  1. Man, some companies are so tone deaf. Talked to a good friend of mine that lives in Timbergrove. He's out helping neighbors cut up trees, removing busted up fences and shit. Gets an email from his office at like 8:00 a.m. this morning. "Feel free to work from home today due to yesterday's weather." Said it was everything he could do to not respond "Feel free to kiss my fucking ass."
  2. Space City has a good explainer of yesterday's disaster. https://spacecityweather.com/houston-what-the-heck-happened-on-thursday/
  3. Welp, that was certainly an experience. I was hoping to get in the stadium before some heavy rain started, not a fucking tornadocane or whatever the hell that was last night. Met up with friends at a brewery by the stadium at around 6:15. We were planning to grab maybe 2-3 rounds of beers before walking over, thinking rain wouldn't start until after we got inside. Whoops. Still made it to the game though!
  4. Same boat. I met some buddies at Frost Town brewery before the game. Got there about 6:15 and it wasn't even raining yet. Forecast was making it look like storms wouldn't arrive until after first pitch. Drank 1 beer, went and got another and I look up and it's pitch black outside, raining sideways, and everyone's phone is flashing tornado warnings. Power went out for about 30 seconds but mercifully came back on. 15 minutes later the sun was back out. 2 of the guys GTFO to go check on their houses. Their neighbors were sending pics of trees on roofs and whatnot. Me and my other buddy knew our houses were fine from talking to our neighbors, but had no power. We said fuck it, rather be at MMP with power than at home in the dark so we walked over to the stadium and caught a ballgame. Getting home was a bitch though. We walked back to the brewery to wait for post-game crowd to thin out and it took forever to finally get an Uber signal. Luckily my buddy finally got one on the hook and added me as a stop. We were driving home in pitch black, taking detours due to downed trees and shit. Never been more grateful to make it to my house. My poor wife got stuck at a Total Wine on the way home from work for like 30 minutes. She popped in to the one by her office to grab a bottle of wine and get home before the rain, thinking she had time. Power went out, tornado warnings. Staff made everyone go hide in the bathrooms. Luckily, my boss came up to our office this morning and confirmed we have power and internet and everything, so I just rolled in. Drove down Heights Blvd to get here. It's completely fucked. Probably 50% of the trees on the trail are ripped apart. Gonna be several days until it's fully functional again and several years until it looks normal.
  5. Just quoting from the press release and all the stories reporting on it. Press Release: Complementary combination creates the 2nd largest operator in the Eagle Ford Rueters: Oil and gas producer Crescent Energy (CRGY.N), opens new tab has agreed to buy rival SilverBow Resources (SBOW.N), opens new tab for $2.1 billion, a deal which would create the second-largest operator in the Eagle Ford basin in south Texas. WSJ: The energy companies said the combination will create the second largest operator in the Eagle Ford Shale.
  6. That's a whole lot of green and red over a wide swath of Texas. Heading ENE. Was supposed to rain all day in Houston. Currently no major rainfall predicted until 9:00 p.m. at the earliest.
  7. Nat Gas has finally crawled out of the crapper a bit. Up to $2.50 today, which is its highest price since the last week of January. It has been sub-$2 since February 7th. Bottomed out at $1.57 on 3/26.
  8. Another 10 figure deal in Houston. KKR-backed Crescent Energy is buying SilverBow for $2.1B. This comes just weeks SilverBow turned down Kimmeridge's latest unsolicited offer to buy the company. Crescent will now be the #2 operator in the Eagle Ford.
  9. Gonna brave the rain tonight in hopes of finally seeing my first in-person W of the season. Feel free to blame me if we come up short of the sweep. After seeing Javier's last start, I'm more than a little worried.
  10. At lest for a little bit this morning, DJIA 40K has been breached! 40,022 as of this post.
  11. It's back and worse than ever! There's some gold further down in the article:
  12. Man that was ideal from a pitching usage perspective. 7 scoreless from Framber with less than 100 pitches. Only used Martinez in relief. Everyone else gets some much needed rest.
  13. Update after today's marginally-cooler-than-expected CPI print: DJIA +349 tp 39,908. ATH S&P +61 to 5,308. ATH Nasdaq +231 to 16,742. ATH.
  14. A walk-off in extras despite our pitcher getting ejected after 3 IP and going 0-9 with RISP in regulation? Hader comes in and throws 2 spotless innings, stranding the ghost runner in the Top of the 10th? Things seem to legitimately have changed for us. That's a game we lose 100% of the time back in April.
  15. Knock on wood, but I've had a good run since this post. No injuries or illnesses since then and been averaging 5 days/week in the gym. I've been working out pretty steadily for close to a year and half, and I've pretty much giving up on "losing weight" and am fully focused on body recomposition. Started out around 210 (6'0) and probably close to 30% body fat. Just plain out of shape. I've plateau'd right around 195 for close to 6 months now, but slowly, steadily increasing the share that is muscle vs. fat. I'm never going to be described as "slim," but that's really not the look I'm going for anyways. At my age and build, I'd be quite happy with ~190 and ~18%. Not there yet, but a lot closer than I used to be.
  16. Sell in April, buy it all back in May? Nasdaq closed at a new ATH today at 16,511. S&P at 5,246 is back to within 8 points of previous ATH set on 3/28/24. DJIA back up to 39,555. Still on the hunt for 40K. Closest we've come is 39,807 back on 3/28/24.
  17. 9-6 in our last 15. Just keep stringing together more W's than L's and let the chips fall where they may.
  18. Alright, 9-2. Let's wrap it up.
  19. If you're looking for a sci-fi series to watch, all 4 seasons of Battlestar Galactica (the 2000's version, not the campy 70's original) were just recently added to Prime. Incredible show.
  20. Related note, I have watched this video at least a dozen times, and I still can't get through it without cracking up.
  21. Judging by how it looks outside my office window, bout to get nasty in Houston within the next 30 minutes or so.
  22. Nerd Alert. Anime thread being bumped. Finally finished AOT earlier this month. Was watching 3-4 episodes a week during workouts. Took me several months to finish at that pace, but really enjoyed it. Demon Slayer is finally back. First episode of new season dropped last night. Planning to watch this afternoon. New episodes coming out Sunday nights the next few weeks. In the meantime, started a promising new series last week. Kaiju No. 8. Currently just 5 episodes available, releasing weekly. Full first season won't be out until end of June.
  23. Attaboy JV. Exactly what we needed today. Now lets please get 6 more outs without any major drama. Maybe tack on another run or two for good measure.
