  1. Only eat local, skip the corporate owned chains. We’ve seen a number of our local owned places thrive through this as people have done everything they can to support them. I can’t remember the last time we ate somewhere in the City we live that we don’t know the owner. It’s been years, not months. CNN article on what’s going on. Again, there are a bunch of factors. It can’t be pinned on one issue. https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/11/economy/unemployment-benefits-work-incentive/index.html
  2. I don’t know what a Taco Deli is, but it would be next to impossible for a fast casual type place to do $2.2M in a month from one location. I do work for high grossing McDonalds, CFA’s, other types and the high side is $550k a month. At a $20 average meal ticket open from 6-3 30 days a month, that is a 7 person a minute average out the door.
  3. The economics of a restaurant where they pay $2.13 an hour is typically a restaurant where profitability is low because tables turn slowly, food costs and other costs are higher, etc. The only way for owners to make decent money in those deals is to have one that is ultra popular or own multiple restaurants. Fast casual places pay more because they turn more, employees serve more customers, tips are generally low if any at all, etc. When we eat at a nice restaurant, we typically overtip and we generally also tip at fast casual places that allow it. For those that say increase their pay, don’t complain when the cost of the meal increases proportionately.
  4. They are not independent contractors. Tip income is reported through a W-2 and part of your unemployment earnings just like your base pay. If you work for a place that isn’t handling it correctly, you could pick it up like 1099 income I suppose but most are handling it more correctly than not at this point. They have to guarantee a minimum wage, so they have to at a minimum be reporting some tip income.
  5. It’s not slorched and it’s not CR, it is a piece of the problem in some cases. People are hard to come by for a multitude of reasons some of which relate to what they are currently getting from the government between unemployment benefits and stimulus payments. Increased hiring demands in other industries are also part of it which is why you see SC/WY cutting off federal unemployment with sub 5% unemployment and labor shortages in their states. Spend any time with someone that owns a restaurant and they will tell you the same thing. Between food price increases, availability of product, and availability of people a lot are having to run limited hours right now. I have several that only open 3-4 days a week now because they can’t staff the rest of the week. Demand is up enough they are doing fine on that schedule, so I’m not sure how many will go back to the old schedule.
  6. For the most part it is clearly the best city in the state to go to college in, not the best “college town”. From a college town perspective, they don’t really exist any more. There are still some “college towns” around my area that are built around the schools with Oxford, Starkville, maybe Athens, etc but most major universities have ended up inside larger metropolitan areas as the cities have grown around them. Even with Oxford and Starkville, outside of the main street areas there isn’t much to do there and you’re leaving town if you want to get into anything. I would rather go to a school in a City with something else going on at this point.
  7. 3 weeks to go until I finally get down to the beach and get some fishing in. I didn’t get to do any spring fishing this year. Sucks to miss the best part of the year, but shit like work occasionally gets in the way.
  8. Because this morning I was trying to decide where to dump my Mindmed profits and picked UUUU and RXMD instead of ALPP this time.
  9. You have the right plan for a Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge trip. Day or two of hiking and seeing Cades Cove and a day or two of doing stuff that kids have fun with.
  10. Before we bought a house at the beach, we traveled this side of the country a lot. You go NE or West Coast and I’m not good for much, but anything south of the Mason Dixon line I’ve traveled extensively. I also have a lot with meetings for work and kid’s cheer, so we usually tack on a couple extra days wherever those may be which has added quite a bit. With kids, there is nothing wrong with a day or two in Gatlinburg / PF. I’m not going for a week, but we’ll take them for a weekend. There is plenty of hiking in the area, plenty of stuff that kids like to do, etc, it just is what it is. If the wife and I are going, it’s Asheville. If the kids are going, it’s PF.
  11. Savannah - we stayed along the port and it was interesting sitting there watching the boats come in and out. We ate at Mrs Wilkes and the Crab Shack on the way out to Tybee, both were good. Past that we walked the downtown area and the waterfront. Gatlinburg - it’s a tourist trap although you can stay in a cabin outside of town that will be nice enough. Main things to do would be hike the big trails, go to the aquarium, go to Dollywood or any number of kid places, etc. it’s fine for what it is, my kids enjoy going every now and then. You can stay at the convention center if you want the kids to have an indoor water park to keep them busy.
  12. The older Supra’s were one of the only manufacturers that actually followed the curve of the windshield lines with the tower supports. They kept everything tight together where Nautique (except on the 226) and Mastercraft used the more squared off base. Malibu was into the single supports by the mid 2000’s which started the trend of towers I’m not a fan of. I don’t think Nautique or Mastercraft did a playpen bow that far back either. Supra/Moomba used the rounded off passenger seat in the mid to late 2000’s also where most everyone else used the squared off seating. Lot of subtle differences between boat lines.
  13. The best boats for my money came from that era. Electronics had not taken over everything yet, the lines are super clean, the tower/windshield flowed in a clean arc, interiors were simple and clean, etc. I punch myself in the nuts every morning for selling my X-1 last year before the pricing madness took off. I was planning to buy an X-2 or VLX and everything just went stupid before I could get one bought.
  14. What kind of shape is the interior in? Any major issues?
  15. Supra, maybe late 2000’s early 2010’s would be my guess.
  16. Interesting. What kind of oats? Steel cut? Rolled? Rolled, you don’t want ones that have been processed. There are a bunch of varieties out there, but I use 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, about a tsp of peanut butter, mix it, top with cinnamon, and refrigerate over night. Drizzle with honey and top with banana and blueberries and eat. I don’t like hot oatmeal but I pretty well eat this every day.
  17. No, you don’t cook the oats. They soften in the almond milk.
  18. The best breakfast food is a properly made biscuit. Put honey on it, put jelly on it, put sausage and eggs on it, put gravy on it, it doesn’t matter because it works with damn near everything. Doctor said i had to give up bread, so now I’m on an overnight oatmeal kick. Good oats, almond milk, cinnamon, and peanut butter in the fridge overnight topped with a little honey, blueberries, and a banana makes for a solid breakfast actually.
  19. The mutt is obsessed with pinecones lately. On his walks he will pick one up and carry it the whole way as proud as he can be of it. Tonight he found one he had stashed and was determined to get in the house with it. It’s about time for a bath and haircut.
  20. My daughters are teenagers and they control the music, that may very well have something to do with it. I’m not sure One Direction or Taylor Swift are going to attract the ride a longs. Music is one place we have failed them as parents. They just listen to shit.
  21. I clearly ride on the wrong lakes based on your experiences versus mine. Maybe it’s the kids that are always with me that throws them off though.
  22. I would probably be in if you’re doing a hundred, dynasties can be more time consuming than redrafts.
  23. Anyone want to shoot me a first rounder for a couple undrafted guys? I may even throw in Gleybar for the right one.
  24. The problem with Parsons is that you just had two stud LB’s go in the 2nd after the Cowboys picked to the Giants and Browns. Either could easily be the top LB in the draft and they were sitting right there for the taking with a second.
  25. I enjoyed making the drive once, fly back from KW though if you can. Also, it doesn’t matter what you drive, you’re only doing 40-45 the whole way so a Mustang or something similar works fine.
