  1. Not really the 4th string RB. He's the fourth leading rusher, but the transferring QB is by far the leading rusher and they seem to use three running backs about the same amount: But yes, it was clearly about playing time that he thought he was promissed.
  2. It looks like this one was about failure to provide the playing time he thought they were going to give him.
  3. I thought it was pretty clear that I meant "one of the favorites to make the playoffs [in the G5 spot]." Obviously the Vegas Odds you provide list them as third; others list them as first or second. That seems like one of the favorites to me. Even if they are the third highest odds - It seems incredible that they would have gone from not even imagining making the playoff to now having the third highest odds of any G5 school in only three games.
  4. Man. This kid must be really good to have taken UNLV from an afterthought that would have required drugs to even imagine in the playoffs to one of the favorites if not the favorite to make the playoff in three games.
  5. Eh - For a starting QB that could potentially lead you to the first 12 team playoff and a multi-million dollar windfall?
  6. Pulling a QB from Holy Cross is always going to be a risk, which is probably why they would have only offered him the money if he won the starting job.
  7. From all of the statements, it seems to me that he was promised $100k if he transferred AND won the starting QB job. Obviously you could not put that in writing, as it would be blatantly against the rules as pay-for-play, so they kept it as a verbal agreement. He won the starting job, went to UNLV/the collective and was like where is the money, and they told him they didn't have it.
  8. I get that the passing stats are not great, but he led Holy Cross, a team that seems to mostly go 4-7 to 10-3 and 12-1. They are now 1-3 so far this year. I'm guessing he's more than a "decent" running QB.
  9. I definitely agree with this take.
  10. The House settlement would explicitly make NIL from boosters against the rules. All NIL payments over $600 would have to be reported. They could not be paid by boosters or collectives. And the payer would have to prove a legitimate business purpose for each deal. It would push the extra payments back underground into bag deals. This is the reason the judge did not approve of the settlement. She basically said this looks a lot like a salary cap. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/whats-next-for-ncaa-nil-collectives-after-house-settlement-talks-hit-roadblock-from-federal-judge/
  11. LOL. "He advised Cromartie/Sluka to discuss the situation direclty with the coaching staff." Even if the collective's side of the story is true, it may look even worse for UNLV's coaches.
  12. Is that true even if the House settlement does not get approved before then?
  13. Come on guys. It's obviously shorthand for "UNLV's collective."
  14. It would cost a lot more than $100k to get a QB at a school like Michigan who is likely going to be a high draft pick to forgo the game (and take the risk of something getting out).
  15. Why pay to train the players before they reach their peak when college football will do it for free?
  16. LOL. It was probably Marion that promised him the $100k.
  17. What? If we assume his side of the story is correct. Then he was promised money and never received it, so he is going to sit out and transfer for next year. Which part of that requires the deal to be pay-for-play? The problem is that he was not paid what he was promised, not that he was not paid for play.
  18. Except that a non-compete is a contract between an employer and an employee. This is a rule decided by a group of competitors (each of the SEC schools are competitors in the marketplace). This would be like if Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and Netflix got together and agreed not to allow employees to transfer between their companies without severe restrictions. It is pretty clearly an antitrust violation.
  19. Not sure if this is an NIL thing, but interesting.
  20. He didn’t say the fan was surprised. He said it was a fan of a school that was surprised.
  21. House only covers former student athletes from 2016 and later. Bush was long gone by then.
