  4. It's hot in the summer. Poach it lightly in white wine, garlic, and butter. Chill it and serve it salad nicoise style.
  5. Kyrie -- I appreciate what you are saying. I may have personalized my reactions on this topic a bit too much because of my personal experiences in this area. I had a family member that starting hitting smack in HS and really never stopped using for the rest of his life. Huge priors and incarceration for possession, armed robbery, theft, extortion. Stole from family members that gave him a place to live whenever he was out of prison. Huntsville and associated facilities were his second home. He broke his mother's heart. Once she passed, the family went tough love on him. He died in prison of self-inflicted Hep-C and liver failure at the age of 65. I understand very well the concept of "but for the grace of God -- there go I," but there are just some people and some situations, despite any of our best intentions, that we will not be able to fix in this lifetime.
  6. I'm old enough to remember when all of the little old ladies were jealous/critical of each other's food offerings at the church pot luck luncheons. Now this activity has evolved to occurring on a football message board. Times change.
  7. It would be way cool if we could wait for the ND pitcher to show a strike before swinging.
  8. This. The only issue has been some commercials by Bob Cole. I just cannot stand that guy's voice!
  9. Not so much. As I understood it, Jake thought that he was taking an Adderall pill. Prior to all of this Fentanyl shit, I would have never dreamed that something that I smoked or took in pill form would have been life threatening. I did plenty of stuff back in the day, but I drew the line at any injections.
  10. So we have heard. Local man charged with exposing self, masturbating at public library https://local12.com/newsletter-daily/cincinnati-ohio-man-charged-exposing-self-masturbating-public-library-robert-mcclure-public-indecency-arrest-delhi
  11. Great bar snacks at $6 a pop. Housemade Gin & Tonic is a winner.
  12. I don't disagree, at all. I ran Water Events at the Aqua Festival and learned first hand about all of the obstacles that we had to work around out there. It would be way cheaper to do that than most of the other nonsense that the COA spends money on.
  13. Both of my kids first cars were used cars that I paid cash for (well under $10K) so that I didn't have to pay the ridiculous insurance rates for collision coverage on new drivers. We gave them better cars (still used ones, because that is all that I'll buy) when they graduated from college and they got off of our car insurance plan. I don't like car payments, so I really am not a fan of car leases. YMMV.
  14. I'll say it. I have very little sympathy for that cohort. Anybody that willingly injects shit into their body has already made a big decision. There are predictable consequences to people's decisions.
  15. People don't understand how much junk is under the water surface there. This is the first pic I came up with, but there is more under the water, including the debris of granite and concrete blocks from the failure of the dam for Lake Austin. It would need to be drained and dredged before it would be safe for regular recreational swimming and such.
  16. There is so much wrong with this. The very idea that a public library is a great place for homeless junkies to hang out, for starts. Then the idea that a librarian should be tasked with saving the homeless junkies from the consequences of their own actions. Hopefully, the librarians are indemnified for any adverse outcomes with respect to said homeless junkies.
  17. Looks pretty good, though maybe even better topped with a fried egg: https://www.homesicktexan.com/chicken-fried-steak-with-red-chile-gravy/
  18. Wrong thread. Steel Shank or Vick worthy other than the fancy plate.
  19. Seems like there was a barbecue place in Galveston that got a lot of attention on Surly. Can't remember the name.
  20. Nope, but likely way cheaper than any downtown in Texas these days. Live it up -- the steaks are pretty cheap in Omaha!
  21. There are public parking garages within walking distance. Don't recall having to make reservations.
