  1. Rode two laps at horseshoe this evening. Sometimes your body feeling “right” and perfect riding weather overlap to produce an incredible ride, and that definitely happened today. As soon as I hit the little climbing entrance into the trail, I knew it was gonna be a damn good ride. Felt fast and smooth. Definitely needed that after a slog of a ride on northshore last week, where I just felt clunky and couldn’t find my rhythm. Damn, @sasquatch69, I hate hearing that. I absolutely love that trail. Just don’t normally have the time to get down there and get a decent ride in. Gonna have to make some time to ride it in full a couple more times , just in case
  2. Definitely a repainted/rebranded GT, and therefore almost certainly stolen at some point. Looks like an older Zaskar, but I’m not sure when they stopped with the design of the top tube extending through the seat tube.
  3. Yeah, I rode it yesterday afternoon and you could tell that there were many riders who were ignorant of the trail being closed, or just didn’t care. Quite a few spots of heavy rutting that had already hardened. It is what it is… our little sport got super popular as a way for people to get out of the house during early covid, and a huge influx of new riders brings more people that more mirrors a cross-section of our society instead of traditional mountain bikers … including some that just care about their “feel goods” and not how it affects anyone that comes through later or has to put in manual labor to fix their damage. I don’t do the Facebook drama though, just shake my head and roll on. But yeah, that DORBA page is always drama. If it’s not bitching about riding closed trails, it’s strava dweebs complaining that slow riders or walkers were not moving out of their way, or that they “gasp” saw an e-bike on a trail that they’re not allowed on. I’ve always had great interactions with riders on the trails, but like with everything else, social media brings out the worst characters of the group and gives them center stage.
  4. Hell yeah! Think I’m gonna hit up northshore around 2:30-3ish These are the times I'm glad to have the ss roadie. Work and life have been busy, too, so I am glad to be able to ride for an hour in an hour I hear ya. Been so busy between work, daddy day-care, and trips out of town that I hadn’t made it to the trails in about a month. Finally had some chances over this past week to get away for rides, so it only makes sense that the trails would all be closed. Running the boy around the neighborhood on the ss has definitely been nice and hopefully kept me in decent shape, but it just doesn’t quite give me the juice like trail rides do.
  5. Same, man… same. I’ve been checking the DORBA app like a crack addict. Cedar hill SP opened this morning, everything else is still red, so I guess I’ll be heading to Cedar Hood this evening
  6. Posted original comment before actually reading through the article, just saw “Wrangler” and “ATG”. Didn’t realize there were actually multiple options of these pants. After reading the article, I realized they focused on the “jogger” style. Just wanted to note that I didn’t get the jogger version. And honestly, unless you are into the jogger pants look, you don’t have to get that version. The ones I bought do not have the integrated belt or the cinch cuffs, but are slim fit and a little slimmer but not tight at the bottom (don’t recall which ATG they are off hand). I do wear a nylon belt with them, but with most everyone riding 1X drivetrains, getting cuffs caught in the chainring isn’t an issue these days, and the cuffs on mine don’t seem to be quite loose enough that they’d be an issue even if that weren’t the case. I have yet to snag a chainring or low branch in the hundreds of miles I’ve logged in them. Scrolled through some of the comments in the article and it sounds like many of the commenters wear the same version that I wear. Just food for thought if you’re like me and think the “jogger” look is a little goofy.
  7. I’ve gotta get back over there. Been short on time lately, so just been rotating between northshore and horseshoe since they’re right next door. But curiosity about the east side is becoming an itch I need to scratch, and those photos don’t help.
  8. That’s crazy that other MTBers are riding with these as well (the ATGs). I randomly grabbed a couple pairs of them online a couple years ago for non-riding purposes. After receiving them, I immediately noticed they’d make pretty good riding pants, since they have some stretch and are pretty slim below the knee. I’ve been wearing them exclusively when riding in cold weather ever since. Everybody has their own preferences when it comes to riding clothing, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed Also, finally found my single speed a couple weeks ago. It’s been pretty damn fun running the boy around the neighborhood on it. Really tempted to take it out on one of the tamer trails (likely River Legacy) and see what it can handle (or more accurately… what I can handle on it). Gonna need to slap a flat bar on it before I do though. The BMX style bar is perfect for keeping me positioned up above the kiddo’s shotgun seat, but feels awkward as hell otherwise. Seller’s pic:
  9. Ah, okay. Had a feeling that must have been where I missed the turn-off, but hadn’t studied the trail map since riding it. And yeah, those features are pretty damn fun. Gave the wooden jump line a couple go’s and made a fool out of my self as always, but enjoyed the hell out of the other stuff
  10. Nope. Ended up riding the west loop twice, like you did. Forgot my phone that day and didn’t really study the trail map beforehand, as I wasn’t expecting the trail to be so poorly marked, so I missed the turnoff to hit the East side. Definitely going to try again and hit that side next time, just to try my hand at the DH-ish jump line (even though I still suck at jumping). I’ve heard the East side is the better side, though. Hit northshore the other day just before the front moved in. Still have a ways to go to get back into decent riding shape, but felt much better after getting warm (and working off the Cuban sandwich from lunch in the first couple miles). Oncor has clear cut all of their previously untouched powerline easements and it’s just ass ugly. I get it, it’s just what the power companies do, but I’ll still bitch and whine about it every time I ride it from now on. I didn’t even recognize parts of the trail that were cleared, after having ridden it regularly for 12 years. It’s amazing how different the same trail can feel when it’s surrounded by trees versus open land.
