Apropos of nothing, but I'm curious:  when someone transfers within a company from the Bay area to (say) Austin, do they have to take a pay cut?

It's been addressed by a couple of posters already, but the answer is-- yes it does happen, depending on the company, or even the position or job code within that company.

Here’s a screenshot but I could look but the article is long as fuck:

I don’t know any liberal Californians that want to goto Texas unless they can’t afford it here

That talks about desires, but I didn't see anything about actions.  I'm interested in seeing if there are actually any studies of people who have already moved, that would support the assertion that "it's mostly Republicans fleeing Democratic states."

And it's not so much "can't afford to live in California" but more like "can buy more for their money" in Texas.  I'm an engineer/business guy in high tech in Austin, most of the California transplants I know are tech workers that have relocated, often for the same company but switching from bay area offices, to Texas ones, to make their money stretch further.  And like I said, not a one of them would be classified as conservative or Republican.

Could be?  Is there a link to back that up?

I know lots of Californians that have moved to Texas.  Not a single one of them could be described as "Republican."

Self reflection turns into self loathing and is a constant, tedious issue on this board, this discussion included. We’re all well aware of the shortcomings of Texas. This isn’t that thread. An assistant coach sleeping with a trainer is a horrible equivocation for numerous coaches at ATM who have run the spectrum from damned near slave trading to killing players to being fired for flagrantly racist shit to IRS scams to punching an opposing aging coach with MS in the aftermath of a game. It’s absurd.

You also cited a player issue that one time. I didn’t even mention players in the litany of shit that runs through ATM. That’s a non sequitur and a reach.

I was going for a fun recounting, on the ATM thread, of the many terrible hires they’ve had without having to see it lawyered up with the “well, ackshually, we also did blah blah blah”.

You're obviously a hoot at parties.

What you posted were reaches by comparison to damn near anything mentioned about ATM.

Agree 100%.  If you couldn't tell by the wording, I was just having some fun.  I think it's okay to poke fun at our own program.  I don't take myself or UT sports overly seriously.  It's entertainment-- it's supposed to be fun.

We don’t always have to go through self-reflection.

But I disagree with this 100%.  The capability for self-reflection is one of the prime differentiators between Longhorns, and ags.  It's a tremendous weakness for them, that they take themselves far too seriously, and are completely incapable of self-reflection.

  6. We've had our own issues, like an assistant coach who got involved with a chubby trainer, Case McCoy's video escapades, and of course Ol Freak Nasty.

But at least none of them were murderers.

I have an uncle that always drinks French beer on July 4th to acknowledge their contributions.

I appreciate the sentiment but good lord, why would anyone subject themselves to some of the worst beer on the planet, when the French make the best wine?

I don’t care if this is just for Austin. But shit is getting real in Kansas. Toto go home! not sure where I should put this.

(this guy may be my favorite of the storm chasers this year—he got incredible photos outside of Canadian at the start of the wildfires.)

The  all-encompassing-non-Texas-weather thread would be appropriate, but anyway, hope you're staying safe and don't end up in Oz.  Unless you want to go to Oz.

Cochon is a good choice.  My favorite for dinner right now is Peche, and that's a good spot for oysters as well.

In the CBD, Seaworthy has a good selection of oysters.  I think they have a happy hour deal, and Superior may as well.  Have not eaten at Superior but have heard good things from others who have been.

Superior is definitely good and has decent happy hour specials including $1.25 oysters.

And I am in favor of sunlight after work. Pick one.

Yup I prefer DST but either way my vote is for sticking to one or the other and not ever changing again.

And yet, this big bad program moving around would be met with a collective yawn when it comes what they add to the B1G or what the SEC is losing outside of a mindless army of yokels.

Oh yeah, I'm not asserting that it would matter to anyone other than the ags.

  12. The B1G would gladly accept TAMU for the same reasons the SEC did-- access to Texas recruiting and Texas televisions without bringing in a threat to the established powers of the conference.  This rumor is almost certain to be completely false, but it's also plausible, which is why people are still discussing it.

  13. If I didn't know better I'd be hopeful it would lead to turmoil and dysfunction and RBR losing momentum and losing races, but we just aren't that lucky.
