Wow,  false equivalency and ad hominem in one sentence. Care to go for any more logical fallacies?

Do I have to list other legal scholars who agree with him before my question ("Is he right?")  is actually addressed?

You’re way off base here.  It’s not “ad hominem” to note that an alleged expert in a given field has previously been proven wrong when opining on matters in that field. That is perfectly legitimate impeachment of a purported expert’s credentials and bias.

When you argue that a person’s pedigree makes it more likely than not that a statement that person says is true, then evidence that said person has previously erred on similar topics in the past is relevant to rebut the claim YOU first advocated.

And it’s not false equivalency, either.  You’re offering Yoo for his legal expertise, and we’re pointing out that he’s intentionally lied about the law before.

To summarize: your point is stupid.

Okay,  so Yoo is Hitler incarnate.  But is he wrong?

Your first sentence misses the point.  You cite Yoo as an expert on law, as a way to buttress his view with his credentials.  My point is: Yoo has shown a clear bias in favor of authoritarianism in previous legal analyses, and you have to weigh that against his alleged expertise when gauging his credibility.

Whether he’s right or wrong here, I don’t know.  I haven’t read the article nor have I closely studied the law on pardon power.

This would be a relevant observation were it true that just because a man was wrong in one instance it means he is wrong in another.

Yoo’s history of advocating for despotism should affect the weight you assign to his opinion.

What you missed, although I'm not sure how, is that Republicans are no longer Republicans.   You are correct - the new Trump/Palin brand of fucked up GOP-ism is indeed not what many former self-described Republicans can stomach.     My form of Rockefeller Republicanism died quite a while ago, in the Reagan/Bush I era.    But Brisket's Republicanism was alive and well during the Bush II years, although struggling under Rove's machinations.   And then it was put on life support when Palin was nominated, finally dying with Trump.

Short version:  the word "Republican" now means the type of hateful and stupid shit you now embrace.   Loads of former smart non-deplorable Republicans do not embrace it, and are going to fuck you up in November, now that the Hilary factor is absent.

The old GOP was run by greedy rich dudes who convinced bible thumping rubes that Jesus died on the cross to save us from the capital gains tax.

The new GOP is run by those rubes, and they’re pissed at the Democrats for all the bullshit the GOP establishment pulled for decades.

Put simply: our current predicament is the fault of the moron set, who voted for assholes for years and then thought the way to fix all the problems those assholes caused was to vote for an even bigger asshole.

Yes the fucking smiths too. Although I will admit How Soon is Now is a pretty bad ass song, but the lyrics make me want to stab myself.

The thing is: Morrisey sucks but Johnny Marr fucking rocks.  So the Smiths is a mixed bag.  Great music, embarrassing lyrics and god-awful vocals.

    What a child.

ABC holds Roseanne accountable when she acts like a dick.  But then, when Trump acts like a dick, ABC holds him accountable.  DOUBLE STANDARD!

I said this long ago, but seriously, he's going to end up being a literal textbook example/case study when this is all said and done.

I agree.  But what exactly he’s an example of depends on who is writing the textbooks in 50 years.

I basically think funny = smart when it comes to comedians, and she was funny 25 years ago.  Then I saw her on Norm MacDonald a few months ago and she clearly didn’t get some of the jokes, most notably Norm’s “I mean, he’s a real jerk” bit.  I think she’s just losing her mental faculties.

Maybe Roseanne thought the subject of Norm’s joke wasn’t a jerk, but was just a nice, normal person who happened to be on Ambien at the time he committed all those atrocities.

Yup.  Check out the symptoms of NPD in the DSM-5:

    1. Grandiosity with expectations of superior treatment from other people
    2. Fixated on fantasies of power, success, intelligence, attractiveness, etc.
    3. Self-perception of being unique, superior, and associated with high-status people and institutions
    4. Needing continual admiration from others
    5. Sense of entitlement to special treatment and to obedience from others
    6. Exploitative of others to achieve personal gain
    7. Unwilling to empathize with the feelings, wishes, and needs of other people
    8. Intensely envious of others, and the belief that others are equally envious of them
    9. Pompous and arrogant demeanor

Ya, whatever those fellas saw in that FBI briefing scared them straight. Gowdy is defending the FBI everywhere he can and Nunes has chilled on the conspiracy theories and attacks. Too bad the dumbfuck president didn't get the message.

The dumbfuck President WAS the message.

Who knew overt racism was a side effect of Ambien?

Sounds like the makings of a solid SNL commercial parody.

  12. It’s loud as shit, but there’s no clean headroom at all.  So I can’t use it with my band - I occasionally need a clean tone.

One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t need a huge amp for gigs.  I usually have my 30 Watt Peavey dialed down to 2-3.

Trump is kryptonite. He's the human version of Russian murder poison. The paradigm has been cemented, he devalues everything he touches. He's the non consensual midas touch of another's private parts.

Every trump supporter should heed the warning. An alliance with him will debase you, completely.

You just described precisely what Donald Trump is: a conman.  He tempts with promises of riches or fame that are too good to be true.  Suckers fall for it.  They lose everything, while he makes a killing and moves onto his next mark.

  14. Yeah.  My son is really excited to play on a select team with paid coaching.  Watching him stand flat-footed at midfield for several seasons, waiting for the other team to come charging forward at full speed just made my blood boil. That kind of uberconservative play is not just bad offense, it’s also bad defense.
