Go get the Bama DL coach and be done with it
Orgeron seemed ridiculous, but Bobby keeps bringing him up. Hard to know if he is the same level of coach that he was a decade ago when he was coaching DL, but if he is, he is an upgrade. He was an absolute witch on the recruiting trail, which nobody can explain. He was a great developer.

This is underrated post!
Need a coach with last name Bacon. And it’s perfect combo.
Thought for sure they’d hire Vrabel. Wish Mayo and Kraft luck there. It’s less of a hard act to follow than Saban because Belichick has been bad since Brady left/exposed. Saban made the CFP. Almost made finals.I dont know, it seems a bit redundant.

I wish there was a place you could go to find out simple facts like population of a city..

Yeah, I don't understand this "It's tough to recruit at Oregon."
Even Dana Altman has been landing 5 stars almost every cycle in men's basketball. You can land top 5 classes at Oregon much like Lanning will this year (especially with Big 10 membership).
Nobody said it was not possible, but it’s easier to recruit at schools like Georgia and Texas that have huge recruiting grounds in their backyards. When you don’t that means you have to recruit nationally and those are much tougher recruitments. Oregon is being boosted by the issues at USC and UCLA currently.

I think Oregon is a pretty attractive job now with Big 10 membership.
The only schools that should be able to out recruit them is Ohio State, USC, and maybe Michigan. There's also a ton of uncertainty around the 3 coaches at those schools in Day, Riley, and potentially Harbaugh bolting for Michigan.
Nike money, the 2nd best conference in football, and a ton of uncertainty for the top echelon schools in the Big 10. You can win big at Oregon IMO.
It’s still Oregon, which makes recruiting tough. No natural recruiting pipeline within a 5 hour drive.

Lots of buzz now that the choice is Lanning and could be finalized tonight. I really wonder how much interest Kelly would have in Oregon and Oregon would have in Kelly. We might still get the absolutely delicious drama of Jimbo -> LSU buzz even without the Michigan domino falling.
Heard his buy out is 20mm, that would be a ton of money for Bama to shell out
3 minutes ago, HateYouAndMyself said:Worth noting but if Lanning is the hire at Bama you can be basically certain he will bring Tosh Lupoi with him to stay in that DL / DC role under him. That displaces Roach who is one of the few DL coaches in the country that I would view as a similar quality replacement for Davis. His time at Bama did briefly overlap with Sark.
Tosh can coach LB, so that isn’t an issue

You mean current DC of Oregon Tosh Lupoi? That one?
I said it isnt going there. Nansen was on the staff. Wilcox was his DC. He seems pretty solid at identifying coaching talent. I was just looking at his old coaching staffs.
-
I forgot that Tosh Lupoi was Sark's DL coach at Washington. I dont think it is going there, but I saw his name in the this chat

I meant it primarily due to all the scandals he has been attached to and my doubts an Orgeron hire would get through compliance. He also seems really comfortable in his semi-retirement though just doing coaching camps and advertisements.
Bo got through compliance, so I dont think that would be an issue. I dont think it is particularly likely anyway

saying 1.5mm. Mentioned Joyner and Orgeron..

I don't know if you're trolling or not, but Vrabel only coached LB's at Ohio State.. not D Line
I was joking, but he coached LB in 2011 and DL in 2012-2013 for OSU..

You are thinking too small. Vrabel just got fired from the Titans..

can he recruit?
Hell of a question, but he did develop well at Baylor. He had to recruit there. He has NFL experience. I doubt Sark goes in that direction, but he came to mind.

Saw someone float Rod Wright from the Texans as his replacement. I don't think he has enough skins in the wall, but always nice to get former players back. Any thoughts?
Funny, I thought of Frank Okam. Was DT coach under Matt Rhule at Baylor and Carolina. 1 year at Raiders and now Toledo..

For you I will do it..
CSU- 0.9
@ Michigan- 0.5
UTSA- 0.9
ULM- 0.95
MSU- 0.85
OU- 0.65
UGA- 0.4
@Vandy- 0.85
Florida- 0.7
@ Ark- 0.7
UK- 0.75
@ A&M- .65
Texas favored in 10 of 12 games. That gets you to 8.8, so call it 9 and 3 expected. That is just off the cuff with 0 work put into it.

Watts got hit in the back, not the play the OL belly swallowed him whole.I have never heard of the 5 yard rule. I know the NFL calls it "close-line" play. I do know that you dont have a 10 yard area from sideline to sideline surrounding the LOS to block in the back. Other exceptions being loose ball, player turns. I dont know why I am blanking on that Watts play.

A push in the back within 5 yards of LOS isn’t a penalty. Crew from last week shoulda told you.
if you are talkign about the Watts play that was below the waste, not in the back.

Some wild stats I read today.
Michigan led at halftime of every game.
First team in over 120 years to not allow an opponent to score 25 points in a game. (24 twice Maryland & O$U)
Bowling Green accounted for 4 of Michigan's 5 offensive turnovers on the season. Aside from the Bowling Green game, Michigan's offense lost 1 possession on a turnover in 14 games. (I still don't know that that is true but I read it on the internet)
Lowest star ranked team to win a championship since team recruiting stats.
It is a BS stat that said the 1st team not to allow an opponent to score 25 points in 15 games. I am ashamed you fell for that, since 1997 Michigan never gave up 25 pts.

I definitely would not concede the Michigan game either but also I'm not going to sit here and chalk up a trip the the Big House as a W and move on. Depends on what both team's rosters look like after portal and draft dust settles, and what Harbaugh does, but right now it's more or less a tossup to me. Georgia is probably the only game I look at and think "Yeah, probably a L."
Kentucky and Florida both scream trap game with where they are on the schedule. I'm not particularly worried about either team in a vacuum but given where they fall a slip up would not surprise me. Glad both are at home.
I have not done it, because it is way too early, but if you assign a percentage to each game. I would bet you come up with a win total in the 8.5-9.5 area. As fans we tend to see a game that Texas is a 3 pts favorite in and mark it down as a win..

he did not have the front of his jersey. his arm slid right across the front. the official was full of shit and stammered through that because he knew it was a horrible call.
Yes, he beat him inside and then just fell down on his own. Nothing to do with the reach with the left arm arm and the push in the back from the right.

as bad as those were...i think the single most important one was the phantom holding call ON washington's right tackle in which he absolutely did not hold...the michigan de just fell down. and it happened on the one play penix and number 1 had that was reminiscent of last week's game in which penix dropped one in the bucket over 1's shoulder for a 35 yard pass. 45 yard swing at a critical moment in the game. game over.
that said, i am still super pissed about the non-call unsportsmanlike late hit on ryan watts that washington got away with in a critical moment against us so fuck em.
You mean the one where he had the front of the jersey and clubbed the DE in the back to avoid Penix taking a sack? I believe that was the one Herbie was yammering about and the former official told Herbie he is an idiot.
