  1. Dang. Brew Crew wasted a golden opportunity to walk off the Rags in the 9th. Going to extras. M's already won today.
  2. And finally, after the 80th game of the year,, the Astros reach .500 for the first time all season.
  3. A week away from the start of the Dog Days of Summer (officially 7/3-8/11). Aside from some moderate rain chances this weekend, extended forecast is just nothing but a whole lot of long ass days in the high 90's.
  4. Last few days in the markets.
  5. DJ Fire Hazard
  6. Down go the mighty ChiSox!
  7. Today is the Summer Solstice. Longest day of the year. Starting tomorrow, sunrises get later and sunsets get earlier. Just a few seconds off each end at first. Doesn't really pick up steam until you get closer to the Equinox in late September. At that point we start losing nearly a minute off each end every day.
  8. Lol. Sounds exactly like the fund managers that have been sitting on the sidelines b/c "recession and deep pullback imminent" and then when they finally have to issue a mea culpa, it's "well, if it weren't for reckless spending/money printing/fake numbers...I would have been right. Recession definitely soon though!"
  9. Spent part of yesterday afternoon partially assembling a feeder for the new stand we're brining out to the lease this coming weekend. From past experience, it's a lot more comfortable to do as much as possible at home than trying to put this thing together out in the field. https://www.academy.com/p/game-winner®-300-lb-silo-vp-feeder FYI, we set up this same model at a stand last year and have been happy with it so far. A lot sturdier than other cheap store-brand feeders. Is actual metal, not rubber or plastic, legs aren't feeble, comes with a varmint guard...etc. All in, after taxes and adding a (not included) solar panel, comes out to about $250. Only big drawback is that assembly takes a little while and gets annoying at times.
  10. Whole lotta rain in the forecast this week. Houston area gonna get a pretty good deluge starting tomorrow morning and really picking up through Wednesday. Areas south of town likely to have some localized flooding. CenTex should get some action as well, most likely Wednesday and/or Thursday.
  11. FB has been getting spammed with ridiculous engagement-farming AI accounts like this lately: 1/2 mile long 196-wheeler travelling the wrong way down the highway in a country where the road signs are in a gibberish alien script. The comments section are always a mix of obvious bots and credulous boomers posting "god bless. Amen!" Here's another This society ain't gonna make it.
  12. I've spent the last 16 years reading and posting on surlyhorns and its predecessor.
  13. S&P 5433 Nasdaq 17667 New ATH for both, yet again, while DJIA has been stuck in neutral the last 2 weeks. VIX is back down below 12.
  14. PPI came in extra soft, which is sure to piss off the people that hate inflation but also hate seeing it go down.
  15. Very soft May CPI reading.
  16. $3.05 this morning. 93% gain over the past 10 weeks.
  17. Yeah. I probably did a solid 2 hours of weed eating yesterday. Have never been so drenched in sweat. Very much needed though. Grass and weeds around the camp house were about waist high. All that rain last month has the place greener and more overgrown than I've ever seen it.
  18. Making a quick trip up to my lease on Sunday. Gonna go check on the camp house after all the recent storms, do a little weed eating and mowing, and scout locations for the new stand we're bringing out later this month. Also gonna start putting together a project list for a group work weekend come come September.
  19. Betting on BLS numbers based on ADP is as unreliable as assuming each Wednesday's EIA oil inventories will match the API estimates that come out on Tuesdays. They're looking at 2 totally different data sets with different methodologies.
  20. From what I read, it's basically the old plan with slight modifications to lane and sidewalk widths. The portion from 15th to I-10 will proceed. They're also removing this divider strip at 11th and Shepherd east to Dorothy. All the changes East of Dorothy will remain.
  21. In my 'hood back in the mid-90's, Diamondback Viper was the baseline-level acceptable BMX bike. Anything less would get you ridiculed. Show up on a mountain bike or something and you might as well give yourself a wedgie. Kids with parents with a little more money had Mongooses. Rich kids would have something like a Robinson or Dyno.
