  1. Apparently, Henley had kept approximately 6.000 pages of evidence under wraps by previously invoking the attorney-client privilege.  When he waived the privilege midway through the trial, all this new evidence came to light, and apparently there were emails in the docs that cast doubt on Henley's claim that his handwritten lyrics had been stolen.  The judge found that Henley had "manipulated" the DA.

Frankly, Henley pulling a stunt like this does not surprise me.

  2. Most critics disliked it, it's nowhere near the best Will Ferrell movie, and it needed a different title, but I will watch Semi Pro anytime it comes on.

"My God.  What the fuck is that?  It's incredible.

    It's called fondue.

    Fon-what?

Fon-Due.  Three different cheeses, melted.  That's what you're tasting.  Gargonzola, muenster, and cottage."

and if we're feeling like it we may even be able to make a pitstop at either Neuschwanstein Castle or Linderhoff Palace.

I definitely recommend trying to see at least one or both if you have the time.

so has anybody visited Mont St. Michel? i'm not even sure how to do this as far as timing - like, do you have to study the tides and figure out when you can even get there?? :P

No, there's a road that goes from the mainland to the island.  My understanding is you can either take a shuttle bus or walk to the island.

I visited many years ago, i.e., 40+ years ago as a kid.  But a friend went there within the last few years, and what I said above is based on what he told me after he got back from his trip.

My understanding is that the place has gotten a lot more touristy over the years, but it's still definitely a worthy visit if you're in that part of France.

Yeah they're talking 5'-8'.  That's feet, not inches.

The entire mountain at Mammoth is shut down today.  I saw a wind speed reading of 90+ mph late yesterday at the summit.  The McCoy livecam is completely gray.  Howard Sheckter is saying the mountain might get 7.5 feet by the time the system blows through.

  5. This thread now pertains to my interests because, after living only near Costco stores for the past 20 years, I'll be moving to a location that has both a Sam's and a Costco in close proximity.  The two stores are within a half mile of each other.  Hell, there's even a Wal-Mart close by, too, even though I have vowed to never step foot in a Wal-Mart again.

Time to get the Sam's Club membership, I guess, even though I'm not a fan of the Walton family.

Isn't Vallejo where the dipshit cops accused the kidnap victim in American Nightmare?

Yup.  Like I said, VPD is in basically in a class of its own when it comes to incompetence and general fuckuppery.

Apparently the city just paid the Marine about $300K and it wasn't the first time they've settled a lawsuit against the cop. Between he and his brother they've cost the taxpayers of Vallejo over half a million.

The Vallejo PD is in a special class almost by itself when it comes to issues involving excessive force, other types of civil rights violations, incompetence, etc.

ok... one of the things very high on my list for this trip is visiting some real-by-god castles 🏰 😊

Germany...Neuschwanstein would be the best candidate (based on route) but it isn't really what i had in mind - too 'young' lol. i really wanted to visit Heidelberg castle...but i want to enjoy our time in Strasbourg and keeping in mind all the advice not to try to see too much haha...i don't think we're gonna fit it in.

France...i think we'll be able to see some ancient ruins in the Brest area... but i'm also looking at a full day trip to Loire valley to visit two or three spectacular castles. this would be your standard tour bus trip, with a stop for lunch in Blois. we've got four days in Paris so don't mind spending a day on this. we're not interested in renting a car at all (once the family leaves) so doing it on our own is out. just wondering if someone has done one of these, with what company, and how it was overall? 🤔

Italy...they don't seem to feature as much there, at least near Florence/Rome. not nearly as big or opulent as the French palaces.

i will also research Ireland as i'm sure they have many, but we're gonna be pretty tired by then and wanting to spend time with our friends...🤔

Go to Neuschwanstein.  Just do it.

  9. Wow -- only 57.  Way too young -- just like his sister.  For some reason, I thought he was older.

I first became acquainted with Flat Duo Jets through the Athens, GA -- Inside Out album.  They always seemed both derivative and original to me at the same time -- putting their own crazy spin on rockabilly.

    RIP, Mr. Romweber.

McCartney has said that Pet Sounds spurred them to make Sgt Peppers. I think Rubber Soul was an influence on Wilson making Pet Sounds.

If The Beach Boys were a real band, they’d be pretty easy to call the greatest American band.

Pet Sounds was in part a response or reaction to Revolver.  Sgt. Pepper was in part a response or reaction to Pet Sounds.

Thanks everyone, I definitely figured we were trying to pack too much into a small window of time, so we'll be cutting out some other stops.  We're planning to go in late May so hopefully the weather will be good. Another friend of mine yesterday was telling me you also have to jump on the park reservations really early since they fill up fast, did you all have that issue?

Maybe a Moab/Grand Canyon trip is more realistic for us, and we can do Colorado and New Mexico some other time.

If you want to hit Zion or Arches, you definitely need to book reservations as early as possible.  Given that you're only about 3 months out at this point, you may run into issues with certain days or time slots being already booked up.  If I were you, I would nail down plans and check on reservations ASAP if you want to hit those two parks.  I don't believe the other 3 Utah NPs have been placed on the reservation system yet, but consult each park's website to be sure if you're thinking about hitting any of them as well.  (See my post above about Canyonlands NP.  I'll reiterate that if you go to Moab, you should do all you can to find time to hit the Island in the Sky part of Canyonlands NP in addition to Arches.)

Also, be aware that Moab can start getting pretty hot in late May.
