I'm sorta surprised being a $9.95er is still a viable business model in 2026. It feels so outdated when you think about it. How come the $9.95er business model never worked in pro sports?

Because pro sports has nothing that compares to the year-round circus that is HS recruiting. And you can add the portal to that now, too. It's free agency on a ludicrous scale with everyone on 1 year deals and ~30% of the player base entering the portal.

Fan relationships to their college teams are obviously different too since many have deeper ties to the school. College fans in general are more invested. Just compare team rivalries. NFL rivalries are a picnic compared to college.
