Hopefully rec use will get approved in the near future.

I'm sure it will take a few years to prove that the devil is not behind MJ use.

There's a petition going around now to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot this fall for full recreational. As a Rep voter and teetotaler, I support it. This SQ might get gutted by the legislature. I hope not but I have zero faith in these guys.

IMO there's almost no chance the D candidate wins the primary. I don't really mind the guy (and I plan to vote for him, as I don't like either R) but D's probably won't get the Gov's office back for a long time.

  2. I'm getting Lasik next week. They asked me if I wanted to get a valium and I really don't know. I've never taken one and as dumb as it sounds, I'm leery about taking it. I don't drink or smoke weed, I have a complex about not being in control of my faculties. Not that valium will do anything crazy to me, but like I said, I have complex.

I'm nervous about the procedure but I'm nervous about taking something, too. What's the surly verdict, take the pill or go in dry??

Jurors aren't asked for their reasoning as a general rule.  In criminal cases, the verdict is just guilty/not guilty.  In civil cases, they are frequently given a set of written yes/no questions and a damages question or two.  Beyond that, the system does not permit anyone to ask jurors about their reasoning or provide any mechanism for considering it.  Lawyers often interview jurors after a trial, but that is for the lawyers' own edification,   Now, I am sure it will become common practice to inquire whether the defendant's race was a factor.

In this case, the jurors sent the judge a series of questions about prison life, that are facially fairly innocuous and the judge declined to answer them and the jury took another eight hours to decide on the death penalty.  Long after the fact, 23 years to be precise, the defense obtained affidavits from jurors indicating that three of them expressed "gay animus" during deliberations.  When you take the two together, a case can be made that the questions asked of the judge were geared toward determining whether a gay man might enjoy prison.

It is a bit suspect, but far from certain, that they gave him death because otherwise he would be in buttsecks heaven.

"Gay animus" sounds like a freaky sex move. Probably scared some jurors.

This is always stated but is this actually true or just wishful thinking? Prison is full of convicted and unconvicted child abusers, absentee parents, and miscreants. Why, all of a sudden, would any of them develop a conscience and give a shit about a stranger?

A lot of inmates were abused as children and feel like it contributed to how they turned out. I worked in corrections and I can tell you, while not as widespread as some people think, child abusers/killers do catch a beatdown from time to time. Many are placed in segregation for their own protection.

  5. Sometimes I wonder if I feel good after a therapy session, just because I get to talk and nobody stops me. Usually I don't have much to say, or at least nothing that interests anyone but me. I guess it doesn't matter, I get some stuff off of my chest and I feel better. That's what its about, right?

I don't know why but I've felt pretty great the last week or so. I actually don't mind being at work! I wish I knew the secret to staying in this zone.

Why are y'all answering calls from your cable company?

Also, not trivial, motherfucking mosquitos inside my motherfucking house.

If the caller ID said "Cable Assholes" I wouldn't answer it. But usually it doesn't have a name and I never know who's calling. Could be important, so I answer.

Also, I hate voicemail, so answering even shitty phone calls avoids dealing with voicemail.

  7. The cable/internet company called today to tell me about their "deals". I only have internet, no cable or dish. She said they have great deals! I said that I already pay more than I want and would really like to pay less. She offered a bundle with TV (that I don't want) for an extra $35 a month. WTF, bitch?  I just said I don't want to pay more!

  8. The Hardy situation is so polarizing. It seems like everyone decided he shouldn't be allowed to play football anymore. Now there's people bitching about his MMA career. WTF is the guy supposed to do?  Does he have to be a ditch digger or work in a grocery store warehouse?  The guy seems like a huge asshole but at what point does he get to just live his life. Yes, he's a woman beater. No excuse for that. But I've seen guys take less heat for murder!  NFL players that have killed people and still returned to the field. I didn't watch this fight and I'm not trying to hype this guy, just tired of all the pearl-clutching.

And if I see another LeBron v. Jordan argument I might gouge my eyes out. They played in different eras and had different games. Both are great and were/are the best of their era. The debate has become so predictable too. Millennials who grew up in the 90s insist on Jordan, younger folks like LeBron. Older folks just stroke the flames and will throw some old timer into the conversation. Enough already.

I was a Celtics and Pistons fan, I hated Jordan. If he had been traded to one of my teams, I would've liked him. I never understood the blind allegiance to Jordan. He was great but if you don't proclaim him as the all-powerful GOD OF BASKETBALL, then you are deemed an idiot. I feel the same about Kobe, Lebron, etc.

  10. There are plenty of times I want to buy things at an actual store but they don't carry the things that they used to carry. I needed an aerator for my faucet, so I went to Lowes. They said theose only came in the box when you buy a faucet. WTF? Ace Hardware had nothing, my local plumbing/electric wholesale place had nothing either. I ordered it from amazon and got it 2 days later. Same thing with my phone case. I don't have an iphone or galaxy, so it's nearly impossible to get a case for my phone at a local store. Amazon had it, though.

B&M stores are screwed. They either carry a bunch of shit that people only buy once in a blue moon, or not carry those things and force people to shop online.

I'd agree with that on the tech talent and recruiting part.  WMT is 10 years behind AMZN there but they've made up some ground recently.  They're still a ways behind and it's significantly easier to do business with AMZN as a supplier.

WMT had a big win with their store pick up, though.  Their ubiquitous real estate presence is their bigges advantage.  They should have been doing that ten years ago, though.

I played golf last week and got paired up with a guy who's a GM at Walmart. He said they're getting ready to start grocery delivery and they feel it will be a huge win for them (I'm in Oklahoma, so some of you may already have this option). He also said the curbside grocery pickup was doing well. I told him how much I hate the website and he said they're getting ready to overhaul that as well. It sounds like they're really trying to step up their game.
