    Anyone else having hacker problems?

Yeah both my tv feed and the online stream are down.  Earlier in the broadcast they did mention some technical problems with Ernie and Immelman being cut off so maybe it's related.

German Marquez threw an immaculate inning yesterday.

Yeah I was watching that game and to be honest, didn't realize it until the next inning when the announcers talked about it.  It was the Rockies feed as well.  I had bet Rockies and was feeling not good because Marquez had been pounded in the first couple innings.  I think he gave up like 8 hits in the first 3 innings before the immaculate inning.

I am a total novice at miles grinding but also travelling to Europe. I hope a few of you will take the time to offer me your advice.

I married a Chicago girl so our miles are on United. It's her Mileage Plus account and we currently have the Chase United Explorer card and 500k miles. We are on our second year of Pre-Check. Our kids are about to be juniors in HS and we want to take a Europe trip next summer. I'd like to do Austria/Germany/Hungary (seeing an F1 Grand Prix to cap off a trip would be awesome for me but meh for the spouse) but I think the wife is looking more toward Great Britain and maybe northern France. Using the fare finder on the Mileage Plus website is a drag. We did Hawaii several years ago and they would increase and decrease the mileage cost of the flights by the day for no reason but to sucker me into purchasing. Is there a partner that will take UA miles that may be easier to use or offer a better experience? We live in Austin.

All of the Star Alliance partners will take United miles.  Lufthansa should hit all of your destinations, but so will United if you're going to the larger cities/airports in those areas.  If you are just looking for free flights whether in coach or business, using miles, Star Alliance partners are fine and may offer more options.  If you are looking to buy coach and upgrade using miles, Star Alliance partners can be a total PITA and expensive with the "co pay" on certain fares.  If you are looking for "ease of use," upgrading does not fit that bill.  Regardless, unless you're going to a destination that is not served at all by United, it's almost always gonna be easier to use your miles on a United flight, not a code share, not a partner.

The only time I would use a partner would be if the partner route is more efficient and I'm on a  time crunch.   For example, LAX to Frankfurt on Lufthansa is a direct flight over the top of the world, ~11 hours.  On United, you would have to either fly to SFO and then over the top to Frankfurt, adding at least 2.5 hours and more like 4; or, stop in Chicago or the east coast, which adds over 6 hours when all is said and done.  Flying out of Austin, though, I don't think you would be faced with that scenario.

As I've mention before, the configuration is key.  A 12,000 arena is fine if it's configured right.  The FEC is horribly configured for basketball.

I personally see them doing somewhere between 10-12000.  Keep in mind this thing wil be basketball focused but used for other events too like concerts, UT functions, graduations, etc.  So it realistically can't be less than 10,000.

Allen Fieldhouse seats 16,300. The Erwin Center seats 16,734.  An arena doesn't need to have a small seating capacity to be a great place to watch basketball.

Its not the number of seats in a gym, its how they are configured in relationship to the court..

All correct.  If we want a good basketball experience, it needs to be a basketball arena, not a special events center.

  5. CSB buddy of mine asked me and a couple other buddies to come to his first kid's baby shower, cuz his wife is...well you know.  We laughed and laughed and finally he told us OK, there's already gonna be a bunch of good food there (we knew his wife was good at that) so I'll sneak in a cooler of beer.  It was like a Weds night or something so we said what the hell.  There was probably 2 cases of decent beer there.  Yada yada yada, second kids baby shower, we weren't invited.  To this day, that's the only baby shower I've been to.

Check engine light? Go to Auto Zone or O'Reilly and check it out. Google the code and see if its serious. Sometimes it could be something so simple like a loose gas cap.

OP, what dealer have you been going to? Specifically.

Or buy an OBD scanner yourself.  I got a cheap one off of Amazon for less than $20.  Googling the code told me it was something with the emissions that was probably a loose gas cap.  I reset the code and it never came back.

You can get make-specific scanners for less than $200 which appear to be much more advanced in the info obtained and reset capabilities, but honestly I've never tried one.

I can't believe how many of you weirdos ruin perfectly good melon by putting salt on it. I grew up on Llano homegrown Black Diamond melons of perfect sweetness, and only once did I ever try it with salt. That shit is nasty.

