  1. Wulaw, are you in Houston? For some reason that pops in my head. If in Austin, I would go to the pro shop at Highland Lanes for any advice. It's owned by Wes Malott but he has moved from Pflugerville to somewhere in the Midwest (maybe Indiana?). The guy that runs it now, Gary, is a great guy and very knowledgeable.
  2. The easiest way to throw a hook is to release the ball like you are going to shake hands bringing your hand up the back side of the ball if that makes sense. It doesn't put a lot of stress on your wrist or elbow the way some crankers do. Have bowled leagues for about 10 years...could be pretty good if I worked at it, but we'd rather drink batmen at Pluckers and sober up to drive home while bowling. Haven't been to a bowling alley except on league night in several years. Highest league average was around 206 but usually around 198-200. Get a team of guys that you enjoy being around and don't give a shit about the rest makes for a fun evening away from the wife.
  3. The law was changed in 1997 for federal taxes. You can get the exemption every 2 years as the trade-off for doing away with the trade-up clause. There might be something with California's state tax that still includes it though. I have no idea on that.
  4. Just a note. It seems like you are including an old tax provision in that you can defer gains by rolling the proceeds into the purchase of "bigger" house, and that is no longer the case.
  5. Just a quick note to those going for formal protest...remember to use median numbers as they seem to like that better than average. I don't think it matters as much right now, but it's a holdover from the times of many foreclosure sales.
  6. I really tried to find a gif of Harrison Ford running through the dam in Force 10 from Navarone but quickly lost interest
  7. What do you mean by open flame? The 640 has a "door" in the deflector plate that can be removed. The door is directly over the pellet burner. If you are wondering about searing, I'm sure you can get it over 700 pretty quickly and you can buy searing grates that should help with potential flare-ups.
  8. Can't help on skulls, but...

Has anyone else's speed slowed? Mine measured at 30 down and 4 up this morning. The speed has really been pretty crappy since I had to power cycle the dish, dropping from the 110 down range to the current 30.

And it's back. Very simple procedure to power cycle and let it do its thing. Might have to wait a month or longer for the next rain to see if this was an aberration or if it is that sensitive or moving, etc.
  11. Had a brief rain a little east of Pflugerville. Weather station says it's 94 right now.

It's bolted to the chimney frame and stucco on the starlink pole adapter, so I wouldn't think it would move. Of course, I have no real way of knowing. I'm about to plug the power back in to complete a power cycle to see if that brings it back up.

Looks like I lost reception during a brief rain just now including pretty good wind gusts. Wasn't that heavy comparatively speaking...about a tenth of an inch in about 10-15 minutes. Still waiting for it to come back about 20 minutes after it went down
  14. Just got a tenth of an inch a little east of Pflugerville. Of course, I had just paid my cousin's kids to paint the pipe fence about 4 hours ago.

Haven't noticed anything, but not sure I would notice brief outages. Dish mounted on top of house with no obstructions at all.

Speeds are pretty inconsistent about 18 hours in. Download has ranged from 63 to 142 which is still much faster than the 30 I was getting from line of sight antenna. Upload speeds have ranged from 1.5 to about 7 with most in the 5 to 6 range which is about the same as what I was getting before.
  17. BD, not an installer, just built a house with the spray foam from the start (even spray foamed some interior walls for sound deadening). My house is all electric so I didn't have to worry about gas appliances and the possible buildup of fumes. I was actually not aware that you could put gas appliances in a foam house when I first started planning (about 9 years ago), so I always planned on all electric. I would be leery of not switching out the units. My understanding now is that the gas units should be enclosed and completely sealed off with outside venting to prevent the gases from getting back into the house, since the whole purpose of the foam is an airtight seal. I can tell you that the house is pretty airtight. We have to crack a nearby window to get a fire started, otherwise it'll barely smolder. Once it's going, it creates a draft with a separate fresh air inlet specifically for the fireplace only.
  18. Wish I could say the same. 3400 square feet and electric bill was $399 last month. Of course, we have a ton of windows, are at the top of hill, no trees to shade the house and a pool...but, still. I'd hate to see the bills without the foam.
  19. I was told not to do any spray foam at all above the garage as the idea is to completely seal off air flow. You have no way to deal with car exhaust and carbon monoxide getting in the foamed areas.
  20. Well, because of this thread, I ordered a Yoder YS640 and got it Wednesday. I've never really done any smoking at all but decided to give pork ribs a try figuring they would be the easiest. I'm not sure why I waited so long. No foil, wrap or spritzing at all, just sea salt, pepper and a generic pork rub. 3.5 hours at 230 later and they are juicy and tasty. Kudos to all for the discussion

My dish is going to be delivered on Sunday (supposedly) but the pole mount and ethernet adapter that I ordered at the same time are probably going to be a couple of weeks behind that. I'll already be charged for service before I have it up most likely. I have a completely unobstructed sky view and am mounting this on my roof, so I shouldn't have any issues (wish I could say the same about the power drops).
  22. So, since some of these guys have resigned from the PGA Tour, will they have to go through Q-School (if the LIV folds) or Monday qualifiers to play in a non-LIV American event?
  23. I watched a youtube video of everything I needed to know for Season 6, so that helped quite a bit. I just didn't remember the Gypsy culture/curses being such a big part of the show. I guess that's what happens when the seasons are so far apart.
  24. To me, the biggest wild card in housing market is what the rising interest rates do to the investment purchases. It was stated above that over 40% of the homes sold in Travis County last year were institutional purchases. If their financing costs/required returns start to rise (throw in the uncertainty of taxes), there might be a drop in that part of the equation which could lead to a fairly significant drop in demand, at least at the cash top end of offers. Of course, that could also open the market back up to first time home buyers which would not be a bad thing at all.
  25. Being in a small market might make a difference since there is an increased chance that the selling agent might know the inspector and their reputation and MIGHT not get a new inspection, but I would fully expect the process to be repeated with any subsequent offers. The inspector will find something different from the previous inspection.
