  1. Per Tags, Sanchez will primarily platoon with Smith in RF. Stros are concerned about Cam's workload.
  2. He's owed around $110M from now through the end of the '28 season. Twins are eating $33M, we're on the hook for about $77M.
  3. Quite an unexpected trade deadline for the Stros, IMO. We re-upped at 3B, OF, and UT, but didn't grab a single arm. And we gave up next to nothing talent-wise but took on a lot of payroll.
  4. Welp, no pitching help coming via trade.
  5. Per Rome, Astros are still looking for a middle reliever before the deadline expires in 15 minutes. Also, he described the still-unnamed prospect heading back to Twins as "minimal"
  6. LOL. Knew I was missing something.
  7. Yeah, I'm presuming most common lineup will feature Correa 3B, Pena SS, Urias 2B, Walker 1B, Diaz/Caratini C/DH, OF of Sanchez, Smith, and Dubon/Trammell.
  8. Cool. Was definitely gonna say that looks like East TX. My place is down near Rayburn and the terrain looks fairly similar.
  9. Astros also getting Jesus Sanchez from Marlins. There's your lefty OF.
  10. Dumbass shit I saw on my LinkedIn feed: 0% chance this interaction occurred in any way remotely as described.
  11. Correct if I'm wrong, but hasn't Dana said for weeks that a LHB (preferably in the OF) and starting pitching were the priorities? We really gonna instead trade for another RHB in the IF and a middle reliever? I get that Paredes injury changes the calculation, but that would be a pretty big about-face.
  12. Good. Brining Correa back after likely getting Pena back tomorrow and picking up Urias makes zero sense unless the Twins are willing to get no-lubed. We need a starting pitcher and/or a lefty bat in the OF. SS/3B is about our least area of need right now, and we definitely don't need another right-handed bat that costs $30M/year and is barely above-replacement this season.
  13. WTI hits $70 for the first time in 6 weeks (since the strikes on Iran's nuke facilities). Had been rangebound between $65-68 since 6/20.
  14. Houston hit 100 yesterday and may do so again today. Fortunately, it's been low humidity, so the heat index has only been a few ticks above the actual. Still, pretty god damn hot and not a cloud in the sky. One of those days where I felt bad driving by guys out working construction projects.
  15. The stretch ahead from 7/28 to 8/13 is historically the hottest period of the year in Texas, based on daily average high temperature. Gonna be hot and muggy out there for quite while, but still not seeing any triple digits in the forecast. Interestingly, even though it seems like it's been a rather mild Summer this year, the guys on SCW were talking the other day about how 2025 will end up as the 7th hottest summer of the last ~150 years in Houston based on daily average temperature. This is because although daytime highs have not been extreme, we're not really cooling off much at nights. Can definitely confirm this was the case last night, when I went outside to grab a drink out of the patio fridge around 10 pm and I'm sure the heat index had to still be above 90.
  16. FYI, you can find off-brand rechargeable batteries for Spypoint cams on Amazon that will last several months between charges. I've replaced the disposable batteries in almost all of the cameras at our lease. About $15-25 each depending on the model. Most use LIT-22 batteries and you can get a pack of 2 for $45. They charge with any standard USB-C cable.
  17. Yep. You can't trade your way out of a situation where the majority of your rotation starts are going to minor-league JAGs and 1/3 of your lineup is negative WAR Replacements in the 3rd Degree (i. e. guys playing in place of the first and second waves of injured replacements who were brought in to replace injured starters). You especially can't do it with a barren farm system and an already-maxed-out payroll. The fuck we gonna trade? Hummel and Chas for a bag of dicks?
  18. I think I saw that Melton is likely to be activated tomorrow. Maybe our long Hummel nightmare finally ends? Our luck this season, he'll slip and fall, tear an MCL walking down the steps of the bus dropping him off at Daikin.
  19. Trot this exact lineup & SP combo out 162 games a year and I think we'd finish 45-117 or thereabouts.
  20. Good looking young studs. Whereabouts is your place? Edit to add: May wanna think about propping up that feeder a little better. Looking more than a little shaky.
  21. Another thing that sucks with our roster at the moment is how many guys are having to be used significantly above what they're ready/suitable for: Cam is obviously MLB-ready but should be batting 7th or 8th on a healthy team. Brice clearly has athletic talent but should be be in Sugar Land until mid-'26. A guy like Walter should be on call in the minors as late season pitching depth, not getting worn out as a main piece of the MLB rotation. Hummel/Gusto/Alexander are names none of us should recognize. Neris and Singleton are names we should only recognize as former Astros.
  22. Was thinking of starting the new thread on Friday but I see you beat me to the punch. 36 days until Dove Season, 97 until Deer Season and I'm already getting antsy. Got my first couple of bird hunts booked for September earlier this week. Getting in an afternoon dove hunt on the Thursday of Opening Week out near Sealy. Little place we've hunted the last few seasons that's been pretty reliable but you gotta get there the first few days of the season before it gets completely shot up. Final weekend of September heading down to my buddy's fishing and hunting club near Rockport to try and knock down some teal that Friday morning. Maybe do a little night fishing under the dock lights the night before. Gotta run up to my deer lease for a short trip next weekend. My buddy's UTV is finally finished getting worked on at the repair shop so we need to go grab his trailer and haul it back down to the lease. While there also gonna charge camera batteries, bug bomb a few deer stands, and do a little bit of brush clearing. Got a new mini chainsaw and new string trimmer that I've been looking forward to putting to use. Got a ton of rain this Summer and I can see from the cameras that it's crazy overgrown. Will head up again sometime probably late August for a full-on work weekend to fill feeders and start feeding. I'm so ready for Summer to give way to Fall. Wish we could just forward through August. Already planning several pre-season trips once the weather cools off a bit to top off feeders, drink beers out by the fire, and put a barely-noticeable dent in the local hog population. One of the nice parts of having a place that's only 2 hours away.
  23. The AZ series was fun, but it was fools gold. We've got a rotation with just 2 legit MLB-caliber starters and a lineup that routinely has more spots occupied by AAA dreck than MLB regulars. A spare tire should ideally only be on you car long enough to get to a tire shop. You shouldn't be driving around with 2 regular tires and 2 donuts for several months. Hummel starts several games a week and is arguably the worst-hitting OF to ever don an Astros jersey. He and Chas have made a combined 170 plate appearances and produced 7 RBI, accounting for -1.5 WAR. Neither should be anywhere close to an MLB roster in the Year of Our Lord 2025, much less taking 7-8 ABs a night on a team with its sights on the playoffs. There's not really any feasible scenario where this team is fixable via trade in the next few days. In some alternate fantasy world where Jake and Paredes never get hurt, Yordan comes back mid-Summer and is starting to heat up, and Pena's return is imminent, sure, go out and grab an OF and an SP and try to make a run. That ain't reality. We have probably 5 or 6 spots on the 25-man roster spots that need to be replaced, not 1 or 2.
  24. Yep, as much as we did to win, the Snakes definitely helped themselves lose. NOBLETIGER in the 9th last night taking the cake. They had numerous AB's with bases juiced this series and only scored 1 run total in those situations.
