  1. Estonia and Latvia also. So that comes out to six countries in total. How could Russia possibly survive with NATO "on its doorstep"?
  2. Their preferred country of refuge should they be driven out of the country, God willing?
  3. Frohe Weihnachten
  4. Elon Musk endorses far right AfD (Alternative for Germany) in the upcoming German elections. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/elon-musk-alternative-for-germany-election-far-right-nazi-past-rcna185018 Surprise!
  5. I never met Bob, but I did work with Oliver in the past. Very sorry to see him have to go through this.
  6. In no particular order, Healdsburg, Windsor, Sebastopol. Glen Ellen is nice, but more fire prone (a friend of ours lost their home there a few years back). And if you want a larger city instead of a town, Petaluma is pretty good too. There's not much built up on the coast of Sonoma County. It's windy, rugged and takes a while to get to from further inland. No major roads coming in from the east, just the twisty 2 lane variety. It does have some nice hiking though.
  7. I live in Sonoma and love it. We don't have kids with us, so I have no informed opinion on the schools here. The weather is great. The wine is great. The political climate (for me and I assume others on this thread) is great. The downsides? Taxes are higher. Home prices are higher. There's always a fire risk in the fall, particularly if you live in a more rural area. Marin is a center for anti-vax sentiment I believe, even if not MAGA. It might be even more expensive than Sonoma. There is no paradise on Earth. It's all compromise. On balance, Sonoma is a winner for us.
  8. <Dr. Pepper>Happy Playoffuary!</Dr. Pepper>
  9. Here we go again. You see Pete, the whole thing about NATO is, we haven't had to "do that" again in 75 years. In other words. It has worked. Quite well.
  10. Yep. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) from Oakland to SF. Plans for, or working on I forget, a second tube.
  11. Most Kazakhs are neutral. Of those who aren't, most support Ukraine. At least that's my reading of it.
  12. And since they happened before Trump came back into office, it's all Biden's fault.
  13. Yep. Republicans will claim things are going to hell because they weren't able to get every single thing they wanted done due to Democrat obstruction in Congress and at the state level. We half assed it, thus the problems. The only logical conclusion would be to vote in a super majority for the Republicans. Then everything will be great again! Someone's got to do something about that pesky Emmanuel Goldstein.
  14. I was going to ask that folks provide sources for their simple "XX for cabinet post YY" posts. Because I thought one or two of them really had to be Onion jokes. They just HAD to be. Eileen Cannon as the next SC nominee will no longer surprise me.
  15. Unfortunately, the Donbas and Crimea may never be retaken, barring a complete collapse of Russia. I don't like that at all. But it just doesn't look probable. But if anyone is going to talk about territorial concessions (and even then only with REAL safeguards in place, which this proposal does not seem to have), then both banks of the Dnieper River MUST be under Ukrainian control. They need to be able to ship their agricultural products out without Russian fuckery and interference. So at least part of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia territory needs to be returned to Ukraine.
  16. So we can look forward to Trump presiding over the country's 250th birthday.
  17. Wow, 159 counties in that state, second only to Texas. Seems excessive.
  18. And how exactly will Orban get his gas? Not through Ukraine anymore.
  19. In order to deduct car loan interest I assume one would have to itemize. But given his previous tax provisions, a much larger percentage of people take the standard deduction instead. So they'll end up getting nothing out of it. But I'm sure magats will crow about their tax cut on their monster truck loan interest and still fill out a 1040EZ with a standard deduction. Take that libtards!
  20. Build the fucking wall All around Oklahoma A good policy
  21. From the party of "limited government". And, as someone has already pointed out, exactly what China has attempted with little success and lots of wasted capital. Brilliant!
