Oregon is already ranked above Texas by the CFP committee and just added a 24 point win over a ranked team. They are playing an undefeated, top 4 team in the CCG while Texas is playing a team that is ranked because the committee has to get to 25 teams.

Regardless of where one falls on whether a 12-1 Oregon should be ranked over a 12-1 Texas, everyone should understand that a 12-1 Oregon absolutely will be ranked over a 12-1 Texas in the final rankings. There's no rooting interest in the Pac 12 title game unless you think one is a better potential matchup than the other, or if you think one of Dubs or Puddles is a superior mascot (it's Dubs bitch).

If Bama wins out, you think the committee would pick Oregon over Texas despite Texas being better in every comparable statistic and also having a common opponent that has Texas whipping them?  In this scenario, the committee would pass up Texas to put Oregon in when Texas will have a double digit win on the road against another CFP team in Bama?  It doesn’t matter if Oregon beats Washington.  Both teams will be 1 loss teams.  In this scenario, CFP committee will have to say “Yes, we left out Texas who has a better strength of schedule, beaten more ranked teams, has the best win of the year against another CFP team… but Oregon wins the eye test”.  That isn’t happening man.  If Texas beats okie lite by 20+ points…. The more chaos, the more it favors Texas.

Then there is also no way a 12-1 Oregon should get in over 12-1 Texas.

Exactly.  Those rankings came out halfway through the season.  Let the conference championship games play out and let them the. decide with an entire body of work.  They will have to then pick between two teams with equal record, both conference champions.  One with a top 10 strength of schedule, best win of the year, beating 4 ranked opponents, and finally playing and winning big.  When the talking heads pull up those graphics on tv showing Texas and Oregon’s resume, you tell me which way all those committee members will lean.  Oregon was beating overrated Utah and Colorado teams when they were “looking” good.  Klatt has already jumped Texas ahead of FSU in his latest rankings.  This will work itself out if Texas wins big and if any of Washington losing, FSU losing or Bama winning out plays out.  The only scenario where Texas gets left out is the undefeated stay undefeated.

I'm sitting on the fence between both camps.  I think there is a decent chance the committee doesn't have the balls to exclude the SEC and will have to let Bama in if they win the conference.  If that happens, I hope the discussion would be "well, we can't exclude Texas if we include Bama, let's take another look at FSU and Oregon.....".  I think Bama winning is a long shot, but that scenario absolutely gives us a better shot than if Georgia wins (where there is a 100% guarantee they get a spot while also making our win over Bama less valuable).

edit:  misread your post.  Looks like we agree mainly.

Most years yes.  However, can you name one out of conference marquee win for the SEC?  Missouri beating K-state on a 60 yard game winning FG is their best win as a conference.  A team we beat with our back up QB.  LSU and Florida lost to FSU.  Florida lost to Utah.  Bama lost to Texas.  Aggy lost to Miami.  Auburn lost to New Mexico State.  UGA and Bama are CFP worthy and the rest of the league is spares.  If the committee decides to put a 1 loss Bama team, they will have to state why they jumped Texas.  A team they lost to at home by 10 in a game where they were dominated on the line of scrimmage.  If they let Bama in, they will have to also put Texas in.  There is a reason Bama is behind us in the rankings despite them “looking” better through mid season until this last week.

  4. The committee has a guidelines they apparently follow.

    Conference champions

    head to head

     common opponents

    eye tesr

    - There is absolutely no way a 1 loss Bama team is going to jump Texas if they beat UGA.  The committee would then be telling all of college football that head to head doesn’t count.  None of the other teams have beaten a CFP team and they would be leaving out Texas that has already proven to have beaten one in this scenario.  Bama needing a fucking miracle to beat a TERRIBLE auburn team is also going to shut down the Bama is better now talk.  Bama and Oregon winning out creates chaos with nearly multiple 1 loss teams.  UGA, Bama, Oregon, Washington, tOSU would all have 1 losses in that scenario.  This favors Texas in ng opinion.  We just need to throttle okie lite.

