From what every scout, reporter, and coach have said.  It's not a stretch to say Arch has better footwork and mechanics and if fact it's true.  Watch the few reps of Arch, how he escapes the pocket while maintaining his body, his sense of pressure and find me 1 clip of Quinin in his 2 years here that shows that.  Quinn's elite trait is that he can make every throw in every arm angle with short and intermediate throws.  His weaknesses are his footwork and his ability to go through progressions.  His deep ball is also very questionable.  Also keep in mind, Quinn has now been in college 3 years.  Arch has had 3 NFL hall of famers coach him up his whole life.  There is a reason Quinn is coming back and it's because he wouldn't even go in the top 5 QBs in this draft.  He's talented but he has a lot of room to improve.  I'm excited he's coming back but I also want what's best for Texas.  I fully expect Quinn to start as Sark likes experienced QBs.  I also think Texas will be a much better offense and lethal when Arch is running Sark's RPO here.

I dont completely disagree with this. I thought Arch looked decisive in his limited time in the offense and had nice pocket presence. It wasnt enough to make any legitimate statements on his readiness. Lot of QBs can look cool in the pocket with a 40 pts lead. It certainly left me wanting to see more. I still think Quinn is far likelier to be the best option for Texas next year, but I can not say there is not small percentage possibility that Arch would be better.

    I wanted a touchdown, duh.

great y'all think redzone offense was good enough. I don't.

last two redzone drives 0/2 for TDs.

we lost needing a TD to win from the redzone. definition of not good enough.

    explanations are for losers.

That is not what I said. I said the normal red zone offense was damn good. 4/4 in the red zone scoring TDs.. The situation exposed the drop back red zone offense. Red zone is also far down the list of issues that lost Texas the game.

I disagree our redzone offense was good enough. I'm fine y'all disagree. it was a problem all year, against OU it cost us the game (arguably) and in a game with little room for error it wasn't good enough against WA. I don't think the run game was off the table to the point the defense could ignore it on the penultimate drive (with 1:15 knowing we had to onside kick it we had plenty of time). and even if it was, the weapons we had, a TD should be something a "mastermind" like Sark, a 5 star QB and NFL talent at WR/TE should be able to convert. fact remains, redzone offense was 1/2 in the final two possessions and 0/2 for TDs.  That doesn't cut it. Given redzone offense was a major issue all year - and I'm acknowledging it did get better down the stretch - it was not good enough in two games we lost.  I just don't see how you can argue that.

We will disagree. Knowing you have a slim shot at an onside kick isnt a great situation and reason to risk taking the clock down to 30 seconds. You are over-looking the importance of the defense having to respect the run (again from the 7 and from 12). Yes, you can run a quick pitch and pray he scores or gets out of bounds. My point was people love to hold on to simple memes., like "Texas struggles  in the red zone". You can not simply say  it was the red zone that hurt Texas in this game. Texas was 4-4 scoring TDs in the red zone coming into the final 2 drives. Hard to say that the red zone offense was poor in this game. There were far bigger issues in this game than the redzone performance. If we are being honest with ourselves, it was a minor miracle that Texas even got that last opportunity to win the game. That was due to luck (Washington injury) and poor clock management from Deboer

4/7 fumbled in the redzone too if I’m not mistaken. And the run game was not off the table in the FG drive. Furthermore, get to the 5 yard line on the last drive and a run play is not off the table - high risk - but not off the table.

Blue's fumble was recovered on Washignton's 24 yard line and the play started at the Texas 43 yard line, so it is only 6 trips..

You can try to run the ball, but it has to be successful or you lose (that is on both drives). It is a big risk. My point was normal red zone offense is off the table in those last 2 drives. This is was not normal Texas red zone issues. This does highlight the drop back red zone issues Texas has had all year. Once the run game is not present in the defense's mind (defense is not going to fire out fast at run action from the 7 or 12 in those situations), the RPO and play action game is much less effective. That throws out most the playbook.

The redzone offense which iessentially caused Texas to shit the bed the last two drives versus WA has to be the number 1 issue to fix. I’m going to think Sark’s identity of accountability and transparency means he knows this and addresses it.

the number 2 issue has to be third quarter complacency. I think a lot of that is inexperience with underclassmen not in the way you think but simply a lack of experience to turn the intensity up a notch right after half. I recall we had the same problem last year but it resulted in 5 losses. This year it resulted in a CFP loss.

fix those two things and plug a few holes with departures from the two deep and Texas vs Georgia is #1 v #2 and the horns have a legit shot at going undefeated.

Texas scored 4 TDs on 6 redzone drives. Normal redzone offense was actually quite good. The last 2 redzone trips were not normal situations. The run game was off the table.

Yeah to an open J Witt who has a ready blocker on the only DB on that giant open side of the field. J Witt finishes as a legend rewarded for all his hard work. Life is good...

I saw him and laughed. It’s 4th and goal and they motion him to stand on the 20 yard line. Not sure what the point of that was

    Make him CO-DC at 1.5M.

I dont think that is possible. Looks like Nansen is the top choice to come in as the LB coach (his daughter attends Texas). He is currently the DC at Arizona, so he would have to be given the Co-DC title in order to bring him in. Texas will just have to do it the Randy Moss way, straight cash homie.

    9. Freddie Roach, Alabama -- $750,000
    10. Mark Hagen, Purdue -- $700,000

That is from May of 2023, but I cant imagine it has changed dramatically.

