  1. "4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years." Meanwhile, on the other side of the Cotton Bowl... "Grad-u-ate. Grad-u-ate. Grad-u-ate!"
  2. That would shock me less than going back and telling my past self how much in favor of it I would be. I had people around me campaigning to join the SEC long before A&M did. I loathed the idea at the time. I mean, I still don't like it, but I understand it was absolutely the best decision.
  3. There are three primary ways the House settlement is being challenged. One is antitrust. The other is Title IX. The third is athlete employment status. All three are extremely sticky, with no clear resolution. There is potential relief from federal legislation or some kind of executive order, but it's unclear what form it would take. There's a decent chance it would make the whole thing worse in some ways. And certainly it would be challenged in court as well. And that's assuming something gets passed, which I have serious doubts about. Not to mention the settlement agreement is going to be challenged by athletic programs and their boosters as well, in a pursuit to find workarounds to field better teams.
  4. The article you're citing doesn't make as clear cut a case as you seem to be. The person most responsible for its implementation was a German officer critical of naziism. The Fuhrer stopped the program in 1939 after the invasion of Poland, ultimately preferring to massacre Jews in concentration camps rather than send them to Palestine. The German Jews who were sent off to Palestine likely escaped a fate in the concentration camps, whether that was permanent incarceration or death. It appears according to the source you're citing that the Nazi support of the creation of a Jewish state was lukewarm at best, advocated by opportunists among German Jewish Zionists and anti Nazi German officials.
  5. Jews who do not support the state of Israel are often accused of self loathing and self hate by members of their own community. I'm not attempting to repeat neonazi propaganda efforts. I don't have to. I'm repeating messages propagated within the community itself.
  6. It's a message board. If American Jews feel politically homeless, let's compare them to Muslims. Especially Muslims sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. There are a lot of people who feel politically homeless. It's an important point to make, regardless of Chuckie's awareness of it.
  7. There are a lot of people who feel politically homeless right now. It's not specific to American Jews. There's a lot of litmus testing going on.
  8. That's not helpful. If you have a point, please say it. If you don't want to post it, feel free to message me.
  9. All of the Jews I personally know are highly supportive of the state of Israel, while not necessarily being supportive of the current government. I would argue the opposite. To indicate an opposition to the state of Israel is conflated with antisemitism. My observation has been this is a tool used to try to suppress criticism of the state of Israel.
  10. I have no familiarity with NAACP other than what I've read. I do not think of the NAACP as influential or persuasive as AIPAC. It's my opinion AIPAC historically is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States, at least post WWII.
  11. All I can tell you is that all the wealthy Jews I am friends with are heavily pro Israel, donate heavily to both parties. When I have attended AIPAC functions in Houston I am often one of the few goyim there. If you say that money is coming from Republican megadonors then so be it. That's just not my personal experience.
  12. So you see AIPAC money as being non Jewish money? BTW, there is plenty of Jewish money donated to political causes outside of AIPAC. Not all of it is single agenda donations revolving around Israel, but a lot of it is.
  13. Hiding immigrants in their home and encouraging Latino teen daughters to write diaries?
  14. Pro-Israel groups spent big to oust two Squad members in primaries - ABC News
  15. Maybe it is. But the truth is Muslims in Michigan didn't have a good choice between either party, both of whom are dominated by Jewish money to one degree or another. That said, while there wasn't a good choice, there was a clear choice, and they chose poorly in a way that was not good for their community. Bottom line though is that it's tough sledding getting a pro Palestinian president elected in this country regardless. The best that can be hoped for is less of a hardliner in terms of being pro-Israel.
  16. This isn't really about the Director's Cup, as much as it is another comparison of baseball and volleyball. I always hoped volleyball would somehow magically put it together in the postseason and then steamroll through the Final Four the way they did the year before. Obviously, it never happened. I always thought the baseball team was put together with chewing gum and bailing wire to some degree. Just a clutch team that seemed to do what it took all season long, with heroics from everyone up and down the lineup. But I never thought of us as a potential juggernaut, particularly after we lost our one true stud starting pitcher. The volleyball team had the talent. Just something was off all season long. Didn't even win the conference, which I thought was practically a given, while the baseball team did, in a sport the SEC has been better at than volleyball traditionally (nothing against Kentucky, who has absolutely been a great program, along with Florida). Skinner for one, IMO, should have been the best player in the country by far, and she simply wasn't able to attain that level for a variety of reasons. In any case, it's not over either way, but I am nervous about our track and field performances. To carry the metaphor further, I feel like we have a huge lead in the 4X100 with the baton handed off to our anchor, but USC has the equivalent of Johnny Lam Jones on their side.
  17. This upsets me a lot less than you might imagine. Rodney Terry had to go. We're very fortunate we got out of that deal in a minimum amount of time.
  18. "We should want college sports to collapse on itself like any poorly regulated market in a normal boom/bust cycle." That's what you just wrote without intending to.
  19. I can't agree with you there. I'm not rooting for them, but I'm indifferent about their success.* Winning the director's cup is a big deal to me. I watched as Stanford dominated this thing for a couple of decades because they fielded so many more sports than we did. Now that they've limited the advantage having extra programs gives Stanford (I'm not completely on board with this, since I think fielding more teams should be incentivized, but that's a different topic) with only the top 20 results counting, Texas has been dominating. Personally, I love it. *That's not true. I get a great deal of entertainment value at watching their reactions to repeated failures. So I'm not indifferent. I also can't imagine being indifferent about them winning a national championship in football. I'm not concerned about it, but that wouldn't be an ideal outcome. I still remember OU winning a national championship in football in 2000. That was a dagger through the heart. I'd prefer they remain awful, because that's fun. But I'm not going to be too bothered if they manage to become good in something aside from meat judging.
  20. No no no. THEY'LL understand it. They just won't be able to EXPLAIN it.
  21. I know one of the things Del Conte is doing with the proposed House Settlement money sharing is fully funding the available spots with full scholarships. So now every sport that Texas fields a team will have every slot as a fully paid ride. Assuming something doesn't change via legislation or through the courts.
  22. Are they playing OU? No? I'm not rooting for A&M.
  23. It's a great high school type venue. It's their all everything arena. Not really a bad seat in the house. All bench seating. It should be a good crowd. The students will show up for sure. "Safe-Ty Schoo-oool" clap clap clap is their favorite chant. If you can, get seats towards the middle of the court. Doesn't matter which side. I would be a little surprised if it sells out, but not entirely. Rice will give out tickets to high schools and local club teams in group packages to try to make sure the place is full. In any case, the place will be pretty packed. 3000 minimum. I've gone to multiple matches there. It's pretty full even for exhibition games if Texas is playing. Try to take her to Gregory Gym if you get the chance. I didn't compare the home schedule to football, but sometimes you can make it an extended weekend. It's arguably the best home court atmosphere in volleyball.
  24. I saw one list where he's the 16th best punter in the country. The 5 star ranking is by the kicking promoter that runs a camp and promises to promote the players that go through their training. At this point it seems dumb to me not to recruit punters out of Australia.
  25. I can't even discuss NIL and the transfer portal with people who don't follow it. Eyes start glazing over very quickly. They prefer their convicted opinions based on sheer ignorance. That's a complicated subject, but it's nowhere remotely close to as complicated as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
