  1. 1:00 AM. Officially game day. Deferred adjudication over. Beer flowing in garage. Tunes on a sedate volume for now. Bernard
  2. I’m no believer, but I can’t deny there are some benefits to forgoing all logic and reason and just believing. Bernard
  3. Loved Bull Durham. And love my many dear friends who are true blue JC believers. I always remind them that our beliefs aren’t so different. They think 2,999 of the known religions are complete BS. I just think the same of all 3,000. Bernard
  4. I feel sorry you brainwashed and/or gullible fools. Religion is a scourge on humanity. Religion itself is the evil. The believers are its victims. Give reality a try. You might like it. Bernard
  5. There’s a fair bit of chatter on AirBNB hosts Facebook groups about units being shut down when neighbors complain directly to AirBNB. I’d keep calling AirBNB every time anything you don’t like is happening next door. Whenever you call in be sure to request a “ticket number” for your complaint. Keep a record of these ticket numbers so you can refer to them in every subsequent call to AirBNB. Bernard
  6. No one got hit after the bailer bailed. Thanks for reminding me of this hilarious video though. Bernard
  7. I disagree. Compressors are getting better, not worse. When I had that 1993 unit installed, Goodman was the new name for Janitrol AC units. Some folks told me back then that Janitrol/Goodman was trash and wouldn’t last. My job back then was CRE acquisitions; strip centers and warehouses. Our in-house AC guy liked Goodman. So did one of our property managers. They’ve been proven right. I bought the system on our company account. 5-ton condenser, coil, air handler with electric heat, and all new ductwork in the attic: $2,000. Paid our guy and his helpers $1,000 to install. The outside unit looks pretty janky after 27 years in the sun, but still blows cold. Bernard
  8. Call it a win. Lots of AC would have told you straight up your compressor is dead and you need a new unit, especially if you’re a woman. Same day service. 9:30 PM arrival. Sleeping in a cool house that same night. Money well spent. Bernard
  9. Time of year matters. Supply and demand. A new AC in Texas costs more in August than in January. A new system install is more like a full day for two guys. They have to the the equipment on site, and haul off your old junk. Throw in some extra parts too like a new line set and a new pad. All that said, these guy make out like bandits during hot summer months when they are all busy and a homeowners are sitting in hot houses with broken systems. Even worse, many AC guys are actual bandits. They will lie through their teeth about the repairs your system really needs. MANY a homeowner has been sold a new system when all they needed was a $30 capacitor. Bernard
  10. Don’t sweat it. Capacitors fail. It’s zero reflection on the health of the rest of the system. Assume you’ll make it to 20 years, or more. I put a Goodman in my mom’s house in 1993. It’s still going strong, but it’s had the capacitor replaced a few times. Bernard
  11. Send all the players to New Zealand , or some other COVID-free place, for a semester abroad. Play all the games at Eden Park. We can have college football every night of the week. TV revenue out the ying yang. Bernard
  12. Made my claim on 6/24. Deposited my $962 check today. 🙂 Bernard
  13. I filed a claim several weeks ago for $900-something. This thread reminded me to check the status. Current status says: “Your claim has been approved and submitted for payment. You should receive a check in 7-10 business days.” Bernard
  14. Why would it take a few weeks? Anyone with a smart meter (isn’t that everyone by now?) can sign up for a new plan and have new service up and running in 30 minutes. Bernard
  15. Took a break. Can’t remember why. Now back. 🙂 Bernard
  16. A buddy of mine is an ER doctor. He’s fond of saying, “It’s hard to actually die.” Bernard
  17. They accused me of being drunk. Also thought my music was too loud. I disagreed. I told them all my thoughts on cops, loudly, over the course of 30 minutes. At some point they called for back up. I received a $762 citation for excessive noise. Went to court and the fine was reduced to $0, plus $180 court costs. Can’t drink in garage again until 8/20 when my deferred adjudication expires. 🙂 Bernard
  18. Power to Choose sucks ass. Too many BS, highly engineered plans that screw people. Use Texas Power Guide. For $10 their tool will show you the cheapest plans based on your actual monthly power usage. The tool also shows you 100% renewable plans, which are only slightly more expensive (sometimes equal to) plans with lots of coal and gas in their mix. https://www.texaspowerguide.com/ Bernard
  19. Option 2, with a note saying I want to turn in 2 of my 4 tickets. If they let me in, I’ll be there, but I don’t expect too many friends, family, etc. will be joining in. Bernard
  20. Just discovered this thread. Horns were off the first weekend of November 2019, so I went to London to checkout Texans v Jaguars. In between countless pubs, managed a side trip to Emirates Stadium for Arsenal v Wolverhampton. Recap: 1. Uber to Tollington Pub. 2. Not allowed in pub since we don’t have Arsenal tickets, clothing, or club card. 3. Starts raining, so we eat gyros in the shop across the street. 4. Stops raining so we move around outside Tollington Pub. 5. Meet some old guys who agree to sneak us in the back door of pub. 6. Consume much beer quickly. 7. Walk to stadium. 8. Buy tickets from dude on the street. 9. Enter stadium. 10. Slam Budweiser (only beer available) in the concourse since you can’t bring it to your seat. 11. Enjoy game, although it ends in a 1-1 tie. Bernard
  21. Pic 1: start of evening. Pic 2: end of evening. Fuck the police. Bernard
  22. Apparently that’s the going rate for a noise violation. Typical 3-story Montrose townhouse of the mid-90’s. Bernard
  23. Ha. I swear the Sun was out when the party started. Also, I was posting videos all night to a Facebook group called Shotgun Friday for Social Distancing and I wanted to represent. I was also overdue for a haircut when the shutdown stated and shit was getting out of control by then. I can’t believe my shirt was tucked in at 2:30 in the morning. Must’ve been trying to look official. 🙂 Bernard
  24. Had my own run in with HPD in April. It was Friday; and my birthday, and NFL Draft day; and the bars were all closed; so I decided drinking beer in my garage alone was the perfect thing to do. These guys thought my music was too loud. Accused me of being drunk. I shared ALL my thoughts on cops with them, loudly. They called for backup. I was handed a $752 citation. In court it was reduced to $0.00 plus $180 court costs. Well worth it. Bernard