  5. There is absolutely no justification for a 1 loss Oregon team to be ahead of a 1 loss Texas team.  Their only justification is eye test.  Nothing about their wins, quality of schedule, or even eye test are better than Texas.  This committee is going off their wins against a 4-7 Colorado team and a very overrated Utah team they played without Cam Rising.  Utah’s signature win this year is a bowl ineligible Florida team.

The only scenario where we are fucked is if all the undefeated teams stay undefeated.  We really need Bama to win out and beat UGA.  I cannot imagine the committee leaving us out and letting a 1 loss Bama team we beat by double digits in.  And make no mistake about it.  We would smoke Bama again.  We are a terrible match up for them.

the Gator collapse last night was critical to our chances. It's up to the frikkin Louisville Cardinals to save Texas.   Sad to think that the last 75 seconds of PREVENT DEFENSE vs. OU may have cost a national championship.  But then again, the struggle vs Cougar High and the super lucky win vs. KSU, being down at home to Wyoming and Rice -- these are not good marks on the report card, despite winning them all.

We were playing our backup QB with half the roster injured and still beat a ranked KSU team.

  7. The only reason Texas was ranked where they were was because of eye test.  Well Bama needed a miracle to beat a 5-6 team.  FSU barely scraped by a 5-6 team.  Washington needed a game winning FG to bear a 4-7 team.  We just beat a team by 50 that the team in front of us almost to.  Texas needs to do the same thing next week and the committee will have a hard time argument to make when we have the better SoS, the best win of any team, best resume and winning the eye test.  What then?

  8. I cannot wait to watch this train wreck.  They fire a guy mid season all bc Texas is having a good season.  Without any plan they toss some big names out there and guys coaching teams in the play off hunt.  Why anyone would leave their current winning program to go to that dump.  Boosters fighting with the AD and I can bet you those coaches are checked out.  Then they plan to hire their DL coach with no coaching history, no schemes, no network of coaches to hire.  I imagine the coordinators in Durkin and Petrino would bail instead of hanging on to this sinking ship, but no one else wants them.  Great idea aggy.  Fire the head man and keep the yes man that cannot coach either side.  Please keep Durkin.  Dude just gave up 42 points.  Please keep Addazio too.

  9. You know, elite athletes are just dying to play for Mark Stoops!  What would make this even better is if he hires his brother Mike Stoops on that already terrible defense.  All those 5 stars and gave up almost half a hundred today.

  10. Lmao.  So they hire a guy that has to keep the current staff and help keep a roster together of guys that can’t stay disciplined.  This feels like Charlie Strong after Mack Brown in certain ways although.  I fully expect an exodus of players after they try to instill a disciplined culture.  That or they will continue to let the mercenaries run the locker room and nothing will change with the same staff.

  11. Man finding elite DTs in the portal is going to be tough.  Those guys usually don’t leave.  I think Texas will probably get some solid depth pieces like Carter and put their efforts in developing Bledsoe, Bryant, Mitchell.  Mitchell and Bledsoe have NFL bodies and Bledsoe may be the pound for pound the most athletic specimen on the team.  Dude is doing back flips at 280 lbs.  I don’t think we will get this type of production again for a while from DTs.  Pretty special season for them.  But I think we will have a good DLine next year regardless of portal candidates.  Sorrell, Burke, Bledsoe, Mitchell, Tapp, Finkley, Vasek along with incoming freshman are solid pieces.

  12. Guys, we got the best and starting WR from a team that won their 2nd national championship in a row last year that then proceeded to catch 10 TDs from a loaded QB room and was part of a 11-1 team.  I think we will have no issues finding an elite WR.  Hell… the first person I’m calling is Zachariah Branch and asking him if he’d like to showcase his talents in the SEC on a championship caliber team while living in ATX and making NiL.

  13. Sweat is going to go first round and probably closer to the 1 than 32.  He’s playing out of his mind.  There’s been 3 interior DL that have been dominant since 2010 on my opinion at Texas.  Malcolm Brown, Poona Ford, and Sweat.  Sweat has the size these GMs drool over and his pass rush ability and ability to deflect passes is very good.  Dude is being double teamed and is tossing these guys around.  Props to Sweat and this coaching staff.  It’s so good to see potential actually be reached at Texas again.
