  1. Agreed. The first quarter showed the true talent disparity between these two teams. Then we decided the game was over and packed it in. A team with any semblance of killer instinct would be up like 35-7 right now.
  2. We don’t talk about it on Surly but Jones and even Banks have regressed this year
  3. Majors got absolutely destroyed in the sneak. Pushed right back into Ewers’s face.
  4. A Little Gas Then Smash The Fuck Out Of The Brakes
  5. For fuck sake
  6. So you’re saying we are happy when we play well, and unhappy when we don’t? You’re right, that’s crazy.
  7. Feels like we say the exact same thing about 5* HS WR every year for like the last 15 years now. "No big deal, there's always the portal/next year". Would be kinda nice to actually land them sometimes. Reviewing the last few years of HS WR recruiting to confirm/disprove my gut feeling: 2023 - pretty good. Landed Cook and Moore, missed on Hale (backed off supposedly) and Greathouse. 2022 - whiffed on Stewart, Burton, Coleman?? Commits were Brenen Thompson and Savion Red 2021 - missed on Earle. Landed X super late and with some luck. Missed on Quay Davis who appears to have promptly fallen off the face of the Earth. Other commits were Jaden Alexis (who?), Keithron Lee (who?), and Casey Cain. Yikes. 2020 - missed on JSN (ouch), Demas (sorta) and Quentin Johnson (ouch). Commits were Kelvontay Dixon, Omeire, and Dajon Harrison. 2019 - missed on Wilson, Dylan Wright, Wease (I think?), and Higgins (I think?). Missed/didn't miss/missed on the Bru McCoy saga. Commits were Whittington (yay), Jake Smith, Marcus Washington, and Kennedy Lewis. 2018 - missed Waddle and Rondale Moore. Commits were Eagles, Josh Moore, Woodard 2017 - huge year for WR. We were in on all of Reagor, Tyrell Shavers, Lamb, Netherly, Omar Manning, and Rambo and landed none of them. Commits were Damion Miller and Jordan Pouncey So out of the 6 classes prior to 2023, we landed two HS WR worth a damn (X, Whittington), one of whom kinda fell into our lap. Red is a RB now. Promising early returns on Cook and Moore. A lot of this ain't fair because it was previous staffs. My concern is that the portal is always going to be a gamble. It's worked out well so far but I don't see how you can count on landing a contributor every year. Really, really would like to see us land one of Ryan Williams or Dakorien Moore next year (or maybe this year???) I want to move on from the days of "Waddle/Wilson/JSN were never coming to Texas anyway."
  8. Every 6 months there's a news article about Alex Jones losing a court case, and the entire internet celebrates. There's a steady stream of people on Twitter/Reddit/Surly chiming in with takes like "oh yeah, I'm a bankruptcy lawyer, and I can tell you he's really fucked now". ...but the thing is - he isn't. Is he living in a shitty 1 bedroom apartment? Is he driving a 20 year old Altima with no hubcaps? Is he flipping burgers down at Jack in the Box to make ends meet? Nah, he's not. He was rich as fuck before and he's gonna stay rich as fuck for the rest of his life, no matter what. He and his lawyers will just keep kicking the can down the road forever. Face it, justice works completely differently for rich people. I fucking promise you, 6 or 9 months from now we'll be right back on this thread after reading the latest news article about how he's been fucking around and not paying and judge is really laying the hammer to him THIS TIME.
  9. Exactly. Gaetz and his group don't care about governing and there's enough of them to torpedo any nominee. They already had a speaker that gave them a lot but not EVERYTHING and they voted him out. What's going to be different this time?
  10. Gaetz knifes McCarthy, and then Scalise: no problem Conference votes fair and square against Jordan (twice!): "sWAmP tAcTiCs!!!!!11"
  11. I dunno. Betting on "moderate" Republicans to lose their spines has been a winner more often than not in the last few years.
  12. Hey, that percentage is moving down. Clearly the Democrats are coming around.
  13. First vote = 20 against Second vote = 22 against
  14. Lost another one, Molinaro-NY (yet again a Biden district). He has not gained any so far from the 2nd vote.
  15. Two so far (Fitzgerald-PA and Kean-NJ) and we're through the Ks. Both are from districts Biden won.
  16. I bought tix to today's game from the presale and I can't make it (I live in Houston). Looks like I'm gonna take a bath on them. Secondary market well below face is surprising to me. Anyway, I woke up feeling good this morning. Nothing is fucked here, dudes. Three game series with our two best starters ready to go. We hit the ball hard a bunch last night, just right at defenders.
  17. That 96% thing is clearly just a talking point someone jotted down on a napkin. "Just keep saying that, it's the best we've got right now"
  18. Fangraphs called his arm "plus" in their 2022 scouting report on him. Didn't mention it in the 2023 report. His 2022 shoulder injury was on his non-throwing shoulder.
  19. I think I've received payment from everyone except @txhorns and @shadow_operative2.0
  20. Final tally of vote two is -4, +2 (+1 more that didn't vote yesterday) for Jordan.
  21. Since this is all pointless, a bunch of Democrats should vote for Barack Hussein Obama or Hillary Clinton just to throw Fox News into histrionics.
  22. Reports are that Scherzer has about 70 pitches in him tonight. We need to close this out in Arlington. I don’t want any part of going back to Houston at 3-2.
  23. Arizona is terrible. How the fuck did they sweep the Dodgers?
