  1. Cancer sucks. RIP Chris. I enjoyed his work. Great reporter.
  2. Proud to still be sober. I do gummies though. For my arthritis. From a store. They rule. Fuck Zima. When I donate I do local charities and then Chef Jose’ Andres’ charity for feeding the world. He was on tv talking about food to Gaza. Said doesn’t matter how it gets there they need food. We need humanitarian aid on the border. It would be great if we could fund this with the taxes from selling weed. That would be cool. Get some doctors and nurses to see people. Maybe even help build a train to get across all of south, Central America and Mexico. Provide food and aid. Move a lot of factories and manufacturing plants there. We are at a breaking point in Austin. We were not meant have this many fucking people. We can’t sustain this. However they are coming here. It’s too many people. And we have fewer and fewer police and horrible traffic. Water issues in the horizon. It’s too much. We are going to be in a real mess in a decade. A huge mess. And people are worried about shit that might happen in 200 years to the climate. We may just run out of water and be fucked.
  3. I don’t disagree. The other day a group of teachers got a car for their school janitor who walked to work every day. Austin would probably just make the sidewalk wider for him. I dislike both extremes. We need more help funneled into the right areas. But I don’t think implementing failed solutions regarding certain societal problems just because a certain class of people is more affected is bullshit. I’d legalize marijuana and the sale of it and pour money into the communities that most need financial assistance. I’d use the taxes to protect our border but also to allow for humanitarian aid there. More processors to find out who people are. Who we are letting in. I’d make a realistic path to citizenship. I wouldn’t call them new comers/immigrants/illegals and so on. I would refer to each person as a citizen of whatever their country of origin is. Seeing them as one group all the same with all the same intentions is a fallacy. Because we are letting in some bad apples with a lot of the good ones. Those bad apples are committing real crimes like murder and rape. Those bad apples do not represent all of the individuals that come over here. However they come over. 1 million people can’t all claim asylum here. We can’t take on millions and millions. There has to be some limit. No other country would allow this. None. We don’t owe millions and millions of people south of the border citizenship in the United States. Any more than Canada owes some of us who’d like to flee our oppressive states in the US citizenship. As far as the homeless population in Austin I’d follow as an example places like Finland or Houston or San Antonio that have had success with their homeless populations and follow a program that has proven to work. You shouldn’t go to jail for selling a little weed. If you’re a cartel that’s different. Gangbanger that’s a little different. Rolling around doing other crimes. That’s different. Decriminalization only works if the people you intend to help accept a little personal responsibility. The truth is: I have a lot of regrets. Things I look back on and wish I did something different. Said something or helped in some way. I don’t need more shit piled onto the shit I pile on top of myself on the daily. If we all tired a lot harder to first take care of our own messes and see our own actions kind of led us to where we are as well as other factors life would be a lot different. We would be better able to care for those among us who are unable to. If the ones of us with ability would all fix the shit in our own backyard and ask for help for the stuff we can’t fix life would be a lot different. It won’t change. Things won’t change because the ones who have power won’t give it up and the ones who don’t have power want that power. We all look at each other as the enemy. I can’t take on the responsibility of anyone else’s blame or guilt or shame any more than I would ask someone to take on mine. If we’d take care of our own bullshit we’d be able to fix a lot of problems. Pointing the finger and blame hasn’t worked either. Bringing up the last 200 plus years has nothing to do with me. I didn’t create that. I am not going to shoulder that and I don’t think 60% of American people should have to or want to shoulder the sins of America’s from its origins. All this breeds is more hatred, guilty, shame and entitlement and division. We are more separated than ever. We see people in a group. As part a group. We don’t see individual people. It sucks and makes me sad. I have a lot of regrets. I have a lot I can do and should do and am trying to do. I am not responsible for anything more than that. I sure as shit am not responsible for how someone’s life in Podunk Idaho turned out. We want 100% alignment with everyone on every issue and solution or we get triggered or go ballistic. No middle ground. No compromise. It’s a mess. Austin is becoming a bigger mess because of this same thing. We don’t take care of our own messes and it bleeds into everything. Bigger messes and we think the best thing to do is make easier for people to create even bigger messes without supervision.
  4. Back to Austin’s latest crime scene….
  5. Well there were probably more police and fewer people in Austin back then? I’m not sure 2009 makes a lot of sense. You could pick any year from four years ago on. There is a crisis but honestly people will just shrug down the line when innocent people can’t be saved or 911 is spread too thin during large events until a guy with a machete shows up on their front lawn with a bucket full of sea bass. Then you are fucked.
  6. I also see in Oregon they are walking back decriminalizing drug possession. Cuz it ain’t working. Cuz this wasn’t gonna work. More drug overdoses than ever before there bc they let people sell drugs . I think marijuana ought to be legal with taxation and government oversight and standards. Use the taxes to protect the border but most especially put that money also into disadvantaged communities and their schools and community centers and whatever will best help them. Austin is dumb. Let’s try shit that ain’t working other places like with the police or be a sanctuary city or do this or that. Or fuck up I35 or go crazy vet bike lanes and other transit that isn’t going to work and have a ramped homeless issue and have more people than resources like water! People have to value the rule of law and a decent living. Value education and caring for others. Policies we think are meant to do that are doing the opposite with our homeless. With our mentally ill. With the gun laws issue. With disadvantaged people and with our poor minorities. With nearly every crisis we have this issue. The “my heart is in the right place and I want to do the right thing” but we choose the dumbest of all ways to accomplish it. We worry that we will offend. But our heart is in the right place so we think if we choose a dumbass direction that doesn’t work and can’t work and has never been proven to work but also has go overboard to appease people so overboard that it has to be the RIGHT thing when it is in fact—-WRONG! Sorry but this shit radically pisses me off. I’d wager we all feel the same way about wanting to solve all problems we have. I am compassionate but I am also not an idiot. Blind compassion fueling these horrible ideas that are then pushed onto the communities. But hey, one side got what they wanted. Five years down the road and it’s one crisis after another they will see they are wrong and shrug their shoulders and blame the world. Not their solution. This is absolutely directed at both parties which I do not support. Dumb ideas to solve real problems put into law by useless lawyers… rant over.
  7. Still in Atlanta for those keeping track. This could wind up in the drugs thread, homeless thread, or my crime feed thread. You just don’t know…
  8. Clearly I have no internet art skills but wish I could have made a sticker of a shot of him yesterday after X ran when he flashed the horns…the idea is there but the skill (mine) is weak… Anyway, happy for Worthy. He has been one of my all time favorite players.

  12. The death earlier this month of Foremost GroupCEO Angela Chao, the sister-in-law of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, is currently under "criminal investigation," a Texas sheriff's office said Thursday. Chao, 50, was found dead shortly after midnight on Feb. 11 after being pulled out of a car that had gone into a pond on a private ranch in Johnson City, Texas, about 40 miles from Austin. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2024/02/29/angela-chao-death-being-investigated-as-criminal-matter.html
