  1. I'm pretty meh too.  It's not like Arteta has a great coaching pedigree yet, but for some reason I was optimistic when it looked like he was the leading candidate.

  2. These are some of the worst players since the very early years.  They all know they can't beat Dom or Wendell, yet all seem content to do nothing about it.  May as well just let Dom and Wendell make fire for the big check right now.  And what was the point of splitting the vote?  That seemed to be decided during tribal, but was a very risky thing to do.  If Kellyn and Angela had voted Dom, he would be gone, but nope, you underdogs should just keep targeting each other because that's how you are going to take out the favorites.

Some of the cast from previous seasons have to be feeling a bit cheated that they didn't get to play against this group.  At this point, I want Angela to make it to final tribal just hear her reason for why she thinks she deserves to win.

For those of us who are current Austin homeowners and would be happy to downsize to a more central location, there's an obvious dilemma. I live alone in a 3/2 house (1500 sf) in South Austin between West Gate and Brodie about midway between Davis and Wm Cannon. My mortgage, homeowners insurance, and property taxes currently cost me about $1250 per month (though the property taxes keep rising).

There is absolutely zero "product" on the market that I could own to get a little closer to downtown and have any semblance of a backyard or any sort of outdoor space. As a matter of fact, in a lot of those old apartment complexes from the 1960s off Manchaca north of Ben White that have been fixed up and turned into condos, a one-bedroom would cost more than what I'm living in now. Hell, even a two-bedroom apartment in my neighborhood would cost more.

As a rational person, I understand that where I live is an extremely inefficient use of space. But, also, as a rational person, why would I give this up? I have a very easy commute to my downtown workplace and have even taken to riding the bus to save on gas, get exercise, and preserve my sanity. It's awesome.

Give me a tangible financial incentive to downsize and I'd be happy to take it (after my 12-yo, 90-pound mutt who actually uses the backyard passes).

I don't think you are part of the problem.  I may be biased, though, as I live in the same hood, also alone in a 3/2, though mine is squeezed into only 1000 sf (no 90-pound dog).  I pay more than you do, but only bought a year and a half ago, and would have had to look in a more remote burb if I had waited much longer.  One thing that is different in my case is that I currently work from home, so my commute is a walk of 30 feet.  I would rather be more central, but it isn't going to happen on my income, and I have nothing bad to say about South Austin.

depends on the road - length, traffic density, nominal speed, location context (e.g. is it the only connection to a low-traffic winding rural road?).

its a give and take.  riders have a right to the road.  that said, if someone rides in route where they are often in conflict with vehicular traffic... then they have chosen very poorly.

This.  There are a number of factors that determine where I ride.  I do not know anyone who prefers to ride in those situations.  Sometimes a cyclist cannot reasonably avoid such situations any more than a driver could.

  5. I don't think we will see the Ozzy or Colby challenge runs again, where every challenge is suited for the agile athlete.  They have clearly gone to a lot of effort to try even the playing field for challenges, and I think that is a good thing.  That said, I strongly believe that the challenges are set up to favor specific contestants.  Some seasons you see a lot of puzzles, others, like this one, have been light on brain requirements, and the ones that they have had were not particularly difficult.  It's all part of the production manipulation.

I wonder if placement payoff ever comes in to play. From everything I’ve seen, one seems to earn about $10,000 for every vote survived after the first jury member.

So, stick with your three, guarantee that u get around $100k plus a minor shot at a mil OR make a move at 8, target yourself, earn ~ 30-40k and no shot at a mil.

    I’d go with the former.

If this is true, then they should consider changing the payout structure to where all jury members get the same.  If you don't think you can win, then there is more incentive to not try then to try.  Just sit back, don't rock the boat, and collect your check while watching someone else win.  It makes for very boring game play.  It would explain why people who don't really need the money are often the ones who play the hardest.

I was going to say that Dom was an exception to that, but he has certainly been given a lot of help, which makes it look like he is playing harder than he is.

i'd forgotten he said that.  i was actually a bit miffed because it seemed like he had spoiled the plan and would cause wendell to play his idol.  guess he knew all along that they were voting for chelsea, so it was all just for show.  i wonder if dom and wendell saying they were worried was all just for show too.  maybe  they knew all along that donathan and laurel were with them.

Or maybe Donathan was actually trying to get Wendell to play his idol, but it didn't work.

  8. I agree with Wendell's edit.  No way was he going home.  It was a golden opportunity for Donathan and Laurel to make a move, but they continue to sit on their hands and wait and wait and wait.  What would it have mattered if Wendell played his idol?  Chelsea would go home anyway, and they would still have numbers to get rid of him next time.  Now he still has an idol to play and is good at challenges.  They may not get another chance.  I don't understand the excessive fear of retribution.  Voting numbers still matter.

I suppose the thought is that Dom and Wendell won't want to face each other in final tribal, so one will turn on the other eventually, leaving room to sneak in with absolutely nothing accomplished to win votes.  It's definitely an easier path than actually doing anything proactive to control the game, but it is a losing strategy.  This season is very meh.

I was actually a little surprised that Dom didn't go for the advantage, though if he had, his clingy codependent wife would have been pissed.

I found it strange that only one person had a significant other as their loved one.  I guess that speaks more to the demographics of this year's cast...mostly a bunch of millennials.  Even more strange was the extreme butthurt of missing out on a reward with sibling love.  Don't get me wrong, I love my sibs too, but some of that seemed a bit "so that's how it is in their family."

  9. I've been watching it on demand, and have been getting to see short behind the scenes discussions after each episode.  The killing of his friend somewhat evolved on the spot.  The writing took it there, but it wasn't planned ahead of time.  Cool stuff, and possibly my current favorite 30 minutes of television.

Fulham or Villa for that final spot. Either would be fun to have back in the Premiership.

Fuck that.  Let's get some new old blood.  Go Derby!

  11. Looks like the producers tried to shake up the Pagong situation by creating two Pagong situations, thus expediting it.  Nice!

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, that Dom found another advantage.  I think he will eventually try to use it to get rid of Wendell.

Michael almost pulled it off.  I missed who voted for whom, but I assume he is who voted for Wendell.  If he had voted Laurel, he'd still be playing, but there was no way for him to know that the girls had bought his story and were targeting each other.  It would have been very interesting if he had been able to convince Donathan to loan him the idol.  Would he have just used it for show as promised, or played it?  What if Donathan had loaned him half?  Would half an idol be convincing?

It's a bummer that Donathan used his idol, but better safe than sorry, and at least he didn't waste it on saving Jenna.  I'm not sure which I enjoyed more.  The look on her face when Donathan played the idol for himself, or the one where she realized she had been played by the Naviti alliance.  I would have rather seen a Naviti person head to the jury, but since that wasn't happening, at least there was a little drama.

Chelsea is turning into an immunity whore.  She has received almost no air time, so I have zero hope that she will go much further.

  12. I lived there from 2001-2013.  It's the smallest feeling big city you'll ever be in.  That spoked wheel city design really helps get you around in a hurry, but you won't need to hurry because it feels laid back.  It's cycling friendly, if you are into that sort of thing, other than the loose dogs that you may encounter depending on where you ride.  The population is not as ethnically diverse as Houston, as educated as Austin, or as materialistic as Dallas.  It is culturally unique, and obviously proud of it's Mexican roots.  If I ever leave Austin and wanted to stay in Texas, I would certainly consider living there again.  It took an adjustment at first, but I grew to love it.
