  1. It makes you wonder- what other programs are talking to the B1G and SEC? Do you think the B1G has a tri-fold pamphlet- “What Is Required For B1G Membership?”, to save time? Wasn’t one of the B12’s strengths that, unlike the ACC, its members weren’t looking to bail?
  2. I have no words… https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mac-engel/article291166155.html
  3. A credit to the rehabilitative properties of our penitentiary system. At Oklahoma, he wore red and had a single digit number, when he needed to be wearing orange with a six digit number.
  4. I would have gone with another QB here- Charles Thompson is much more representative of the Sooner program. He brought the “doping” into the (Switzer quote about the late ‘80s program) “too much doping, shooting and raping” description of the Oklahoma program.
  5. I have a better #7. Rhett Bomar, who Mack Brown famously offered as a sophomore.
  6. Why? So that we can enrich accountants and lawyers setting up trusts and wealth transfers? It’s like you don’t realize how wealthy our legislators are.
  7. You can argue that about the individual tax rates and deductions from the 2017 act. The corporate tax reduction had been needed for a long time, and it would be stupid to increase it to pre-2017 rates, unless the desire is to have private sector operating like it did from 2007-2017, when the majority of growth was in the public sector and industries favored by government spending.
  8. I searched for an OU number 8 that could show their program in a bad light. I couldn’t find one. Evidently, it’s also difficult to find a number 8 Sooner that shows their program in a good light.
  9. Government jobs are what you’re looking for. Their pensions even have COLAs, unlike the private sector.
  10. So, their deaths are the fault of Hamas, right?
  11. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing attempt in Tel Aviv, threatening to open a violent new chapter of the conflict https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/hamas-claims-attempted-suicide-bombing-as-cease-fire-diplomacy-resumes-f13b4f0f?st=m23vuuqld1jhi0n&reflink=share_mobilewebshare
  12. I think that, if you keep working, two things happen: 1. There is a tax penalty on the SS 2. Your continued salary has no impact on your SS. IOW, you (and your employer) continue to pay FICA, but the baseline for your SS is unchanged. As to Immamac’s strategy- it can be a good one, based on the key element of “invest all the SS payments”. Maybe even “invest most of the SS payments”. My opinion is you need to really be sure that you won’t be drawing in those payments for “life stuff”. I don’t mean spending it on extra trips and stuff; I assume most have the discipline for that. What about- you’re getting that check each month, plan to invest it, but you realize Mom’s assisted living facility is kind of crappy, and none of your siblings can (or will) help? And you have that check that can make a difference? How about that favorite niece with the worthless parents? She has a job, but her car is broken and she can’t afford to repair or replace? My point is- we love people; we don’t love money. I suspect that the strategy is harder than we first think. I get a small pension ($1,500 per month). I’m 60. I think I posed the question on the “Help” board about the monthly payment vs. the lump sum. I decided to take the pension monthly, and invest it. Every month that check comes in, and every month it is needed for bills, and I am so glad I get it.
  13. When the administration puts trillions into the economy, economists warned of inflation. We had inflation. Wages didn’t keep up for the average worker. The Fed fought the inflation by raising interest rates dramatically. Is any of this really controversial?
  14. Ok, that’s a joke, right? Because nobody in 1945 thought Okie State were MNC.
  15. The Israeli government is reported (by newspapers) to be amenable to a proposed cease fire deal. Hamas walked away from the table and sent a suicide bomber to blow up (thankfully, just himself) in Tel Aviv, as a message.
  16. Is that really a good strategy? So you recruit a good prospect, and he works out, and portals to a B1G or SEC team for more money and exposure?
  17. I am so glad that Grant Teaff gets to live to see Baylor football fall into insignificance
  18. Not necessarily. Boosters can visit the players after the game, scan the helmet up close, and contribute. It’s a modernization of the old Sooner practice of dropping cash in players’ helmets as they walk under the stands after the game.
  19. I would count more on accuracy in Cross’ book than Dent’s. Dent is an old drunk that loves a good story too much.
  20. This schedule is why Venables was given an extension before this season. Castiglione knew he would need an extension to recruit after the season, and the season record might make it not realistic to extend it after this season.
  21. Here is my choice. The Belldozer. OU believed that their Tyrone Swoopes analog could start at QB for them. He managed to get outplayed by Case McCoy. Now, he is a blocking TE in the NFL (KC?)
  22. “…hosting former conference rival Arkansas.“ ? I looked it up. Both were in the SWC from 1915-1924. That was 100 years ago. Was the writer counting that?
  23. Harbaugh?
  24. I think Wilkinson built that program by increasing the professionalism of the coaching, compared to peers, more than lawlessness. I have the game program from the ‘51 RRS. OU has ten assistant coaches. Texas had five. Now, Switzer cheated like an SOB. He had to- any time he tried inserting any coaching judgment, he fucked things up.
  25. Years ago, on the Barking Carnival, Scipio noted that the Sooners were ok recruiting a certain amount of thugs and punks, if they could play well. (They absolutely won’t tolerate that behavior from a meh player. Ask Justin Chaisson). A lot of Sooners commented in protest, that it wasn’t so, that Texas was no better. After Peterson, after Mixon, after Brooks, the Sooners can’t really protest the claim. All they can do is own it, and point to the wins. What do we want you to do? Just own it.
