  1. I definitely enjoy these 2 fangraphs projections: Christian Walker: 31 HR, 97 RBI, 3.3 WAR Isaac Paredes: 25 HR, 84 RBI, 3.9 WAR Hell, that'd be like 2.5 seasons worth of 1B production for us lately.
  2. I agree. Plus, Chevron has officially moved its HQ from San Ramon to Houston. I imagine the 2000+ California-based employees will largely get wiped out. They're stretching this out through the end of 2026 and will start offering buyout packages this Spring, so it's not a panic move b/c they're in big trouble or something, IMO.
  3. Nice to open the door this morning to let the dogs outside and not have it already feel like 80 and muggy. It was basically late May in Houston this past week.
  4. One of my least favorite annual traditions, I'm sitting in my office hungover, just staring at the clock until I go drive my truck downtown to pick up our shit from the NAPE booth and lug it back to our building. 363 days until next time. Oh well, it beats actually having to go work a shift at GRB.
  5. Saw $2.88/lb Tuesday and Wednesday this week. They charge much higher prices on the weekends, but prices are already dropping fast.
  6. 3 identically mediocre teams atop the AL West.
  7. Hah, not me. Boss was asking if anyone wanted to go a landman happy hour thing last night. I emphatically declined. I've got 2 separate parties this evening that will keep me busy from like six to midnight, and then my firm's party tomorrow night that typically runs pretty late. I'm going to be barely running on fumes by the time I lurch my way out of an Uber towards my front door tomorrow night. I might not survive to see the weekend if I started NAPE week on Tuesday.
  8. If you lose money investing in bullshit peddled by an online "Alpha Male" influencer, you deserve absolutely zero sympathy.
  9. Hah. This dude just pled guilty to running a Ponzi Scheme. He's a giant douche from Utah that called himself "The Bull."
  10. Do your important work, get some exercise, and go to bed at a decent time tonight and tomorrow. NAPE approaches on Wednesday.
  11. I hear that. I drank a total of 3 times this month, the last time being 2 Saturdays ago. Thought about maybe having a couple Mexican beers with the fajitas we were having for dinner tonight. Even bought a sixer on the way home from work, but just never got around to opening one. I've got the rest of the weekend to imbibe, so didn't feel like cheating again with just a few hours of January remaining. Besides, going to bed after having 3 or 4 beers tonight would likely just make me wake up at some point around 3 am and take forever to fall back asleep. Tomorrow is a different story though.
  12. Netflix's 2025 teaser:
  13. Oh yeah, also gonna hang up my Euro mount that I just got back from the buck I shot back in November. Will be the first mount killed by a current member of the lease to hang in the cabin.
  14. Gorgeous weather on tap this weekend, so I'm gonna run up to my lease tomorrow to get out of the city and enjoy some time in the great outdoors. Need to check on everything at the camphouse after the big freeze and then do some random off-season chores like turning off feeders and shit. Also gonna go drive around to some of the less seldom visited parts of the property and see if I can scout any potential spots for a new stand. End the day with some beers by the fire after a 95% Dry January.
  15. Didn't have time this Fall to get around to Veilguard, but it is already going for fire sale pricing. Gamestop just dropped the price to $25, so I think I'm gonna go ahead and grab it for next time I need a game to sink some time. Apparently it undersold expectations by close to 2 million. Bioware is reportedly slashing their headcount down to just a core team working on Mass Effect 5. If it's not a big hit, the studio probably goes tits up. Such a shame.
  16. Highs in the 70's starting tomorrow. Supposed to hit high 70's Tuesday-Thursday before finally cooling back down to mid-60's next weekend.
  17. Rain tomorrow then looks like a damn near perfect weekend ahead. Usually we get the opposite.
  18. Started the month at 211 after holiday binge, and currently at 204, which is kinda weird to me that that's a number I'm fine with, but so much more of it is muscle than it used to be. At my height and build, before I started working out a few years ago, if I was anywhere close to 200 lbs, that meant I was getting pretty damn fat. Now despite being "big," I'm getting close to dropping from a 34 to a 33 waist. Still would like to shed a few more body fat % and eventually get down to around 195 or so, but I really don't have any ambition to try and get back into the 180's. All that said, after working a ton this month, both at my job and in the gym, and barely drinking at all since New Years, here's going to be me on Saturday:
  19. Gonna be a good year. Of course anything would be good compared to last year's crawfish season. Some of the markets down on the coast are already selling live crawfish. Boyd's in Texas City is currently at $4.88/lb. At this rate I'm thinking an early March crawfish boil might be in the cards. Need to text my guy soon and find out when he's planning to start making his Saturday morning runs over to Louisiana to load up his big refrigerated truck.
  20. Looks like we're covering $5.5M of the $14M owed to Pressly this season, so that frees up just $8.5M.
  21. Final week of January boys. Time to finish strong.
  22. Been really nice the past 2 days post freeze, but looks like Winter Monsoon Season starts late tomorrow night. Steady rain in the forecast through next Friday.
  23. In my experience, while folks in O&G tend to be pretty conservative, there seems to be a good amount that are more "Normie Republican" and not necessarily big fans of Trump. A lot depends on what specific O&G job you have, where you live, where you went to school...etc. A land broker from Louisiana or a rig-hand in the Permian is way more likely to be MAGA than a Houston finance guy that went to UT undergrad or a title attorney that went to law school at UH. I know plenty of people on the professional side of the industry that are centrist Dems or even borderline leftists.
