  1. Cold, rainy weekend ahead. Time for this thread to shine. Think I'm gonna make a batch of SF-style Clam Chowder for Sunday dinner. Maybe French Onion soup for lunch Saturday.
  2. Finally won a minor argument with my wife resoundingly enough to where she had no choice but to admit defeat. The other day my wife calls me on her way home from work saying she has to pick up a prescription from HEB and asks if I can think of anything we need. The one thing I mention is cold brew coffee, as I had finished the last of it that morning. She says ok. Next morning, I get home from the gym and get ready to make a nice big omelet to for us to split while she's at her Pilates class. I go open the fridge and find a solitary egg left in the carton. She had made herself some eggs the day before. Me (via text): "hey, next time you leave 1 just egg in the fridge, maybe grab some more if you're going to the store. So much for an omelet. Granola it is." Her: "You knew I made eggs yesterday morning, why didn't you tell me we needed more? Also, you drank all the cold brew and I didn't have any before my class this morning." Me: "I didn't know we needed eggs. You're the one who used all but the last one. In what scenario would I be more aware of the egg count than you? Also, cold brew was the one and only item I mentioned you should pick up." Her:...."Oh shit, that's right. I'll pop into Whole Foods on the way home from class and get some eggs and cold brew."
  3. So, Oakland or Miami?
  4. Anyone got the paywalled version of this story?
  5. Tyler County, just south of Lake Rayburn. Closest "town" is a little shithole called Colmesneil.
  6. Welp, putting in work at the lease in East TX over the past 2 years finally paid off on Friday morning. First buck I've shot since I was in high school. Just started deer hunting again last year. Kinda funny story. I shot him right under the feeder and he took off running. Went down there and all I saw was a tiny little splatter of blood under the feeder. I trudged off in the direction of where I assumed he had run and couldn't pick up any trail whatsoever other than a few tufts of hair. No blood trail at all. After about 20 minutes of looking around, I got convinced that I had whiffed a rather easy shot and just grazed him. Bout that time my Dad pulled up to help me search. Within about a minute of getting out of his truck, he pointed out a shape underneath a bush 90 degrees to the right of where I was walking. Deer had collapsed not more than 40 yards from the feeder. I guess I had tunnel vision of where I thought he had run and just never even glanced in that direction. Rather than a graze, it was pretty much a textbook shot right behind the shoulder. Surprised he was able to go any distance at all seeing the damage it did to his heart when we were cleaning him. Had my Dad drop off the head with a guy in his neighborhood to prep the skull for a Euro mount. Just gonna put it on a basic skull hanger in the cabin at the lease.
  7. Boy, if Midland/Odessa is known for one thing, it's definitely an abundance of dateable women.
  8. Absolutely gorgeous today. Enjoy these next ~72 hours of Fall while they last. Bona fide light jacket weather the next 2 mornings. Back to unseasonably warm on Sunday and Monday.
  9. Natty $3.20
  10. All part of the big plan to eventually move the team to Japan. You heard it here first!
  11. Ichiro becomes HOF eligible this year. He'll probably get 99.9% on first ballot (some jagoff will submit a blank slate).
  12. Can't wait to catch some games at The Daik.
  13. I'm planning to duck out of the office after lunch on Thursday and head up to my lease. Cool front this week looks to be at its strongest from Wed-Friday. Should be able to get in Thursday evening, 2 Friday hunts, and Saturday morning before it warms back up.
  14. Yeah, pretty bummed to see the latest GFS runs have this upcoming front only lasting a few days before petering out on Saturday. At least we still should get a nice stretch of cool, dry weather from Tuesday morning through Friday night.
  15. Feels like early June today. At least we're getting a healthy dose of rain, but it's fucking 80 degrees with 90% humidity, producing a Feels Like of 87. On November 17th.
  16. Yep. Several of the accounts I followed for worthwhile political takes and business/market news all either went protected or migrated over to BlueSky in the last 10 days. My feed sucks donkey dick now. I'll still check in on Twitter every now and then for sports news, but my days as an avid reader are done and gone.
  17. This probably won't come as a surprise, but the 45-day stretch from 10/1 to yesterday was by far the warmest start to Fall in the last 135 years or so for which reliable records exist. Blastfurnace 2024 Edition reigns supreme.
  18. T-minus ~120 hours until Fall finally arrives, roughly 50 days late.
  19. Looks like a total of 400 out of roughly 2000 PXD folks are getting let go by XOM.
  20. One thing really nice to see in the extended forecast is only a handful of days with highs in the 80's/lows in the 70's. Only real ugly spot in the 15-day is that it looks like it will be warm and muggy again Saturday-Monday after 2 damn near perfect days tomorrow and Friday. The stretch from 11/19-11/28 resembles what November should actually feel like.
  21. Projected dewpoints at 6 pm on Thursday.
  22. After tying many, many brands over the years, this is my current go-to store bought salsa. Clint's other options are all pretty bland, but this Roasted Serrano has the closest equivalent flavor I've found thus far to the salsa roja that gets served warm at little hole-in-the-wall Tex Mex joints.
  23. Haven't seen that far out, but GFS is showing our first true Canadian cold front (vs. the weak Pacific fronts we've been seeing) making its way to Texas a little over a week from now. Highs in the low 60's, lows in the high 40's on the forecast for 11/20-22.
  24. Nicest morning in a long while today. Took the dogs for a long walk as soon as the same came up. A little warmer and more humid tomorrow but then another short front rolling through tomorrow evening. Thursday and Friday look awesome. Highs in the mid 70's, lows in the low 50's.
  25. At least it's looking like we'll have some decent mornings this coming week. Should be in the low 60's in Houston, high 50's in Austin. Another weak, short-lived Pacific front supposed to pass through Texas over the course of Wednesday, which should make for some pleasant weather on Thursday and Friday. Will continue to be low to mid 80's in the afternoons, but not oppressively humid. Baby steps. Huh? KXAN right now.
