  1. Anyone want to guess how many "Balk-offs" have been recorded since 1914? The answer may surprise you... Fun facts: link
  2. I'm a big fan of Highland Park 25, but at $450 a bottle, I rarely get it.
  3. Walked 1, and got him on a double play. Still a no no through 5 for Framber!
  4. Wow, 9 up, 9 down so far. Looking good so far!
  5. I'm not quite sure exactly how much JV has been paid this year, but it appears to be about 28-29m. That said, assuming the 2025 option vests, the Astros will be paying right around 40m in total for his 3 years of service. I think the cap breakdown should look something like this: 2023: $0 2024: 22.66m 2025: 17.5m Mets: 2023: $43.3m 2024: 20.66m 2025: 17.5m
  6. A lot of 2023 salary won't hit the salary cap for the Astros, which means it won't hurt them with Luxury Taxes this year. Crane is clearly sensitive to that, so it's kind of like trading those 2 prospects for 54m+ in salary that's paid by someone else, and on the Mets' salary cap instead of the Astros. The Mets already paid 29m for him this year in salary, they are covering the rest, and a bunch of next year's salary. If I'm reading the details right, it sounds like they will send more money in 2025 if that option vests, which might make this even cheaper for the Astros. Getting JV for 2+ years for about 38 million (possibly less) is incredibly cheap if he stays healthy.
  7. I do not see any active players on the roster with 35, so he should be good. Although I think he should change it to 54, since that's how many millions the Mets are going to pay him to play for the Astros.
  8. ESPN Article and grades for the trade: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/38109343/mlb-trade-deadline-2023-justin-verlander-mets-astros-grades
  9. Yay JV is back! What awesome birthday news! Time to get more drunk! Wooooooo!
  10. Just setting up for the triple play...
  11. Is it too late to get Korey Lee back? I think we do have a spot open at C.
  12. Wait, are there people here who think Maldonado won't be on the team next year??? Y'all are gonna be real sad this off-season, lol...
  13. I had no idea so many people from Korey Lee's family posted here.
  14. Replay overturned this out and gave the Guardians the run here. The tag was slightly late, and the runner had to slide through his legs to get to the plate:
  15. Eh, not bad. Never cared about the Marlins, still don't.
  16. Interesting trade prospective article on The Athletic today. This is a nice cross section view of the top 10 teams by position, and just look at the greens on some of these teams... I think this sort of assessment from stats and numbers is a bit blind to the Astros real issues, as it's not a Catcher that they need, they just need to start Diaz and bench Maldy. Although, it's hard to believe that there is a statistically worse starting catcher out there besides Maldonado with his .171 average, but apparently there is. Some of the names they mention that may be traded before the deadline are Joe Kelly, Tommy Phan, Lance Lynn, Dylan Cease, Lucas Giolito, Blake Snell, Eduardo Rodriguez, Marcus Stroman, Jordan Montgomery, Michael Lorenzen, Mark Canha, Randall Grichuk and Tim Anderson. It seems most sports writers think the White Sox are going to have a firesale this week. https://theathletic.com/4717171/2023/07/26/trade-deadline-deals-contenders-mlb/ If we take a look at FanGraphs’ projected production at each position, a little color-coding can help us readily identify the biggest weaknesses on the top 10 teams by end-of-season projected wins. Just look for the red: They suggest SP Michael Lorenzen of the Tigers would be a good target for the Astros. He's on a 1 year 8.5m contract, but could probably be a cheap option to replace Bielak in the rotation. If Yordan is healthy, then I would hope the outfield is set with him, Chas and Tucker. Trading for Luis Robert would be a bit overkill, and cost a lot of capital, so a starting pitcher on the cheap is probably the best way to go. The list they link HERE has a good comparison of the available pitchers, and he's rank 6 on their Stuff+ rating. Probably one of the more reasonable options aside from Stroman.
  17. Booker and Luka will both get even bigger contracts than Brown when they are eligible again. It's just how the NBA works, a revolving door of stupid deals that are even stupider than the last. The Celtics overpaid to keep their window open for 2 more years, which is when Tatum is a free agent. Brown's estimated salaries:
  18. The problem with Altuve coming back is that Dusty will move Dubon to DH and Diaz to the bench, cause we need Dubon to bat second.
  19. they should review that, his foot came up
  20. .171 for Maldy now! Only way to go is up!
