  1. You might see if the local monument engraver is also able to polish it. my father is buried in a small rural cemetery. My g-g grand father’s tombstone is broken off and is laying on top of his gravesite. My mother and I are going to purchase a new one. His fathers head stone, right behind my father’s grave is leaning a moderate amount. We are going to re-level it. none of these graves are important to his family, but their upkeep is really important to my mother, so that makes it important to me. CHIEF
  2. Don’t forget “Privatize” their watching you. CHIEF
  3. I'm old enough to remember when Hall and Oates came out. Being a country kid, I actually thought their name was "Haulin' Oats". I was puzzled that they didn't really sound country. CHIEF
  4. Yeah. He called the union rep, he is a member. But didn't get the warm fuzzies. CHIEF
  5. I have a step-uncle that has moved back from Hong Kong, where he taught school for 20 years. He went to work in SAISD. He had to restrain a child that was throwing stuff, trying to injure other students. He was put on standard administrative leave. The kid he restrained is completely over it. He doesn't think anything will become of it, but would like a good attorney referral if anyone knows someone. You can put any referrals here or DM me. Thanks. CHIEF
  6. I've always been a car guy. I remember lusting after my friend's 69' Camaro and his Dad's 57' Bel Air two-door hardtop. That would be like me lusting for a 98' Viper or a a 2009' Vette now. Both of those older cars were considered "classics" at the time. My dad was my age in 2000, with a two year old grandchild that I didn't even have until I was 30. I always say life is like a roll of toilet paper, it rolls a lot faster as you get to the end of the roll. CHIEF
  7. Good post Brisket. I will reiterate that when I tell someone that I am praying for them, many times I am not praying for a devine miracle, although I would happily accept it. I am praying that God give them peace and comfort to be able to accept their fate, or to give them strength for the ongoing battle to in their fight against a disease, grief of loss, or their bad circumstances. It is my belief that I have eternal life through God's son, Jesus Christ. Sent to this world to give us that hope through faith. I will not have an eternal life starting after death. I am living my eternal life presently. In my carbon based life, presently, I am merely a caterpillar waiting to emerge from my cocoon. I am also a very live and let live type of person. I have a strong belief in separation of Church and State. I left my last prayer group over it getting too political. The bible says that the World will become more immoral and depraved, the evangelical movement to stop it from happening, as they see fit is just tilting at windmills. CHIEF
  8. I pray. I don't really pray much for God to intercede in matters on my behalf (except for safety of family and friends, selfishly). But for understanding of the things in this world that I have no control over. Also, for those that are so condescending about anyone that is a believer is ignorant of science. I am always trying to punch holes in my faith, I have found that it accomplishes just the opposite, it makes my faith stronger. I love watching debates, two of the really great scientific believers are Frank Turek, and John Lennox, an Oxford mathematician. For those of you that have made up your mind that there is no God, fair enough. But for those of you that are on the fence, these scientists make some compelling arguments. I invite you down the rabbit hole. Please remember the headers are from a biased commentator, I usually fast forward through his narrative. CHIEF
  9. EV vehicles are a Trojan Horse, so are wind turbines, those are my main problems with "sustainables". The problem is that those are the face of "sustainables". https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/28/world/wind-turbine-recycling-climate-intl/index.html I had no problem with recycling bins when I lived in Austin. Most people, I suspect don't. I worked for a disposal company for about 14 months. The glass recycle bins were combined with the regular trash, after the fact, as Austin didn't have a glass recycling plant, at the time. Just a lot of feel good recycling for naught. CHIEF
  10. I have a buddy that is a Merck rep, in Austin. We lived by each other in the early 2000s. He was the biggest Vioxx rep in Austin, and always had samples. Vioxx was recalled (biggest recall ever, highest monetary fine ever) around 2005. It was deemed as the cause of a few heart attacks, thus, the human cost was considered to outweigh the benefits. What did the FDA and doctors go back to prescribing? Opiates. Back to the highly addictive prescriptions that Vioxx and other nsaids were designed to replace. Vioxx was a wonder drug, non-addictive, non-hallucinogenic, just felt normal with no pain. I don't think there was any pain that a 50mg Vioxx couldn't overcome. I swear you could have an arm blown off, take a Vioxx, and go to work the next day. The FDA, in my opinion, really fucked up. The opiate addiction, in this country, will end up killing many 1000x over of people that would have died from heart attacks from nsaids like Vioxx. https://www.medicalerroraustralia.com/medical-disasters/10-worst-drug-recalls-in-history/ CHIEF
  11. It could be Fentanyl related deaths. Nothing to do with health care. They never see the inside of a hospital. CHIEF
  12. That is exactly what the Russians are worried about. Can you imagine your nukes fucking up, and you end up nuking your own country? Or Putin hits the big red button, and nothing happens? CHIEF
  13. Yeah, I've ordered about 4 bottles of the Delta 9 Jumbos. Cut them in half, watch some comedy shows, go to bed and sleep like a baby. CHIEF
