  1. I realize the lettering may be an accidental coincidence. But, does that guy's jacket read, "RONIN"? Is he a Cyrillic samurai?
  2. One of the reasons I love him (no homo). We could use some more centrists around here. Of course many such people are still labeled socialists, so it's hard to tell sometimes.
  3. Cool. I get to vote for her now instead of just hearing about her. And I think she's a fine upgrade from Feinstein, who needs to enjoy retirement.
  4. 42 "destroyed" HIMARS with: 42/38 = 110% - original assumed number supplied 42/20 = 210% - the correct number supplied I think is the math being described.
  5. If I hear Desmond say, "I tell you what", one more time...
  6. Not targeting? BS. But what a hell of a game!
  7. I didn't say they couldn't make that choice. They did. But if they wanted to be in the game, they would be. I'm not blasting them for their choice. I'm just perplexed by the phrases used to paint this as something beyond their control. It's not. It is a risk, sure. Simple enough. And if the game is meaningless, then why are ANY players on the field? Hell, if one just won the Doak Walker/Heisman award AND their team were in the playoffs should they play? I mean, it's "meaningless", right? That player will be get a fat NFL contract regardless.
  8. They may want Texas to win and I suspect they do fervently. But they don't want to be in the game. They chose not to play. If they were injured or barred from playing then that's another story. If they wanted to play they would be suited up and our run game would at the very least be improved, if not serviceable.
  9. Don't we celebrate Festivus a little bit every day on Surly?
  10. The video above mentioned the problem with lead dust. It's one of the things holding up other restoration work. I read elsewhere that the powers that be who decided to go with a lead roof to maintain historical consistency boasted that the new runoff system will have some mechanism in place to catch and filter water. So everyone seems to agree that lead is a health problem. There is a slight runoff risk that will be mitigated. The fire showed there is a great lead dust risk should another fire break out. We don't generally insist on asbestos when renovating structures that used that in the past. Historical accuracy should have limits of some kind.
  11. Great video. Still not a fan of using lead for the roof again. I realize they want to maintain historical accuracy. But lead in this day and age? I would draw the line there.
  12. That sliver was added to Russia proper after WWII. Then they ethnic cleansed it with almost nothing but Russians. When the USSR fell apart there was no one with the bright (and right) idea to break away.
  13. Because everyone was being bribed. Now that the money's been doled out, and most of the people on the take got away with it, the Qataris are left to fend for themselves. To hell with all of them.
  14. At least Gallagher made it long enough to see the liberation of the land of Watermelons. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/11/entertainment/gallagher-comic-dead/index.html
  15. Closer than it should be, that's for certain 50.5 - 49.5. https://ballotpedia.org/California's_47th_Congressional_District_election,_2022
  16. I think there may be some miscommunication here. AFAIK when the Ukrainians talk about the right side of the river they describe it as one looks downstream along the river. For the N-S flowing Dnieper that means right = west. I suspect someone at some point saw "right" looked on a map and assumed this meant the eastern shore since that's to the right of the western shore. The orcs on the east side are not trapped. Yet.
  17. Meanwhile in Kherson: Rolling, rolling, rolling...
  18. Nothing disturbing to see here. Just armed sheriff's deputies stationed by ballot drop boxes asking whether people are dropping off their ballots. You know, for safety. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/03/politics/elections-law-enforcement-conspiracy-theories-invs/index.html The Berks County Sheriff is apparently among that group of legal scholars known as "Constitutional Sheriffs". They look friendly enough, right?
