  1. The lunch menu at Nido doesn’t really entice me. I suspect the view of the city is really nice though.
  2. We live a few miles north of Addison. Loro opened a location in Addison. Wife said “that’s the place I wanted to go to last weekend”. So, Loro is a no-go for the Austin trip.
  3. Loro looks like a great option.
  4. Wife and I are headed to Austin tomorrow from Dallas for some boot shopping. We haven’t been to Austin for years. Looking for recommendations for lunch. We’re pretty much down for any style but we can get good bbq and mexican in Dallas. A patio would be great (RIP Shady Grove).
  5. I assume the article is written unclearly. If not, this part could greatly affect diabetes treatment. I wear a sensor that connects with my phone and gives me my blood sugar in real time. There’s two wires that are under the skin. The sentence in the article doesn’t say the outlawing of devices placed under the skin only applies to when it’s employer mandated; it could be interpreted that any devices under the skin are outlawed. I’m confident that the brilliant minds of the republican representatives considered this and wrote legislation that couldn’t possibly be interpreted this way.
  6. Nah. There was only one hurricane on the starboard side. One nuke did the trick.
  7. I’ve had tix for this since Jan. Really looking forward to it. That week is gonna be busy for me. Sat - Houndmouth in Ft Worth wed - Einaudi at Bass Hall thurs - Built to Spill at Granada Fuck work. I got music to hear.
  8. The red light district is officially moving to the concert venue for the night
  9. Saw Chris Stapleton tonight at Choctaw Casino in Durant OK. So good. He played a bit of Freebird and transitioned to A Devil Named Music. That was pretty cool. Closed strong with Outlaw State of Mind. Seemed like a short set. Plenty of meat in his catalog was left on the bone. Wanted to hear Watch You Burn but he didn’t play it. His voice was so strong with his songs about love. I wanted to see how he performed a song about anger.

Short answer: yes. Per the googles, this is now called MoPop. We went to MoPop and saw the nirvana and pearl jam exhibits. They’re both badass. PJ exhibit is ending mid Apr. This was all funded by Paul Allen. Respect. KEXP is the radio station that promotes the local scene. They identify 12 bands each year and put on three shows with four bands playing each show. The third show was on the weekend I was in town. The show is free but I made a small donation. When I got there, I soon realized I was amongst high school kids and their parents. Awkward. That being said. They’re damn creative up there. Bands covered pop-grunge, disco, singer songwriter, and as best described as devo-esque performance art techo rock. The future of sound is in good hands.

Went to Seattle last weekend for my pilgrimage to the mother ship. Went to Easy Street Records in West Seattle. Known for the Mother Love Bone mural painted by Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament Procured vinyl We stayed in the Belltown area and stopped by a record store called Singles Going Steady. They specialize in punk. Talked to the owner, Byron, for a while. He said Mike McCready regularly drops in weekly on Tues or Thurs. We did the grunge site tour the day before and drove by the Paramount. Picked up the Nirvana album of their live show there. We went to the Sub Pop store in downtown-ish Seattle; it was underwhelming. I talked to the person working there, and he’s in a band called So Pitted. Apparently, he likes to make props and throw them into the audience during shows. He said one time he hit some guy in the head and was confused when the guy got pissed off. Doesn’t seem like a recipe for success to brain people at your show. But maybe it’s performance art that’s over my head. Anyway, Sub Pop has a great store at the Seattle airport. I blew the rest of my wad there on t shirts, turntable slipmats and other assorted grunge paraphernalia. Only thing stopping me and the wife was available space in our carry ons. Got the latest Built to Spill. I have tix to see them Dallas in Apr.
  12. First of all… username checks out. Wife and I went to Seattle last weekend. In preparation and following the weekend, we watched Singles. Yeah. We visited some sites in the movie, and I randomly stumbled across the park bench with the statue sitting on it while getting the wife some drip coffee. I learned something about the movie that I didn’t know. I always assumed the movie was filmed and released when grunge broke into mainstream. Wrong. Cameron Crowe wrote and directed the film well before nirvana and pearl jam released nevermind and ten. Filming wrapped in May ‘91. Ten and nevermind were released in aug and sept ‘91, respectively. The studio sat on the film for a year because they thought no one cared about Seattle. Then nirvana, PJ, AIC, and soundgarden exploded. The studio released the film in sept ‘92. sounds like teen spirit was originally going to be in the film but it became too expensive once it exploded. Crowe was prescient.
  13. Only thing missing was a “such as the woke”
  14. Gary Clark Jr. just announced a show in OKC. It just so happens to be the night before the Rival Sons / The Record Company show in OKC. Looks like I’ll skip the Rival Sons / Record Co show in Austin and do two nights in OKC instead. I gotta manufacture a reason to justify the trip to the wife.
  15. The Record Company is coming to Stubbs with Rival Sons on May 13. Trying to decide if I’m gonna go to Austin or OKC to see them. Wife’s been talking about getting some new boots at Heritage. Maybe I can swing some new boots for each of us and a concert for me.
  16. Saw Silversun Pickups tonight in Dallas. Felt uninspired. They played mostly newer songs. I believe I counted 5 or so songs from Pikul, Carnavas, and Swoon combined. Disappointed in the setlist. I get that the band gets bored playing the same songs for 15+ years but the new stuff needs to match or exceed the songs that are excluded. I counted three songs that were just plain bad. This is the second time I’ve seen them. Really enjoyed the first time. Won’t be seeing them again.
  17. Worked for me too. Ticket says they’re playing the debut album. Hope they include a few songs from Why do birds sing
  18. 4th&5 answered the question.
  19. Songkick lists Weezer coming to dallas and austin on june 6 and 8, respectively
  20. At this point, I have tickets for 15 concerts between Mar and end of June. My wife is beginning to audit my expenditures. I’m gonna have to find creative ways to procure them. Haha. I’m in on the femmes in Dallas. They hold a special place in my heart from high school.
  21. March shows Silversun Pickups at Dallas HOB Chris Stapleton at Choctaw Casino Gonna be in Seattle the weekend New Order and the Rev are in Dallas. So no go on them. Tempted to see Buckcherry in Oklahoma on Mar 31 but I’ve got tix for Houndmouth in Ft Worth on Apr 1. May be biting off more than I chew with those drives from north Dallas.