  14. I actually think Jimbo can talk his way into another year. They are 0-3 in one score games with losses to Tennessee, Alabama, and Ole Miss (currently, two top 10 teams, and the fourteenth ranked team). Jimbo will fire Addizio, be given the check to go money whip the best OL coach available, and that next years OL will keep QB1 clean in the pocket for the whole year, and the aggys will reach the CFP. The narrative that aggy could be a one loss team with competent line play isn't completely delusional , but highly unlikely. The problem is that the rats are jumping ship, and even with improved OL play, they are likely to loose so much talent that it still won't affect the W-L column. Losing Stewart, Weigman, Nolan, etc. is going to drop that ceiling like a firefighter in a burning building. This is probably their best case scenario. At least, that is my fantasy. CHIEF
  15. CHIEF Jr. was about 6 or so when he realized we always bought his favorite candy so if we didn’t give it all out, he and I would eat it. His bucket would come back with about a third of what we bought, about half of it worthless shit. The year he stopped trick’o treating, he just walked up to the “give” bucket looked at me like a stone cold killer, daring me to say something, and pulled out about half the bucket, and put it in his. Went straight to the living room floor, poured out his loot and started eating. Never left the house. CHIEF
  16. Know a lady in the same position. She was divorced, and married a rich widower. All of the generational money is from his deceased wife's family. They live a lavish life, private jet, vacations, expensive jewelry. The way her prenup was set up, she only gets the house they own when he is deceased, or $250k for a house. You can't buy shit with $250k. So we sold them a lakefront home for $750k, as his final home. The thing is, she really doesn't have any retirement savings, so she will probably have to end up selling that home, and move in with her adult daughter and SIL. CHIEF
  17. My only worry is the Dad wanting to get her expensive ass off of his dole, and onto CHIEF Jr.'s. We have a friend that just loves CHIEF Jr., always trying to hook him up with his daughter. He sold a pharmaceutical company for millions. She has very expensive hobbies, English saddle competitions, art, etc. She bought a $15k fur coat when we went to the Dallas Safari Club expo. CHIEF Jr. told our friend that he has no interest in funding those kinda items, and if she wants them, he would still be on the hook for those kind of things. I think the best idea so far, is to stay a single wage earner. CHIEF
  18. CHIEF Jr. interviewed for one of the diagnostic/troubleshooting engineers for the F-35. If he gets it, I'll forward your recommendation, and give you and Randolph White the credit. CHIEF
  19. An absolute cripple fight for sure. CHIEF
  20. I was the first juror picked for a Grand Jury, in Travis county when I still lived in Austin in about 2002. We had one old lady that basically tried to play out a verdict on every person, she had to constantly be reminded that we were just responsible for determining if there was enough evidence to indict. I get selected, in Hood county about every 3-4 years. I totally forgot about a summons in the Spring and called a couple of days after, the clerk was really nice and told me she would reschedule me for this last September. Made the summons, not selected. Mrs. CHIEF still has trauma, to this day. She was on a high profile murder trial, here, in Hood county. The defendant didn't own a gun with the barrel twist of the firearm used in the murders, and there was evidence that wasn't admitted that matched the description of a second suspect, and his vehicle. One juror was next door neighbors with the prosecuting attorney, and didn't disclose their friendship. She was the last juror to hold out for a "not guilty" verdict and got Allen Charged. With a young child at home, she wasn't prepared to hold out, even though I encouraged it. Luckily, the verdict was later overturned. That was probably 13 years ago, and she has never received a summons since. CHIEF
  21. He looks like an 11, I would say you scored him pretty dead on. CHIEF
  22. Bruce, the old man, is a great guy. Jerry, the son can be abrasive, but is usually out in the field. He loves his co-workers. They are already planning fishing and Auodad hunting trips. CHIEF
  23. Also, women with generational money are willing to sign a prenup. I am sure he would want to keep the house, since he had it before marriage, and would want to keep all of his retirement.Everything else would probably be fair game. The last girlfriend had 800 acres in Hondo, a house in Albuquerque, and a trust fund. She would have damn well wanted a prenup. We have a buddy that is a frac consultant that makes mid-six figures. He just has two baby mommas. He never let them move in, so no common law marriage. He has several million squirreled away in retirement and investments. He wanted kids, he pays the maximum child support, and buys the kids just about anything else they want, and keeps them the whole time he isn't out in the Permian. He is a great father, gets along and accommodates the mothers. He just decided that was the cheaper route than to risk his huge nest egg. CHIEF
  24. His last girlfriend was generational money, but too high maintenance. She started cutting into his hunting and fishing time, and wanting him to come to Dallas all the time at the drop of a hat. He wasn't having it. My expectations are probably a school teacher, accountant, small business owner from here that digs his crib, loves the outdoors. CHIEF
  25. Its about 6-7 minutes away from us. I also don't go over there each day, so I wouldn't be dropping in. He gets all the puppies, but none of the "dogs" in this situation. As an engineering type, he already has his life planned. Not sure if he is the exception, or the rule. Nobody can disrupt his plans unless she is Hanna Barron. CHIEF
