open us to ridicule- nobody really pays attention to us getting screwed by the refs but they would surely notice if we bitched. I think we have an idea what we’ll see- getting screwed on stuff that can’t be reviewed or won’t be overturned. PI calls and non-calls, holding calls and non-calls, ball spots.
  21. I really enjoy this old post where the OSU fan dreams of dropping Baylor. Sorry, Cowboy. They’re yours.
  22. Oh, we knew he was ethically challenged, and paid no heed to principles of fair play, written and unwritten, like every Sooner coach from Fairbanks on, to one degree or another, with the possible exception of Gibbs. (Did you know he made a play for Xavier Worthy to go to USC?). That’s why it’s funny to see Sooners react like this now, much like with Schnelly in ‘95, when he was abusing players. Sooners hire these assholes and encourage their asshole behavior, and then are wounded when they take their assholery too far. 😂
  23. I’m a little surprised KSU’s AD is that fucking dense. This thread is years old. When it started, we had IR8 teams from Texas commissioning studies for the state legislature to review, showing how awful it was that Texas was leaving and begging the lege to stop us (they couldn’t). There were fears from B12 schools that the next media contract would be a few million per school less than the old one. Then, we had reviews of the Grants of Rights. Everyone agreed- they couldn’t be broken. They weee rock solid. Magically, Yormark produced a good revenue deal! Yea! The Big 12 has value! A lot of value! (Yet, nobody ever mentioned the Fox/ESPN breakdown on the new deal). Now, this KSU AD idiot is asking where Texas’ and OU’s money is? Let me explain- “you have it. It’s in the new deal. UT and OU moving to the SEC is worth that much to ESPN”.
