  1. Forgot to add... be prepared to stop, turn around, and re-ride segments of the trail at Gateway because it is terribly marked. Compounding all of that is the fact that a disc golf course runs through it so it’s very easy to make wrong turns the first time you ride it. My next trip over there should go much smoother now that I feel like I’ve got a pretty good feel for the layout of the trail, but it was definitely a little frustrating on the first go-round.
  2. Oh, don’t get me wrong... I’m good with easy these days as well and RL is in the regular rotation since it’s right down the road. Just not a fan of dirt trails that may as well be an un-paved hike and bike trail. I may be wrong, but I think that’s pretty much how gateway started out... or at least that was the way it was referenced back in the day, which always stuck with me and kept me away. That said, finally gave it a visit today and it’s actually a pretty decent trail. Definitely on the flatter side, with a lot of twists and turns through trees (much like River Legacy), but they’ve put in a lot of wood and dirt features that allow you to get a little wild but can also be avoided if you so choose. Outside of the heat, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back. I admittedly suck at hitting bigger jumps, and they have built some big ones there that I won’t be happy until I can comfortably hit them. And yeah, Sansom is a beast. I’ve ridden it several times and left zonked every time. It physically and mentally fries me, so nothing but respect to your buddy that does it on a SS.
  3. Never ridden that one, as it’s on the wrong side of Dallas from me. I hear good things though. Not sure where you’re located, but all the FWMBA trails went green today as well. Gateway and the new Fossil Creek trail (NRH area) might be good for your relative that’s just getting into it. Both appear to be pretty beginner friendly... not too long or technical. Thinking I might run down to gateway tomorrow to finally check it out since a lot of the trails I normally ride are still closed (outside of big cedar). I’ve always written it off as too easy/probably boring, but apparently they’ve added a couple fun looking jump lines that I’ve been wanting to check out.
  4. I’ve been building fence and corrals wrong my whole damned life, apparently. So much wasted time and money connecting four sides together.
  5. Northshore just opened back up, which meant it was time to try out my latest purchase. 2021 Ibis Mojo 4. Still need to set it up tubeless and really dial in the suspension, but this thing is insanely good. Most playful and nimble bike I’ve ever ridden. Was hoping the Scott genius I bought a while back would be the quiver killer I was wanting that I could take to XC trails and bike parks alike, but it was just too cumbersome and lumbering for XC use. This thing seems like it’s gonna fit the bill.
  6. The call is coming from inside the house
  7. Gas melts a lot of plastics. I'm surprised it doesn't melt those bags. Give it time... it likely did about 3 miles down the road
  8. I’ve forgotten our 4 year anniversary is tomorrow about 5 times in the last two days. I’m not anticipating there’ll be sex tomorrow night. Or I should say... I probably won’t be included if there is
  9. I had almost forgotten just how unbearable Screamin’ A Smith was to listen to. And in reference to the jaywalking video, not sure why the kid felt the need to tell the cops he had a mental illness.. I’m pretty sure they already assumed he was an aggy
  10. I’ve thought that it needed something like that from the first time I saw the original drafts. Something to complete the logo. A simple iron arch angling out towards the field would put it up enough to not interfere with the walkway and would make it the complete steer head. Hell, run pipes through the arch legs to the “nostrils” and shoot steam from them when the team runs out
  11. I was under the impression that we all were using profile images that perfectly resembled our appearances. You, sir, are no Prison Mike. Immamac, however, is a dead ringer for Steve Jobs.
  12. Honestly, I had been assuming the opposite. Given the reports early on in the pandemic that immunity after having covid may not last as initially thought (and I honestly haven’t kept up with that info much since then, so that thinking may have changed), I pretty much figured it would mean getting boosters or multiple vaccinations per year.
  13. I’m just going to go ahead and make the non-scientific claim that Americans don’t know how to properly wear masks and all data collected regarding mask effectiveness in America should be thrown out. The amount of chin diapers and masks pulled down below the nose that I’ve seen every day throughout this past year is astronomical. And then you’ll see the few people who actually are wearing theirs correctly recognize a friend, and proceed to walk up and pull their masks down to have a long chat two feet from each other. I won’t even start on the aggy band cutting holes in their masks to play their instruments, bc well, it’s aggy and the bar is set extremely low for expecting anything resembling intelligent ideas over there. back on topic though, for the DFW surlyers, market street is another place to check if you’re looking for the vax. I called yesterday morning and they had plenty of availability at the Mansfield location. Was able to get myself and my in-laws appts. It sends you to the national call line, so they’ll look at all stores near your area and find you a spot if there’s one to be had
  14. As expected, no sign of intelligent life
  15. Literally just learning about ice dams. Walked outside to see ice forming down one of the cedar columns on our front porch and icicles forming on one of the porch overhang vents. Knew it wasn’t a bad roof as it’s relatively new and had been recently inspected. Glad I read about this and hopefully it’s just this spot. Will try and knock as much of it off as possible when I get home.
  16. Island Lake (ILC). Only did one summer but would have loved to have gone back a couple more times. Beautiful area and very mild summer weather.
  17. That. Teaching kids and teens how to mountain bike over the summer. Ranged from newbie classes to advanced kids wanting to learn how to pick better lines down the mountain. Pretty fun summer of riding trails in the pocono mountains all day, every day.
  18. Too drunk to go back and look for your original post, but if the meat of it is that you’re going to shut off your water once the thaw hits, yes, turn your water heaters to pilot mode. My mom had her water cut off (by the city) and her water heaters were making gurgling/strange noises during that time that they were not receiving water pressure. I’m not a plumber, just have general knowledge, but that tells me that the heaters were boiling the small amount of water left in them. While that possibly may not have detrimental effects, it’s easy enough to shut off the heaters for a bit, just in case. It certainly won’t hurt, especially after we get back above freezing. Ended up scrolling back to look for your original post... again, drunk and have nothing better to do. Even if you’re wanting to shut off the main before the thaw hits, I’d definitely shut off the water heater when you shut off the main. With no water moving through pipes/faucets, it won’t benefit you to have heated water, so may as well shut it off and not risk overheating the water heater (as long as it’s insulated or in a warmed area).
  19. Dfw surly-ites. While I would love to offer our spare bedroom, and would have no qualms in non-covid times, my wife is 8 months pregnant so we’re in hermit level social-distancing mode. That said, ANYTHING else one of y’all up here may need (propane bottles, wood, water, groceries, camp stove... you name it, we have it and are more than happy to help out any way we can. We’re in Grapevine, but I can run whatever y’all need over if y’all don’t have 4wd. Just pm me.
  20. Ours has been running nonstop (haven’t lost power yet, thankfully), but still had a nice sheet of ice on top. Told my wife I’d break it up a bit later today. Went upstairs for my morning constitutional, and started hearing a constant banging sound from outside. Peaked out the window to see my pregnant bride whacking away at the ice with a pry bar. Haha. Ours still had pockets of water, so I don’t think it placed any strain on the tiles, but I’d imagine it’d help in your case, especially since it isn’t running. Couldn’t hurt, at the very least.
  21. Looks like I’m not the only one here that needs to get my prostate checked
