  1. My high school buddy was finishing his eagle scout stuff before we graduated. I'm not gonna say he hated it, but he was so over it by the time he was done. His older brother was an eagle scout as well, I think there was some pressure from his mom to get it done. He never spoke about his scout stuff unless it was to bitch about something he had to do for his eagle program. After the ceremony, he never talked about scout shit ever again.
  2. I'd have sent him an invoice and asked him which ones he was paying for.
  3. My dad went to have an echo test and some bloodwork. The results are that his heart isn't any worse but it's not getting better either. The doc suggests that dad gets an internal defibrillator, dad has declined. He told my sister that he doesn't want to spend what time he has left going in and out of the hospital. I don't know when he has to make his decision about the device but as of now, he ain't interested. I don't like it but there's not much I can do. He keeps saying that he wants to be with my mom, who passed in 2007. I'm at the point where I'm not going to argue with him.
  4. If guys playing guitar outside of subways or on street corners really wanted to make some money, they should play classic rock guitar solos. I don't give those guys playing Ed Sheeran or whatever a second glance, but if I came out of the subway/metro/underground and a guy is playing Stranglehold or Layla, I'm gonna toss him a buck or two. If he plays Frankenstein, he gets a $10.

    London

Heading back to London on Tuesday. We usually stay in South Kensington but we're shifting slightly west to Earl's Court this time. It's gonna be so nice to ditch the 95 degree heat for 75 and under for a couple of weeks.
  6. My wife was doing some wordle type puzzle last night and said, "Don't judge me, but do you know what a "Glint" is?". I said yeah and explained it, she said she had never heard of it. I said it's similar to gleam. She looked at me with the same puzzled expression and said "I've never heard that word either.".
  7. There's a regional VP at my wife's company named Leonard. He doesn't come around very often but when he does, my wife's boss gets antsy. I don't give a shit about any of that stuff, so any time she says something like "Leonard is coming next week and my boss is stressing out", I just start singing: "When Leonard finally caaaaaaame to California,". She doesn't know any Merle Haggard and that makes it even funnier when she looks at me like I'm speaking greek. I've been doing this for 5 years and it's still funny to me.
  8. Damn, I thought Loni Anderson died a few years ago.
  9. I called around when my kids were that age. USAA was astronomically high, more than double my current policy. The agent said "Yeah, USAA doesn't like teen drivers.". I wound up going with Safeco. I'm with GEICO now, they had the best rates for me, hands down.
  10. Yeah, this is hard as well. I live 20 miles from my dad. My sister is just down the street, half a mile away. She's older, closer and my dad prefers to deal with her. He's always favored her a bit, that's just a fact. I make sure to come by and see Dad when I can, and I'll buy my sister lunch when we go out, but the brunt of this falls on her. She's also a control freak and I think she secretly likes to be in charge.
  11. This shit is tough and I'm not even that old yet. My dad is 78 and acts like he's 108. My sister and I are early-mid 50s and don't exactly have time to take off work and sit next to him as he watches old westerns and ESPN. He left home at 19 and never moved back. Visited occasionally, but mostly stayed away. When my grandma needed shit, he either left it to his brothers (who lived nearby) or scratched a check (then bitched about it). When grandma was dying, he never visited but we went to the funeral (which he mostly paid for and bitched about having to pay). But now? He expects us children to tend to his needs and I find myself resenting it a bit. Like, you want treatment that you yourself weren't willing to give? He has the funds to pay for at home care or whatever he needs but he's so damn cheap. I have a wife, grown kids, grandkids, a job. I don't need more shit on my plate.
  12. When you're cleaning your glasses and the cloth shifts ever so slightly, causing you to wipe your bare thumb across the lens, making a whole new smear to try and clean.

    Getting old sucks

If I ever have a "blowout" at work that requires me to have to go home and take a shower, I will not be returning that day. Probably not the next day either. Matter of fact, I'm probably taking the rest of the week off.
  14. I saw Gillis last weekend, it was the funniest stand up show I have ever seen. I laughed my ass off. Also, Dave Atell was one of the openers and he was outstanding as well.
