1st lesson in Survivor 101- When you think you are controlling the game and get too over confident- you probably will be getting voted out sooner rather than later.

Best shot to win as of right now (not including whoever comes back)-

    1. Gavin

    2. Lauren

    3. Victoria

    4. Devins

    5. Aurora

    6. Julie

Gavin doesn't have the best personality but he has been behind the biggest moves of the game. He has made the correct decisions to flip the votes at the right time and has the resume that is needed to win. I also think he is well liked by those that have already been voted out.

I think you are undervaluing Devens.  He has a lot of fans on the jury.  There is a big gap between the men and women, and the latter could be in any order, though I think you have Julie in the right spot.

  2. Yep.  I'm not a Devens fan, but am even less of a Ron fan, and love it when smug "I'm controlling the game" asshats find out that they aren't.  He already learned that lesson once this season, but was unfortunately not eliminated for it.

Without  knowing who is going to return from Exile Island, Devens has to be the favorite to win at this point.  I would never vote for someone who has been eliminated, but I doubt the other players share my opinion.

Victoria is playing a dangerous game where she likes to initiate or go along with a blindside, but then votes with the other side to cover her ass if it doesn't happen.  Wheelhouse aside, I don't like that game play at all.

I'm glad to see that Lauren is at least thinking about doing more than trying to win challenges.  It's about time, but unless she steps it up, it will be too  little too late.

Julie?  I'm looking for some reason to appreciate her game, but...meh.  I can see her being taken to the final three as a "person who can't possible win."

Gavin is playing, and playing well.  If he had more personality, I'd like his chances more.  It shouldn't matter, but it's a social game, and it makes a difference.

I don't know what it is, but I find myself still pulling for Aurora.  I don't always understand her strategy, or more accurately I don't always think she has one, but she certainly owns her game, and isn't trying to win by making friends.  I can at least respect that.

I think he is referring to Theon swinging the bow at wights when he was out of arrows.  I don't know why this would be a sticking point.  We have seen over the seasons that wights can be taken out with conventional weapons, but they would only be mostly dead, and could be re-raised by the Night King.  I don't think Theon would stop to think about the consequences at that point.

This post perfectly encapsulates this thread, and its frustrating that the one faction of posters causing all of this consternation doesn't see it. You listened to a podcast whose opinion you agreed with- y'all think that episode was transcendent TV. I on the other hand share an opinion with the myriad of articles and podcasts and vloggers and surly posters who weren't blown away by the episode, who think it was the worst of the big battle episodes, and who feel very strongly that this episode strayed away from the very formula which made GoT great to begin with- that it more resembles a traditional bit TV/Hollywood battle scene/episode.

The only difference is that the faction you represent absolutely cannot handle hearing and even want to disallow anyone else's opinion that doesn't match yours. "What do y'all have to be so fucking negative?!" "Why do y'all even watch?!" "Ugh, get out of this thread!" (<- actual quotes from the last page or two) Whereas those of us who don't agree with you are simply like, "Well you're all entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is different and here are my reasons why."

Its quite frustrating and yet also fascinating that the contentious, combative, belligerent faction of this thread thinks that it's the other faction that needs to be reprimanded/banned from the thread/blocked from voicing their opinion. everyone is allowed to have his/her own opinion, and it's nobody's fault but your own if you can't handle that.

Look, no one is saying the episode was without flaws, and that the writing hasn't been as tight as HBO attempts to cram two season's of content into six episodes.  It's just that fans of the show don't like to constantly read negative shit about something they love.  It's not your opinions that are the problem.  It's how you present them.  You completely ignore all the good things and only focus on what you didn't like, as though there were no redeeming qualities in the episode at all.  And then you repeat it, and repeat it, and repeat it, and repeat it, and act like we only aren't agreeing with you because it is you.  Are you able to keep a straight face when you call out other posters for being intolerant of differing opinions?  You are Steven A Smith.  There can be a lot of truth in the things you say, but the message gets completely lost in the delivery, and I'm switching over to the tampon commercial on Lifetime rather than listening to that shit.

Let me put it another way.  Pretend Game of Thrones is Rick Barnes.

‘Game of Thrones’ cinematographer says it was your fault 'The Long Night' was too dark

“A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly,” he told Wired, in an interview alongside director Miguel Sapochnik.

“A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway.

“Personally I don’t have to always see what’s going on because it’s more about the emotional impact. Game of Thrones is a cinematic show and therefore you have to watch it like you’re at a cinema: in a darkened room.

“If you watch a night scene in a brightly-lit room then that won’t help you see the image properly.”

While I'm generally a fan of the job he has done, the cinematographer can kindly eat a bag of dicks on this one.  No other episode has required high end devices with precisely calibrated settings in order to be able to follow the action.  It's not an insignificant percentage of viewership that is complaining.  I did watch the episode in the dark out of necessity, but if I want a full theater experience, I'll go to an actual theater or at least to a Surly one percenter's house.

its not like we didnt see the previous 7 seasons to judge the show against itself - that it can be and has been stronger

Based on some of the comments in this thread, I'm not convinced that the previous 7 seasons have been watched by everyone.  I'm not saying that there is no room for criticism, because there absolutely is.  As has been pointed out, the goal posts were moved when it was decided to significantly reduce the number of episodes.  The writers are also working with a general outline at this point instead of detailed source material.  Unfortunately, it shows.  I absolutely agree that the writing on other episodes has been stronger, but I question whether it is realistic to expect it to continue.

I guess we know it will be Arya that kills Cersei, since she's the one with green eyes. Frey, Night King and Cersei.

That's been my guess all along. I don't recall all the details,  but I remember an episode a couple of years ago when there was a scene in Cersei's bedroom and the woman who was her assistant was talking about who can get in, and not get in, to Cersei's room. At the time i remember thinking that Arya was going to use her face to get in and kill Cersei.

