  3. Scrolling through Gametime, I came across Wilder Woods with Abraham Alexander as the opener at a small venue in Dallas. Watched a couple youtubes of them; they seem intriguing. Most have like 100+ views on youtube. I can’t imagine them being well known. Price for the show is $71. I can’t imagine why the price would be much north of $30. Is there something I’m missing here? AA’s cover of Issac’s Wicked Game is intriguing.
  4. That’s great news. We dropped $1k per ticket to see PJ in OKC for the may 2020 show. Pandemic set it back to sept last year. Wife couldn’t go because of work. She’s been giving me shit about it ever since. In other news, cloud nothings and wavves are doing austin and ft worth on mon and tues june 26 and 27, respectively.
  5. Built to Spill put on a damn good show at Granada in Dallas tonight.

I’ve been looking for a copy of John Moreland & the Dust Bowl Soul’s Everything the Hard Way for a few years. Asked people in record stores in Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio and Seattle. Each time I got a nod and a “Yeah that’s a tough one” response. There’s a chat feature on discogs. I checked the chat for the album. A couple years ago, one user asked if anyone had a copy for sale. Another user said they had two copies. The user who had the copies is a record store in Tulsa. On a whim, I called the store and asked if they had a copy for sale. Turns out the guy who engineered the album works at the store. He sold me his personal copy. As he was packing it up to ship the bassist on the album, walked into the store. He was the guy on the cover flipping the bird. He recreated the album cover.

  13. When I worked for a software company in the early ‘00’s, they sent me to Bangalore India for three weeks. They had three guest houses with full-time houseboys that cleaned, cooked food, and ran the house. They slept on mats on the kitchen floor. It was a very spartan life. They were not hired for their cooking skills. The commute each day was a reminder of how great city planning is in the US and Europe. Each day, a driver would come to the guest house and pick us up. The morning commute was always interesting. A different route was taken each day based on traffic flow. Regardless, it was at least an hour in the morning. In any given intersection, we’d see a busload of people with people sitting on top of the bus and riding on the bumper by hanging onto the bus, a few delivery trucks, a few dozen auto-rickshaws, a permanent neighborhood made of tents and boxes, a cow or two standing in the road, miscellaneous cars and motorcycles, and a six year old girl wandering through the traffic. Pure chaos. The evening commute was after dark and took much longer. Eventually, I just slept on the evening commute back to the guesthouse every day. One weekend, I flew to New Delhi, stayed the night in Delhi, took a train to Agra, toured the taj mahal and other sites, took an overnight train to Jaipur, found a hotel at 3 AM, toured Jaipur the next day, took a train back to Delhi, and flew back to Bangalore. When I got off the train in Agra, there were lots of locals offering tourists tours of the taj mahal and other sites. I got a private tour of the taj, agra fort, mini taj, they took me to lunch and dinner, and a few shops to buy stuff. Cost for the tour was $20. I think I tipped them $40. I got this marble mosaic plate at one of the shops for $50. On a separate trip there, there was a terrorist attack on several hindu temples. None that were anywhere near me. On the second trip, we got food poisoning from the houseboys’ cooking. Mine kicked in on the flight from bangalore to frankfurt. I had to make a connection there on my flight back to dallas. I spent the entire flight from frankfurt to dallas in the airplane restroom. Flight attendants made me de-plane in a wheelchair. Wife surprised me by meeting me at the airport; I surprised her when I rolled up in a wheelchair . Memorable trips.
  14. We saw Loro as we headed out from Matt’s. Great patio. Looking forward to trying the Addison location although we’ll miss out on that great patio.
  15. That’s true. But we both work from home, and it’s good to have a reason to leave the house. My wife is VP of sales for an enterprise software company. The end of quarter is damn stressful for her. I thought a day trip to give her a mental break from her office would be healthy. We’re on a boot kick right now. We both saw a pair we liked from a boutique boot co. called Heritage on south congress. I like to try on boots to get the right fit; each brand has its own subtleties. Regardless, we both scored, and had a great day in the process. Again, thanks to all. The surl never disappoints.
  16. We picked up some boots at heritage on south congress and got tired of dealing with the masses. we headed over to matt’s for lunch before heading back up to Dallas. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations!