  11. Yep, that’s a fun little trail and it definitely changed my opinion of it (which was based solely off of what I’d heard from others… and was probably stuff I’d heard from back before they’d put a lot of work into it). Haven’t been able to make it back after that ride in the summer, unfortunately, but definitely planning to add it to the rotation.
  12. I’ve always ridden with a chamois under “baggy” shorts. Just don’t have enough natural padding in my skinny ass for today’s saddles. Never had any issues until about 4-5 years ago, when it just started to feel less comfortable having the chamois rubbing against my skin. So I started wearing my athletic-style boxer briefs (under armor, adidas, etc) under the chamois, and it’s made a world of difference. May or may not be related to what’s causing your issue
  13. Damn, if it was a large or XL I’d be game. Haven’t checked Kona but I’m an XL in most brands. Appreciate the offer though!
  14. I hear ya on recovering from time off the bike. Leading up to October, I was getting multiple rides in per week, and by September was having some of the best rides I’ve had in years. Felt like I was flying down the trails with relatively little effort. Then October hit. Spent nearly all of October trying to get my wife a really good buck I’d seen with her bow, then got the snip-snip on November 1. Put me out of commission way longer than I would’ve expected. Only time I’ve been on the bike since September was a quick trip up to Bentonville at the end of October… until tonight. Finally decided it was time to see if the berries were up for it and charged up my lights. Ended up riding horseshoe since I was short on time and it’s the nearest trail. Had a good time, definitely enjoyed getting in a night ride as I haven’t done that in quite some time, but decided I was done after just one lap. Felt slow and out of shape, lower back was screaming, and lungs were burning due to the cold dry air. Probably wouldn’t have bothered me as much if it weren’t for the fact that I know just how good I was riding before the hiatus. But I’ve been looking to take a page out of the twicehorn book and get a little ss for a while now, just to cruise around the neighborhood when I don’t have time to run to a trail, and this experience was probably the thing to get me to pull the trigger. I need something to drag around the toddler wagon anyway without scratching up my carbon and wearing down my knobbies.

    Leach #6???

I clicked on this fully expecting a quote from Leach saying he was going to “work up a number 6” on aggy.
  16. Needed to get out of the metroplex for a bit, so we took a camping trip over to Arkansas this past weekend. Got some rides in at mount nebo S.P. and then the Northwoods trail system at Hot Springs. Really fun trails with lots of elevation, tech, and flow. Likely headed to eureka springs next month with bike in-tow. Need to start making mtb trips over there a monthly thing.
  17. That’s what perplexes me. Granted, years of alcohol have ruined my memory retention, but I feel like we’ve really tried to force the running between the tackles in these first two games. That’s fine with a great o-line, but we simply don’t have that. We should be getting the ball to Bijan outside the tackles and let him do his thing in making guys miss. Tonight it was glaringly obvious that we’re not strong enough up front to impose our will and wear them out inside. I assumed the half time adjustment would be to get bijan running outside in space, but alas…
  18. We, uh… we are not the same. A lot of time gets taken off the clock when I’m playing from behind.
  19. How does he miss the open goal opportunity that was right in front of him? ”Today is a big win for the conference from where it was six weeks ago. BYU Is a big national draw that will open new time slots. UCF and Cincinnati could compete for conference championships from Day 1. Houston.”
  20. Cargo shorts and the fatty in boots are the two most accurate depictions of aggy I could imagine. Glad to see them permanently memorialized in front of the Kroger there
  21. Yep. Just switched our lawn to Bermuda this spring, while the rest of the neighborhood still has St.A. They crushed my lawn, while the rest of the neighborhood still looks pristine. They came out of the one area of the lawn that was already Bermuda and spread out to the new stuff. Luckily I caught them in time (relatively) and the granular/spray applications last night and this morning appear to have done their job quite quickly. Couldn’t find a single live one this evening
  22. Those bastards finally showed up in my yard today… or at least that’s when I noticed them and the damage they’ve already done. Luckily they hadn’t spread out too far just yet. Another day or two and they might’ve taken my whole lawn, bc they are thick. Spread out granules this evening and hitting them with the spray in the morning.
