Surly never disappoints

You really can't go wrong. Interlaken or Luzern as a base is ideal imo but obviously St. Moritz, Zermatt, etc... are great as well. You have a good plan. Zurich is time wasted in Switzerland.

Don't sleep on Italian Switzerland. Specifically the town of Lugano is really, really great. A little mini version of Lake Como (that's like 5 minutes from actual Lake Como).

Did both Interaken and Luzern in March and preferred Luzern. More of an actual city with museums and restaurants and shit. Interlaken is gorgeous but felt overrun with tourists. You might run into @satyanash though because Yash Chopra filmed a bunch of his movies in the area.

Bumpity bump simply because it appears the wife and I will be going there for about a week in September, so I'm looking for recs in all regards (sites, hotels, eats, what to avoid, etc.).  I've been there once before as a teenager a million years ago, but we didn't spend a ton of time in Swiss-land before heading south into Italy on that occasion, so it's going to be like seeing it again for the first time for me.  Wife has never been there.

We're pretty wide open in terms of where to go and what to see.  Mrs. Spackler is more interested in seeing the Alps, checking out mountain villages, doing some hikes, etc., than she is in seeing cities like Zurich or Lucerne, although I wouldn't rule out the idea of spending a day in someplace like Bern or Zurich if it's worth doing so.  My initial thoughts are to use Interlaken as a base for at least a few days to explore the Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Murren, etc. areas.  Zermatt is a definite possibility as well.

Learn me on Switzerland, oh Surlyites.  This thread is helpful as is the other one about "Switzerland in the summer," but more info is always good.  TIA

You can see from my pics I love the Jungfrau region. I've been several times in the last 10 years and I'd go back tomorrow if my girlfriend hadn't demanded SE Asia this summer.

We like staying in Wengen....no cars and very quiet.

Recommend getting the Swiss Travel Pass. We did the second class and just got on whatever train we wanted without any issues. Also, the Swiss trains are fucking on time.

Seen recently in a line at the Zurich airport.  So which one of you was shipping his bicycle back home?

Based on the pictures on the thread, it appears none of you actually met a stranger over there.

Thanks for the great info in the thread.

Going to do Bavaria (will post questions in the Germany thread) and the Swiss Alps as part of my younger one's HS grad trip this summer. It'll be me, the wife, and the boys (21 and 18), first family trip to Europe and I haven't been in over 25 years. We're not big city, Michelin starred restaurant types and are more chill and interested in quiet and being outside, so after a lot of reading and Gemini research (which has been pretty helpful), I think I've decided to just use Wengen as a base for our time in Der Schweiz rather than bouncing around and trying to Griswold it. Seems like that should give a good representative experience, and rather than trying to see everything, I'm looking at it as a trip to inspire them to go back in the future.

A prelim plan would be:

Day 1: Arrive in Wengen from Munich, just booked rooms at Hotel Schoenegg (which is almost already full), thanks to @rage-a-holic for the rec. Wander around town for the rest of the day.
Day 2: Back down to Interlaken to do a kayak paddle on Lake Brienz (will be my wife's jam). @Your Mom, any recs on companies? Stop in Lauterbrunnen on the way back to do Truemmelbach Falls. Gemini suggests tacking on a cablecar loop through Muerren back to Lauterbrunnen.
Day 3: Early train to Jungfraujoch. Do that stuff avoiding as much tourist hell as possible. Hike down the Eiger Trail on the way back.
Day 4: Find some hiking to do, Gemini suggested the Panorama Trail, Lauberhorn, Schynige Platte area? Any thoughts there?
Possible Day 5: Depending on flight schedules and prices, may have an extra flex day to give some spontaneity, chill, or more hiking for those who want to.
Next day head out for ZRH to stay the night before flying out.

Does that seem like a reasonable approach? Any miserable tourist traps I'm getting us into, or gems I'm missing?
