  1. Just reread The Talisman recently and had the same thought. The advent of the longer-form series brings a lot of great books into play -- I wish they would go back and give World War Z the proper treatment, it's perfect for that. I say I'd love Blood Meridian too, but like A Confederacy of Dunces, the only thing it could do would be to disappoint. It would be fun to see someone creative with a take on The Phantom Tollbooth these days. Just not Tim Burton.
  2. Ordered the Meade as well as the HA Rey book, we'll see how it goes. Decided against the wifi adapter to connect to the phone/tablet. I may add it in the future, but it occurred to me that paying another $200 for another screen to distract him kinda undermines the point of this whole thing. Thanks, y'all.
  3. My 11yo is asking for a telescope for Christmas, and this stuff is outside of my experience. Do the Celestron that Thujone linked or the Meade from Armybrat seem like reasonable places to start? Thujone, does the control app you were talking about require the wifi module? Is there anything like that for the Meade which would make the initial learning curve less steep? Also, it looks like the Meade uses GPS to align automatically, correct? I suppose that would be one less step than the Celestron, but is it that big a deal? Anyone ever try the Celestron smartphone adapter, and would that work for either of these? It would be fun for him to snap some basic pictures without the complexity of full-on astrophotography. Just trying to figure out if one of these is better than the other for a kid starting out, and which will reward his curiosity rather than crush it. Or if there are any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them.
  4. Or donates it to Women Called Moses in honor dishonor of Zach and Joe Mixon.
  5. Well, if she was really his sister, then ztejas.
  6. It was an endowment from Stoops. Just not very well-endowed.
  7. Agreed, it can't be denied that Murray is an incredibly talented, explosive threat. The best way to neutralize that is by turning him into a petulant bitch pouting on the sideline, which just so happens to be something in which we have previously demonstrated competency. TTL, P.
  8. I'm not sure he can be folded in half without collapsing into a singularity or some other kind of hardon-collider shit going down.
  9. Fuck that frontrunning bitch Murray. Fuck this piece of shit conference. Fuck OU.
  10. Stout and Fuller's ESB clone were well received at Thanksgiving. I think the 8.5% stout helped cover my cooking flaws, another unexpected benefit. Still experimenting with carbonation balance, but it's been nice to be able to cheat with Perlick creamer faucets. Am I right to think that head retention and lacing will improve when I graduate to all-grain? Because so far neither are as good as your mom's.
  11. First time I'd had the chance to brine and spatchcock. Will definitely continue to do so, got rave reviews. Hullabrine FTW.
  12. Spatchcockmonglers: Brining at present. Do I spatch before I let it dry in the fridge overnight, or spatch just prior to cooking? Surely this has been argued over at some point.
  13. Had the official family viewing last night. I treasure that moment every year. "To the wives!"
  14. To be a dog owner is to own a dog. Do what you love, and share that love with your pup. He's white as a Ghost, looks like a Ship(ley) to me . [emoji869]
  15. The noob should never pipe up, but... I've had my first stout on at 11 like the charts say, but in sampling it before its intended Thanksgiving purpose, I'm going up to 13 or so to see how that works. But I'm trying to cover for a lot of flaws I don't even understand yet.
  16. Time, Tech's campus, and tortillas are all flat circles. Coincidence? ...I think not. (Pancakes at Denny's are also flat circles, but they don't start with at T, so in sum, fuck Gideon).
  17. Sorry for all the sad news. On a lighter note... THANK U HOOMAN FOR NU BED I LIEK
  18. Do it. We took our boys (10 and 13) on a whim while driving home last summer, and it certainly made an impression. The aquarium is good, but honestly I thought the TX aquarium in Corpus was better. I would rather have spent that time at the WW2 museum, which is one of the best I've ever seen. We could probably have done two full days there. If we'd planned ahead better, we would definitely have done Preservation Hall. We had an absolute blast embarrassing the shit out of them one evening on Bourbon street. They learned what vomit mixed with fecal/urine slurry and MD 20/20 smells like, and my wife made our older one get his picture taken in front of all the titty bars, then had them pose with a guy in leather hot pants, a crop top, and a cowboy hat. At breakfast at Cafe Du Monde the next morning, the 10yo pointed wide-eyed at the newspaper headline that said 3 people were shot on that corner later that night. It was pretty awesome.
  19. Me enjoying a nice cool evening, Rupp ready to fuck up those coyotes if they get any closer. Good thing I opted out of that spiral staircase.
  20. Ignoramus question amnesty, plz: Y'all inspired me to get a fermentation chamber setup (chest freezer with Ranco thermostat, going to tape the probe to the side of the carboy and cover with bubble wrap for some insulation). Brewing an ESB tomorrow with wyeast London ale, with a fermentation temp range of 60-72*. Where would you set the thermostat? Try to account for heat from fermentation at 55 or so, or just go at 60 since that should stay in range regardless? Or should I quit overthinking this since anything is better than my previous unfrozen caveman efforts without temperature control?
  21. Sam was quoting Jack Chevigny???
