  1. Facing the inevitable Cy Young winner in game 1 of the Wild Card isn't a great start to the playoffs. On the bright side, the last time Skubal started at Minute Maid, he lost 0-4 and Hunter Brown threw 7 shutout innings with 5 hits and 0 walks.
  2. I'm not Catholic, but I wouldn't mind owning one of these.
  3. Braves walk it off vs KC, so both them and the Tigers lose. Tomorrow's games will matter for seeding. Judge had 5 strikeouts today, so that's neat.
  4. That list is real interesting. Hader is above average and at least top 10 overall as a closer. He has the best strikeout rate among the group. Only 4 blown saves, but we know he's also blown some tie situations in extras that don't show up in that stat, although some weren't his fault when he was allowed to stretch for 2 innings. Royals closer MacArthur has a 72% save rate with nearly a 5 ERA. Not scary at all, and a nice opponent to have in the first round (fingers crossed) Tigers have a good closer in Foley, I hope they draw the 5th seed. Guardians have the best closer in the league with Clase, and he might even get some Cy Young votes this year, but their starters will give up a lot of runs before you get to him. Do the Orioles even have a new closer? Kimbrel was released after sucking for most of the season. Yankees Clay Holmes is at 69% save rate with 13 blown saves, which is awful. He shouldn't scare anyone. Not too much to worry about, the Astros probably have the best overall pitching staff in the AL playoffs, which should give them an edge in any of these matchups.
  5. I think they both go 1-1 to finish and we get KC. A triple A Tigers team should be able to win at least 1 vs the White Sox, and I doubt KC is going to pull 2 wins out of their ass. They have been a below .500 team since the Astros played them with most of their wins coming against non-playoff teams. They are in a slump, so I hope we draw them.
  6. Twins lose and are eliminated, Tigers win and take the 5th spot, KC loses falls to 6. 2 games left, but it would appear likely that the Astros will be hosting KC next week. Probably the best matchup possible, and then Cleveland in the second round. Orioles and Yankees should get to duke it out on the other side, looks like a great setup for the stros.
  7. Tried to find a good shot of the drawing scene, and this meme popped up. You're welcome Immamac
  8. Whoa, that's quite a trade. New starting 5 for the Knicks looks interesting. Not sure how they will do under Thibs, but they should be in contention for the 2nd seed behind the Celtics again. Still not enough to overcome the Celtics at full strength.
  9. Don't you mean, there is a massive hurricane about to hit the Southeast, and Trump's people decided to move up the rallies a few days to avoid the storm?

  12. Nice, taking the lead and they got Kirby over 50 pitches in the third inning.
  13. I think that's code for "I want to be the deciding vote for Majority, and get some specific commitee/chair appointments for it." It's like the annoying, amoral Manchin type of politics, but Dems can't be upset when a guy does it from a deep red state they would never win.
  14. Pete sits down for a long and deep conversation with Ezra Klein covering all sorts of topics related to politics. Very interesting discussion between them, and it's amazing to see how Pete is well prepared and thoughtful in every reply. I really hope that one day he's in a race for a higher profile office, he's such an authentic and empathetic person, truly a rare breed in politics these days.
  15. Fuck yeah! Enjoy your sombrero JP!

  19. ESPNs David Schoenfield graded every teams season. Only 4 teams got an A- or higher (Cleveland, Milwaukee, Philly and KC). Here's the Astros blurb: Houston Astros: B The dynasty is bending, but it's not yet broken. The Astros looked lost the first couple of months of the season and fell 10 games behind Seattle on June 18. The rotation was hobbled and those who were healthy weren't pitching well. The offense was scuffling. Luckily, Houston was in the AL West and the Mariners and Rangers failed to meet expectations. The Astros righted the ship, even with Kyle Tucker injured, as Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown got hot, Alex Bregman broke out from a slow start and Yordan Alvarez kicked into Superman mode (.347/.443/.648 from June through August). This isn't the same powerhouse team that won the World Series with 106 wins in 2022, but it's good enough to win it all. Tucker is back, and the Astros are 9-0 in games that deadline acquisition Yusei Kikuchi has started. They will be seeking their eighth straight trip to the ALCS. I'm not betting against them.
  20. 19! 19 hits! Ah Ah Ah!
