  1. Yep - I'm betting they factored that in when setting the schedule. Lots of new faces this year - should be exciting. In the circle, we desperately need a swing and miss type. It's something key we lack . . . maybe the new Iowa chick can give us that. At the plate, we need some pop. We have some really good hitters, but we need someone like Shanon Rhoades or iokopa that can threaten to go yard. No Day this year. Maybe the ND chick can provide this. I expect the same shenanigans with base running and fielding - that's just what you get with a MW team. Keep Mia in the OF please!
  2. It sucks they start off with so many road games, but with the weather we've had here recently in February, it makes sense to start in reliably sunny places to avoid cancellations.
  3. 9 of the top 10 are from the new SEC/Big 10. I don't love it tbh, but it's the future.
  4. This is why you should be immediately suspicious of anyone that relies on advanced or "adjusted" stats to make a football argument.
  5. This is correct. Washington was the worst possible matchup for us ex ante, and we would have had an easier go of it against Michigan and obviously Bama. But our secondary and pass rush are not very good, Penix et al played out of their minds, the refs never called them for anything, and Sark and PK chipped in with some brain farts and we got a close loss.
  6. I am gruntled. Fuck washington and their shit talking players and bitch ass fans.
  7. They are screwing in all the bolts for the engines and wings, right?
  8. Agree. I'm all in on Sark. But, yes, he has a few flaws. He gets too cute at times.
  9. The biggest difference between Sark and khakis when it comes to running the ball is Sark would never run on 2nd and 14, even against a shaky run D. We'd get two straight QE passes. Committing to the run means committing to the run.
  10. "Larry, you put the damn bolts on didn't you?" "Well, yeah, but you didn't say I needed to tighten them."
  11. If a different airline (United) is finding loose bolts across multiple relatively new planes, sounds like a Boeing issue, not an Alaska issue.
  12. I'm 99% sure it's a title thing for money. It's the title Choate had but he was not playcalling in any capacity.
  13. Well they did do really shoddy maintenance on the horizontal stabilizer that led to that crash off California about 20 years ago. I wouldn't rule it out.
  14. Most of the clips online purporting to demonstrate why our pass defense struggled just show Penix being Penix and making incredible throws against decent to good coverage. But there were critical plays that were over before they started that any average offense would have easily exploited. Take UW's critical 4th quarter drive after we pulled to within 6 and absolutely needed a stop; a score by them - any score - probably means the game is over. On 2nd and 11, we give up an easy pitch and catch with our corner way off in bail coverage on the fucking TE (who motioned outside just before the snap, which is what Rod B was talking about in the postgame). Then on 3rd and 2, on a must stop play, we again roll with soft zone coverage. There's a small chance 23 year old me could have made that throw. Maybe Burke was supposed to drop in a zone, but that would have left the flat for the back wide open. This is the shit that's maddening. I'm not upset we got beat on these plays. It's how we got beat. Pussy ass shit in a do or die situation. Upgrading personnel alone won't fix this.
  15. Bolts? It's all ball bearings these days.
  16. vegas nailed it.
  17. Michigan by 10. Washington can't run and can't stop the run. In all my years watching CFB, I don't ever recall a championship team with those two traits. Khakis will run the gameplan Sark should have pivoted to: pound the rock and keep it away from Penix. Their pass rush and secondary is much better than ours. I think Big Blue pulls away in the 4th.
  18. I may question our pass defense and Sark's playcalling at times, but I do not question his roster building and recruiting. Losing JT sucks, but it was anticipated and Sark will address it.
  19. He does not have the cover skills to be an NFL CB. Maybe safety . . . ?
  20. Is CDC going to get them a boat club membership? Too soon?
  21. Rumor is Watts was asked to move to Safety and said no.
  22. Def this. Here's a good discussion of these scheme issues. I think our defensive struggles came down to, in order of importance: 1) Washington's offense is really good and Penix had the best game of his career; hats off to them. 2) Many of our DBs are poor in coverage, in terms of both raw talent and development 3) PK has a tendency to dial up defenses against good passing offenses that sometimes seem destined to lose even before the ball is snapped (see the video above). On 2, some development issues that we have seen throughout the year are: a) our guys do not play the ball well in the air. Even when they are in good position and are not burned, they never turn for the ball. b) when they play up in man, they rarely if ever get good contact on the WRs to knock them off their routes and disrupt timing c) our safeties take bad angles and make poor reads On 3, I have a theory that Sark and PK's vision of the defense may not be completely aligned. During the season, Sark made comments at PCs that we needed to be more aggressive defensively. I've noticed we have played a lot more press man at the snap than we used to (during his Sugar Bowl availability, PK indicated some recent changes in pass defense had been made). We are not very good at it. Related to the video above, I think some of PK's blitz packages may be tied more to his legacy softer zoner coverages on the back end. This is just a theory though. If you listen to his PC, PK very much prefers a "make them drive the whole field" approach, but later in the season we played with much more aggressive alignments. Penix made us pay for this.
  23. counterpoint: we were undefeated against right-handed QBs this year.
