  1. Never tried tobacco spray.
  2. A lot has to do with if you want to go full organic or you don't mind spray pesticides in your garden to keep the pests away. Even with pesticides, it's not 100%. To me, beating the pests is part of the "joy" of gardening. It's a war each year and you better be ready to come to battle. Myself, I don't mind spraying certain pesticides to kill things like squash bugs as I haven't had any luck with anything organic. But for things like tomato hornworms or leaf eating caterpillars, I will use an organic spray like BT. What I try to do is plant enough that if the bugs get to a few plants, then no big deal. I would say that I get 50% of my tomato plants to really thrive.
  3. Another 23 jars of dill pickles. Also got our first cantaloupes of the season. Probably have about 5 more on the vines and 3 watermelons.
  4. Pounded out some bread and butter pickles. Cucumbers are still going strong so looks like another round of dill pickles this weekend.

Not too bad. Probably a 30-45 minute line at the most.
  6. Played in a charity tournament at Stonebriar Country Club. Course is in great shape and greens are true and FAST, but I like fast greens. I made several 15 ft putts and one that was probably 25 ft. Course is pretty hard and the pin placement was about as difficult as I've seen on any course. Not sure why it was set up for that difficulty for a charity tournament other than maybe the winning prizes were really nice, not just some gift cards of drivers/putters. However, it was what they called a cha-cha scramble. Never heard of it but you play best ball on the drive then play your own ball from there. The foursome will score the best 2 scores on par 4s, best 3 scores on par 3s and best 1 score on par 5s. Now, I find the concept interesting and different but this tournament had 36 teams and didn't start till 10am with the high temp of 93 degrees. Since everyone played their own ball after the best drive, it was basically like playing a normal foursome. So, it ended up being a 6+ hour round in the F'ing heat of the day. What was to be lunch ended up being basically early dinner, which most people were so damn hot not many people ate. Maybe on a cooler day or a smaller amount of teams it would be a good format, but a typical scramble would have been better.
  7. It's getting crispier and crispier by the day there. I'll be in Orlando at the end of July but in a convention hall with lots of air conditioning and people that know how to act right.
  8. Craigslist and Facebook marketplace are good places to look for used trailers. Like someone said previously, check for leaks around ceiling and weakness in floor from any water damage.
  9. I'm picking up a 16' trailer in San Antonio from my bro-n-law this Saturday. Looks like it needs 2 new/used tires and the other 2 at least balanced. They live right across the street from Fort Sam. Anyone have a lead on a non-national tire shop around that area? Just looking for some local shop because other than the drive back to Dallas, not a lot of mileage will be put on the trailer except for a 45 minute drive to take my tractor to my hunting land.
  10. I'm just wondering if the time is enough for the ham hocks versus ham/bacon pieces. Maybe saute the ham hocks first?
  11. You think this would be the same substituting ham hocks?
  12. Anyone have a recipe for green beans and ham hocks for the instant pot?
  13. Texas Monthly's Final BBQ bracket is Snow's vs. Brett's Backyard BBQ (beat out Franklin's). https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/vote-in-the-final-round-of-the-2019-readers-choice-bbq-bracket/
  14. Not sure how you can mess up a brisket on a pellet grill.
  15. Found 2 cucumbers hiding at the bottom of the trellis that had been missed for a couple of days. Luckily they didn't yellow up. Canned 19 more jars of dill pickles today. Next batch will certainly be bread and butter pickles.
  16. Mine will turn yellow if they get over ripe. A little yellow is okay, but a brighter yellow is bitter. So you could get small cucumbers getting yellow because not getting enough water and/or nutrients to grow.
  17. Going to make another batch of pickles tomorrow. Garden continues to spit out some good veggies daily.
  18. I encourage anyone grinding up for sausage that when you are done with the sausage grind to take a whole brisket and grind it up for hamburger or ground beef. Get you a cheap Walmart or grocery store packer to do it and it's cheaper than ground beef from the butcher.
  19. Briskets came out great, even the stubborn one. Only got a couple of pics after the first round went through. They pretty much polished off 2 briskets and 5 racks of ribs. Have just a little left over for lunch tomorrow.
  20. 1st one done but the other is being stubborn. Ain't pulling it till it is smooth as butter to the probe. Ribs are turning out great too.
  21. It's been a good while since I threw anything on the smoker but my oldest girl's birthday party is tonight and she wanted brisket and ribs. Got the briskets on at 7 and the ribs will go on about 11.
  22. Got a good harvest today. We picked cucumbers and some tomatoes over the last couple of days but the wife and kids did a full sweep through this afternoon.
  23. Just freeze after you cut it up and then vacuum seal. Some people just throw them into zip lock bags after freezing but it's a pretty simple process to seal them.
  24. First round of pickles are done. Will get to the other bowl full tomorrow.
  25. Don't drive to any of those places. Just go to another Austin joint.
