Just curious, where else have you been?  Grand Cayman is one of my least favorite Caribbean Islands.  I found it to be lacking a distinct culture and way too expensive.

GC, Turks, several stops through the Bahamas and DR at this point. We are going back to GC this year and then looking at Exuma or St Lucia for another trip this fall. The culture part doesn’t bother me as I’m looking for beaches, diving, fishing, and off resorts places to stay with limited people. Turks was nice on resort, but that’s not what we’re after.

  2. 3rd world may be a little strong, but not all that far off when comparing it to GC. We stayed in a house near Chalk Sound for part of the week and then bailed on that for Amanyara and the Gansevoort the rest of the week. It’s the only place we’ve been that we pretty well agreed after a couple of days we would skip making a return trip. The resorts were nice, but we typically try and stay off resort. The gated communities on Sapodilla Bay were nice though. It was also a couple of years ago around the time they had several home invasions occur.

Damn, I love that boat. 1000 lbs of steel and full ballast and that has the best wake I’ve ever hit. There is an all yellow one somewhere in Central Texas. It used to be a buddies boat here in Houston. I loved riding that boat.

Like classic cars, the new ones just don’t have the look and style of the older ones. The 90’s into the early 00’s were the best years for wakeboard boats with the SAN’s and 205’s. Everything is too angular and busy now and the new windshields and towers just aren’t my thing. It’s why I went backwards on boats and bought an X-1.

  4. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I’m not a fan of jet boats. They have their uses, but for where I’m at I can’t see it. However, if I was going to buy one I think I would go with manufacturers that have been in the jet boat market for a long time although that Open series is interesting.

  5. Grand Cayman is my favorite so far. Nice beaches, solid diving, things to do, and no 3rd world country feel like T&C and others have felt. Stay at Rum Point and avoid the cruise ships and high traffic areas of 7 Mike Beach. We’re renting a house either fall break or Christmas break again this year.

Does a diving board add to House insurance costs?

It didn’t affect mine. I’m with rage, I don’t see a point in having a pool if the kids can’t jump in the deep end. We have seated floats that anyone who wants to sit just floats around in. I would go for a complete 8 foot over a complete 4 foot.

  7. I went up in size and leveled it but nothing drastic, so calibration is probably part of it. However, I can tell a significant difference in just the rolling resistance of the tires though compared to the stock highway tires which is one of the main issues affecting mileage. I have a road trip next week, so I may baby it just to see what the max mileage is

On the diesel front, the same diesel is used in the new Range Rovers and we get close to 30 with it so I may be looking at it in the F150. In the RR you would never know you were driving a diesel other than on cold starts and then it’s all diesel.

I leveled my truck and put on 33" at tires and went from 18 to 16 highway at 75 to 80 mph as compared to stock. The guy getting in the 20s must be going 65, which would get me shot on my commute.

I’m at 14.8 with an aggressive AT. I ran back and forth to the beach the week I bought it and got 20 round trip running 75-80. The exact same trip now is around 15 or so.

  9. Went to Friday nights game, Wacha looked decent even if it was against the Reds. Bud Norris on the other hand looked like garbage and they got lucky he had a 3 run lead going in. There were fewer people in the seats at a Cards game than I can remember at any other games I’ve been to, but it was cold.

  10. I think Morton, Illinois (where he lived and where the guns were returned to him) would be Big 10 Country, so i’m not sure what joke you were going for there.

This guy clearly shouldn’t have been on the streets after reading his back story. Also, his Dad clearly needs to be charged with something, but why would the cops revoke his rights to the guns and then turn them over to the Dad? That’s just asking for trouble.

I’ve been in my fair share of Waffle Houses after midnight in my younger days and nothing good ever comes of it.

  11. No white creamy stuff for me. Don’t like mayo, don’t like sour cream, don’t like ranch, I prefer my condiments to be yellow.

The only thing that belongs on bologna and white bread is hot sauce just for the record and preferably Louisiana original. That was the lunch of champions at the golf course along with a few ice cold Budweiser’s and hot sauce slathered pork rinds.

AMZN can't provide it at a profit, either, but they're held to a different P&L standard than Best Buy.

That tide has to turn at some point.

I just can’t see not going to a store for most things. I don’t live in an overly large City though so it’s no significant issue to stop and get most things. I see people I know, clients, friends, etc while I’m out. I still go to Best Buy if I want a TV so I can see them. I go to the golf store if I want golf clubs so I can swing a few. I go pick my own steak out at the butcher so I get what I want. Picking up other stuff at the same time isn’t difficult. Bunch of anti social people.

5 points, and for a Republican in Tennessee to lose by that much is massive

You’re way over selling it just for the record. We’re not talking about some random Democrat beating a normal Republican. Bredesen is well thought of and well known and also comes from the same mold as John Tanner and other Democrats in the state that have done well even as the state has made a hard flip to 80%+ rep on the R side. Blackburn isn’t your typical R in the state and is not all that well thought of. It will be a bigger surprise inside the state if Bredesen doesn’t win.

  14. Anyone surprised by the Bredesen/Blackburn numbers doesn’t keep up with politics in TN. Blackburn is a nutcase and Bredesen has name recognition, a Blue Dog Democrat record, and was adamantly against a state income tax. Although it is controlled by R’s now, the state historically has been conservatively democrat and he fits that mold. Plus Corker is supporting him which helps.

  15. It shouldn’t cost any more to add a heater on now than when new. Ours is around the corner from all the other equipment on it’s own pad with a water line to and from it. We went with gas for the ability to warm it when the air temp is low. However, if I could do it again we would get an electric heat pump unit. It costs about $100 to heat it up and no one wants to swim when the air temp is low anyways. If it’s not in the 60’s/70’s we have zero people interested in getting in the pool. The best use for a heater is to extend the season when the night time temps are getting cool but it’s still nice during the day. For that electric is the way to go because it will maintain the temp for a lot lower cost.

You also have to take into account the cost of getting gas to the location which we didn’t think about when pricing it. Gas was about $1,000 cheaper than electric here but then it cost me almost $2k to get the gas lines run. We also had to have a new larger meter put in because the one on the house wouldn’t accommodate the gas flow needed. Then the utility company had to run larger gas lines from the street to the meter and dig up part of the street to put in a larger valve at the street connection. Every time you started the heater it would pull all the gas out of the line and the emergency shut off at the street would kick in. It was a complete pain in the ass.

  16. Wife was complaining about not feeling good at supper tonight and thought she was running a fever. She uses the kids forehead thermometer and says something to the effect of see I have a fever. She turned it around where I could see it and it’s showing 98.2. I just turned around and walked off.

    Tax time.

"It just doesn't seem like we made that much money last year (we being just me, in our case)."

    Don't I know it honey.

Like my kids belief in Santa Claus, I can only assume my wife believes that there are money trees somewhere on our property that just mass produce $100 bills. It’s the only explanation at this point other than the fact that she just has no concept of money. I gave her a rough total a few weeks ago on how much is being spent this year on trips and she just couldn’t believe it was anywhere near the amount mentioned. I actually undershot the total.