Actually, growing up I was taught to put salt on fruit (watermelon, pineapple, others that slip my mind at the moment) supposedly only when said fruit is of lower quality, usually not sweet enough.

  9. Wife and I did both Galapagos and Easter Island last year.  I thought they were both worth it and neither take a lot of time.  You can do Easter Island in basically three days, we got in on Thursday around noon did a half day tour, did an all day tour on Friday and a sunrise tour on Sat before flying out.  If you don't want to be so rushed you can add a day.  Pretty much the only flight is LATAM from Santiago.  I hate LATAM now...my status is with Star Alliance so we just paid for upgrades.  Coach was like $600 and business was only like $800 so we said what the hell.  On the return, my wife's seat was busted and could not lay flat, which means I got the busted seat and they gave me a $200 voucher.  Trying to cash in that voucher was damn near impossible.  LATAM has no actually offices anywhere in the US, everything has to be done over the phone or via email, not even any of the desks at any major US airport can handle turning voucher into cash.  And they liked to play the "no habla" game when things got heated.  Bitches.

Galapagos same deal, you only need a few days.  You're right, finding somewhere in either location to take advantage of your hotel status will be challenging if not impossible.  But you're going to want to stay in a major city before jumping off to either location, we stayed in Quito for a couple days and Santiago for a couple days, both are very cool cities to visit and definitely have options for American chains.  I think SA in general is under-rated as a travel destination.  Didnt' run into many norte americanos there.  Be prepared, it's a 9.5 hour flight from Santiago to Houston.

That, and then there's the fact that for a decent-sized neighborhood, holding say 100 adults, there's already 10 active addicts living right there in the 'hood.  Doing erratic shit, driving around schnockered, diddling kids, what have you.

And surfing the surl.  That deserves it's own mention, more than "what have you."

I wonder what my parents did to fight boredom before the internet.

I asked my 18 brothers and sisters and they don’t know either.

Back in the day, it went "I wonder what my parents did to fight boredom before cable tv."

I personally don't find this a lame joke.  To this day, whenever I meet someone who has 3 or more siblings, I say "what's the matter your folks couldn't afford cable?"

Why is a criminal record called a "rap" sheet or even why is "rap" used to describe being guilty? Is it some derivative or "rep"?

RAP was originally derived as an acronym for Record of Arrests and Prosecutions.  Depending on the jurisdiction and its law enforcement/criminal justice policies and procedures, the modern RAP sheet may include or exclude some arrests, prosecutions, verdicts, etc., but generally still remains true.

Technically it is possible for an individual to have a RAP sheet and not be guilty, but in common parlance, a small number of arrests with no guilty verdicts does not 'qualify' as a RAP.

    30 minutes to make breakfast.
    10 minutes eating breakfast.

    What’s for lunch?

Just listened to rob manfred on mlb network talking to the guys, and he basically just said the next change is going to be “the game returning to the game we grew up watching with more balls in play”. The follow up question was, “so no more shifts?” And he said it’s something we’re gonna have to talk about.

Shifts being outlawed are right up there with universal DH. It’s just a matter of time. I don’t love it, but i don’t hate it either. But this rule doesn’t get changed if guys like Bryce Harper could beat the shift more frequently. That’s what makes it kind of funny to me

If they want more balls in play then simultaneously deaden the ball while lowering the seams.

And while you're at it, make the ball bigger 🤣

Luxury tax for one. They don’t really need him either. Seager & Turner don’t fucking suck.

Yeah, gonna be expensive.  But...Turner went to the Dodgers as a utility player before becoming the regular 3b and has played 1b, so an infield of Turner, Muncy, Machado and Seager seems pretty sporty.  Taylor and Bellinger in the OF.  Seems like Puig and Pederson are always on the verge of being traded, Utley retiring, Forsythe underwhelming at best and I think his contract expires.  But yeah...gonna be expensive.

This is what I was looking for.  LIkely not to sign long term in LA.

I know that's the narrative, but why not?  Too expensive in the long term?  Roster too crowded?