I doubt it.  I think taking out the Night King is the top of her story line.  She may get killed attempting to take out Cersei, but I don't think she will be the one to do it.  My money is on Jamie, with Tyrion being the other possibility.

Loved the episode overall and it exceeded my expectations. The entire episode had my heart racing like watching the 4th quarter in a close Horns game. Probably the most tense episode of TV I’ve ever watched.

    What I liked:
-Arya fighting on the roof and later getting the final kill. She’s been my favorite character since she said “A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell and I’m going home.” So glad it wasn’t John killing the Night King.
-Jorah defending Dany to the end. If he was going to die, this was his perfect end.
-Lyanna Mormont killing the giant like a boss. One of the most fearless people in the show.
-Melisandre lighting the Dothraki swords on fire only to see them extinguished in the dark.
-Pretty much all of Melisandre’s scenes for that matter - lighting the trenches on fire, telling Davis she would die before dawn, giving Arya a critical pep talk, and walking off to her own death.
-Theon protecting Bran. I’m anti-Theon but he definitely completed his redemption story in my book.
-Dragon vs. dragon fighting was pretty cool.
-The music, or in some cases the silence, was great.

    What I didn’t like:
-No shocking deaths. Jorah, Lyanna, Theon, Berick, and Eddison. They all seemed predictable and expendable. Didn’t really feel like GoT to have all top characters survive the battle of all battles, especially given that many of them seemed completely overwhelmed in combat.
-Dany was sort of meh. She burned some stuff with Drogon but spent far more time being lost and out of place.
-Bran still seems worthless. He was bait and that’s it. If the Night King had killed him, so what? Seems like the world would go on just fine without his smug 3ER nonsense.
-I wish Tyrion would’ve had a stronger role. Kept thinking his wits would provide a crucial turning point but he did nothing. I guess he’ll finally get his moment against Cersei?
-The dead coming alive in the crypt was kinda stupid given the fact that a wight couldn’t punch through a wooden crate in season 7. The episode would’ve been just fine if that hadn’t occurred.
-What dumbass decided that Ghost should charge into the night? Hoping Ghost survived somehow but that was a poor use of a direwolf and continues the trend of underutilizing then throughout the series.
-No one ever fought one of the WW generals or whatever they’re called. Would’ve liked to see Brienne or Jaime go head to head with one.
-Tormund was MIA most of the episode unless I just missed it.

Maybe that seems like a lot of gripes but overall the high points far outweigh the shortcomings and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope the final 3 episodes can come close to this.

Good summary, and I agree with most of it.

The raised dead in the crypts was the biggest disappointment for me.  We all knew it was coming, but I hate inconsistencies like this, especially when they aren't necessary.  The Starks may want to consider upgrading their coffins from papier-mâché to something a little more durable.

I actually like the Bran character, but he seems wasted for the most part, and his importance to Westeros and/or humankind has not been well developed or explained.  Thus, the Night King's motive was never convincing.  There needed to be a better reason why Bran would be targeted.

I completely understand why they made everything so dark, but it absolutely lessened the enjoyment, particularly regarding the dragon scenes.

I was disappointed that after a few minutes of silence when the last flaming sword was extinguished, there wasn't a charge of Dothraki wights on Winterfell.

As always, so many accept mediocrity and for some fucking reason, embrace and defend it. Dallas has been spinning their wheels now for over 2 decades. And people still get offended if you criticize this front office. Who has no idea how to build a team that can win more than a measly fucking wild card game every so often.

We have seen teams like the Rams and Eagles go from last to first and into the Super Bowl with their new coach and direction in one fucking year. One. Yet here we are in almost year 10 of carrot top and we haven't did jack shit. 10 fucking years.

And you still have fucking pom pom waving dorks who defend and applaud this front office who has no real direction. We have kept a head coach who still has no idea how to make adjustments and a shitty defensive coordinator who doesn't know either. When they face real talent in the playoffs, they get embarrassed.

We have wasted the cheap years of Dak, Zeke and Tank. And the OL. Hell Jaylon will be nearing his second contract. The name of the game is to win while they are still cheap and then load up around them. Like the Rams and Eagles did.

No one is accepting anything.  We're fans.  We know what the problem is.  You know what the problem is.  The entire world knows what the problem is.  But that problem still owns the team, and he's as big a fan as any of us, isn't selling, and has the resources to outlive all of us.  Unfortunately, he doesn't have the skill set to build a competitive team year-to-year without enlisting competent help, which he is too vain to do.

We can either sit around and constantly bitch about it, knowing that it does absolutely no good, or we can look for something, anything, to be positive about so that being a fan of our favorite franchise isn't such a miserable fucking experience.  Isn't being a fan of a team stuck in mediocrity bad enough?  We have to constantly have it drilled into our heads by the "misery loves company" crowd?   I'm not asking for "glass half full," much less a glass full of sunshine.  I would settle for the occasional "I know I saw my glass around here somewhere; maybe it still has a sip in it."

Let me enjoy a week or two of post-draft optimism.  The season will start soon enough, and reality can beat the ever living shit out of me then.

The top 3 names are really good adds imo. Johnson lit up the Mac with a limited QB. They’ve been on wise for a while. And the Kentucky QB is probably going to push Rush and White for a spot.

Hot take.  So a guy who played corner in college is going to challenge for the backup QB spot on the Dallas Cowboys.  Well at least he has good height.

  12. That was a great episode, and glad my confusion at the end of last week's completely made sense.  I think the Star Wars vibe was intentional.  The multiple quantum drive failures at critical moments...the asteroid and ice canyon chase scenes...all  that was needed was a "jumping to hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy."
