  1. The first football game that I attended -- at age 4 or so, was a PNG game! Go Indians! Great season.
  2. I was initially reluctant to click on this thread, but was relieved to find out that it was about food.
  3. Michael Dell didn't graduate from UT, but he's busy changing the area around there: Demolition Approved for 18th and Guadalupe Corner in Downtown Austin https://austin.towers.net/demolition-approved-for-18th-and-guadalupe-corner-in-downtown-austin/?pro=caitlyn@towers.net

    Chicago

Let's not forget the negative influence of David Foster and Bill Champlin. That said, the band did what it needed to do to survive the vapid disco and power ballad era. The guys all (except for Walt Parazaider, whose wife must be a saint) had ex-wives to pay big money to monthly. Cocaine must be a hell of a drug.

Agree that the ballad era sucked. Kath was a huge loss. This is the bad ass version of the boys that I like to remember:

Yes, you are mistaken. Chicago II is a great album. What you are calling "Colour My World" is simply one movement of several from a masterpiece Rock classic musical suite known as "Ballet for a Girl from Buchannon" -- written by trombonist and composer James Pankow. [For radio airplay -- two movements from the Ballet were chopped into singles, "Make Me Smile" and Colour My World -- both Top 10 singles.] Chicago generally plays the entire suite in its live concerts these days even though it was too long for radio. Other notable songs on that album include a little song that you may have heard of known as "25 or 6 to 4", also a Top 10 single -- they played that song at their Rock and Roll HOF induction. Other memorable songs on that album that still hold up pretty well are "Wake Up Sunshine" written and sung by Robert Lamm and "In the Country" written and sung by the late, great Terry Kath. These last two didn't get much radio play since, between the two albums, there were already enough popular Chicago singles out there to fill out most any radio station's programming list. Agree that all the political stuff on the album doesn't hold up all of that well over 50 years later. YMMV.
  7. Ike's Chili in Tulsa has this abomination -- Chili, beans, and spaghetti. Oh, the humanity!
  8. FIFY.
  9. Beard hadn't been spending enough time on Surly watching the "Don't Talk to the Police" video that is regularly posted here.
  10. Yes. The matter still seems to be pending in Travis County 147th District Court (criminal court). The next event on the docket is a pre-trial hearing in January. Case number is D-1-DC-22-904030. The wheels of justice grind slowly.
  11. And then, maybe you will consider getting a bigger air compressor!
  12. /lock thread
  13. In person or online -- I've got to hand it to you, you are always very proud of that middle finger.
  14. For sure! That is a big reason why I've been so impressed by how Hunters Creek (North of intersection of US 183 and Hwy 29 near Liberty Hill) does their work. Open window for you to watch while processing and separate tubs for all of your meat. It is a single batch processing operation. You will definitely be getting your own meat. (Phrasing, perhaps?)
  15. All of the kids that we raised out at our deer leases would have known way better than to do that. (Despite the fact that they saw their Dads do lots of stupid shit and they still survived.)
  16. I'm sure those worked great. My dear, long deceased Grandmother, in her declining years, read somewhere that you could use slices of flour tortillas thrown into broth as dumplings. She was deceived!
  17. IDK if anybody uses Bisquick any more, but as a kid, the dumplings were always made with a tight batter of that stuff seasoned with garlic, sage, rosemary and such, dropped into the boiling broth a very large tablespoon at a time. Perfection.
  18. That's rough. @Troph is not wrong about getting yourself to MDA. Give 'em hell!
  19. Fucking sad that she didn't know better than to do that.
  20. The apocryphal story that goes around in Austin business circles is that the IRS challenged the valuation of Academy stock on the estate tax return when the founder died (Gotchman, or something like that). The IRS used a valuation based upon comparables from major retailers rather than from a true Army/Navy Surplus store. That supposedly opened the eyes of the heirs as to how much potential the company had if they moved towards being a more standard retail operation. Goodbye to Academy Surplus and hello to Academy Sports + Outdoors -- 250+ stores and counting.
  21. Happy Birthday, Young Man!
  22. That was obviously some of the inspiration for that classic ride, the Family Truckster!
  23. Good to see that you remembered to bring a rifle!
