  1. a totally insufferable cunt of the highest order.
  2. The scene was poorly directed. Perhaps she was so focused on, artistically, not shooting the scene like a dude that she forgot about making sure a diligent viewer could reasonably infer what was happening.
  3. The script in the original Fletch was top notch; I think many people attribute the quips to Chevy, but when I read the screenplay, about 80-90% of the famous lines that everyone quotes were already in there for him. He did have some great ad libs that weren't in there (e.g., moon river, John Coctosan), but the script was key to that movie. I could tell from the trailer the script for the new one was shit.
  4. I agree. To prevent the issues I described, they would have to stray from the thing. And I'm not sure I'd trust them too - we know how that turned out last time. Ultimately, I blame the fat man.
  5. My issue isn't lack of action and battles; GOT season 1 had very little - most of the battles happened off screen (e.g., we never saw Robb capture the Kingslayer). Further, the battle they have had in HOTD was dogshit, as discussed above. But GOT, right from the start, had plot and intrigue across multiple story lines: 1) the north and the wall, and winter is coming, 2) the attack on Bran, 3) the incest in King's landing and the true heir, 4) the betrayal and killing of Ned, 5) Khalesi and the Dothraki, etc etc. Plus, there was all kinds of back story and mystery related to events that had happened in years past, that were only vaguely alluded to, like the Mad King and his death, the killing of Rahegar by Robert, the kidnap of Ned's sister, Jon's Snow's mother, etc etc. These things further fueled the mystery and intrigue surrounding the show and its characters. People are naturally going to compare this show to GOT. HOTD is singularly focused on the succession story. By comparison, this would have taken up about 20 minutes of airtime in the first half season of GOT; it's over 240 minutes in HOTD thus far. In a relative sense, it's pretty boring. I realize the showrunners are probably at the mercy of the source material. But it seems like there's much more back story that could be explored in this world that is not: 1) the doom of valryia (sp?) - it's the whole reason the Targs are even in Westeros in the first place - we get nothing on that; 2) We have whole houses from other kingdoms that are not in GOT that have gotten very little screen time: - we know very little about the Sea Snake's family or their past, not much at all about the Hightower's. These are very powerful houses that could yield some interesting storylines, but they are just absent. Could we not cut to old town or other places to break up the monotony a bit?
  6. I thought this episode was slow and plodding. It’s clear they are trying to drag this thing out as long as they can.
  7. The luby's on slaughter is attached to a fuddruckers. Took my oldest there (fudd's) before a baseball game for nostalgia. It was ok.
  8. Remember when we lost water for a week because the water treatment facility had a backup generator that no one knew how to activate? That's Austin in a nutshell for you. The city cares more about hotels for the homeless or imbedding artists within the watershed department than actual real shit that will matter to its citizens.
  9. The algo recommended them to me about a year ago. I didn't like/comment/subscribe or anything, but it's an interesting channel.
  10. Team illiterati forever here, but my understanding is with the OG show, 1 TV season generally = 1 thing which will not be named. The pacing here is so slow it seems they are squeezing as much as they can out of 1 thing which will not be named. Oh well, I'll take it - it's nice to have GOT back on TV.
  11. My wife pointed out Viserys was missing two fingers now. The throne keeps eating away at him. Frankly, I thought he'd be dead by now.
  12. I know people love gore and battle and shit, but the strategy of the military campaign in the step stones made no sense to me. 1) from the get go, they are islands. If you want to take islands, you will need plenty of infantry and not just ships. It's not just a naval battle. I'm not sure what the original plan of the sea snake was. 2) let's see, 2 years in, the entirety of your enemy is holed up on on a small rock-based island bereft of natural resources, and you have them cut off from any re-supply. And you are "losing?" If you have time to kill (and you do - it's been at least two years) and you don't need the islands for strategic reasons (e.g., an airstrip in WW2), why not just starve them out? They'll be dead of dehydration in 2-3 weeks. 3) if you actually need the island quickly, you take it the way they did at the end, without all the silly Prince Daemon 1 vs 1,000 theatrics. Use the dragons to get your men on the beach, take out their archers with said fire-breathing dragon, chase them to their holes and then smoke them out. I didn't get it. The rest of the episode was fine, but there's a lot of brooding and pouting and drinking and vista-staring.
  13. "Big Ben. . . Parliament" is in regular rotation in my household when we're driving. My kids say it, and I'm not sure they've even all seen the movie.
  14. We definitely upgraded the talent and we looked much better than I thought we would. Let's see how we hold up against some real teams.