  9. The one thing that I think Quinn really needs to work on it is using his arm. You can see the arm strength, when they run a deep stop or the deep out to the wide side. Outside of that, I rarely see Quinn unleash a frozen rope. He has an elite arm, I am not sure why he does not use all the arrows in his quiver

Our pass blocking has been better than our run blocking all year. And our pass blocking was fine in this game. Quinn mostly had time. As it was all year, at least one of those sacks was on him holding the ball. I think he'll get better at making those quick reads with another year.

Washignton got pressure, mostly Trice. Texas did not have an answer for him. Jones may have PTSD from that game.  He single handily had 8 pressures, 2 sacks, 3 TFLs. and a forced fumble

We had one guy covering tight and the other 10-15 yards back, often not even in front of him, but closer to the center of the field.  So they could pass to the soft coverage and get a block from the other guy. When they sent 3 receivers wide, it would be 3 on 3 with only one playing tight.

That is the screen shot of the defensive alignment on the first TD. I am not sure what you are seeing, but the corners are not playing off

I'm sure its been mentioned in these 120 pages, but our pass defense scheme was awful.  I guess we were scared of the deep ball so we played soft on the corners.  They had a 5 yard gimme every play.  And somehow, even though we rarely blitzed, we had one on one all over the field.  So 5 receivers vs. 7 defenders, but it was always one on one.  Maybe our linebackers were covering the middle with no receivers in the area.

On offense we could score at will, but bogus penalties killed our drives in the first quarter and helped theirs.  Two bogus holding calls.  Then I had never seen a block below the waist called on the defense before.  We should have run more.  But Ewers was just out of sync.  Too much adrenaline.  Still had a chance if he could have executed on one of those last 4 plays.

Just not true first TD, you can see the CB on the LOS.

I think Hill will be really really good but he got caught up inside so many times this year it was frustrating, but it's what freshman linebackers do. Too much hype for the Alabama game.

Hill is going to be fine. Playing off-ball LB takes some time to get going. The difference in the bowl game might of been Trice. That guy got 2 Sacks, 8 pressures, 1 caused fumble, and 3 TFLs. He is a 1st round guy.. Texas has nobody to compare to that. We are talking about a true freshmen getting pressure. The lack of a quality pass rusher  has been one of the biggest glaring weaknesses of this team, since PK got to Austin. Hopefully, Trey Moore can fill that need next year and some of the younger guys start to grow up.

I don’t really understand the uproar about DeBoer’s management of that final drive. He couldn’t kneel it out with no time left. I guess he could have maybe had Penix take the snap and run around for 3 straight plays to lose yardage and waste time, but we are talking about 15-20 seconds they needed to burn so in all likelihood you are punting anyway. The punt itself feels way more riskier than any basic HB dive with two hands on the ball. I’ve never seen a team kneel down knowing they are having to give the ball back to their opponent at the end of a game, regardless of how much time may be left.

I guess the hindsight is the injury stopping the clock but I honestly can’t recall the last time I saw that scenario play out with the injury stopping the game clock and the opposing team declining the 10-second runoff.

DeBeor's management of the final minute was a disaster. Its the only reason Texas had a chance to win. He threw on 3rd down, before taking to FG to go up 2 scores. He ran the ball, instead of taking the knee

IF Penix and receivers are synced like they were on us, he surgically are up a zone. Big if. But put it on Washington unless Metachickens get some kinda pressure on him. If he has time, and as accurate as he as on us, they score. A lot. Mich won’t.

I was watching the Michigan game and something really stuck out to me. Bama lined the Rb out wide and the LB followed him. They motioned him back to the backfields. The Lb followed him back into the box. They snap it. RB runs his route to the flat. The Edge drops to the flat and Milroe skies the pass. He was totally confused. He assumed it was man and it was going to be a race between the RB and LB to the edge, based on the LB following the RB around the formation. You rarely see that in college football. NFL, yes. Michigan has had a DC from the NFL the last few years. They do some high level pass defense, mostly because they were built to beat OSU.

  16. If there is a question I would ask PK, it would be why wasnt Sweat and Murphy in the game on 4th and 1? Washington tried to get Texas to jump on 4th and 1. Called timeout. I am pretty sure DaBeor or someone noticed that Trill Carter and Broughton were at DT. He sent the offense back out and ran it for 2 yards.

This is it. The play was a fade all the way. It’s almost as if Mitchell were to look back at Ewers earlier than he might have tried to throw it on a line towards the pylon. Ewers was not looking at anyone else. Situational awareness needs to be better between them two.

I would bet this is was essentially a 1 man route. If AD was covered 1 on 1, throw the jump ball and give him a shot. I would have preferred to see this taken earlier, so the offense coudl see how Washington was playing him.

Bijan is a generational talent, so no, we can't compare him to anyone. An A performance is consistently getting what the OL blocks for you...that's exactly what Blue and Baxter did. They got what the O-line gave them, thus the A performance. But I will relent and say a B performance due to the fumbles, but they get an A for getting the yards the line blocked for them. That's what a good RB does. Bijan, again, was/is a freak who cannot be co.oared to anyone other than Ricky Williams. But yeah, B for the fumbles, an A for getting yards. Believe it or not, a lot of high level FBS RB's don't  get those kind of yards. Who cares if Washington helped? That's what the RB'S are supposed to do when given the opportunities. And their D-line was really solid, and Blue and Baxter still got their yards and TD'S.

getting what the OL blocks for you in college, gets you a job as an insurance salesman. Its not an A..
